He didn’t procure any such illegal image though. He was sent them and he told the sender not to send anything illegal. So there is no evidence to imply he has any such interests. But then these posts exist making such accusations. Perhaps all the confused reporting (and then commenting) on the matter has misled you.

As a victim of child sexual abuse I refuse to have anything to do with the BBC and haven’t had a tv license for years. How many child abusers can they cover up for and still carry on like nothing happened?

I'm very sorry to hear you went through that, however what you have to remember is scumbags like Edwards probably make up less than 1% of the BBC's total payroll. We just hear the most about them so it feels like it's worse than it is. Obviously, it's good that Edwards has now been exposed and removed, and anyone else remotely like him should also be weeded out from the corporation, but that doesn't mean that the entire BBC, which is so vast and branches off into multiple media sectors, each with their own independent management and internalised power structures, is bad. The vast majority of people who work there and run it are perfectly decent and good people. Incidentally, this problem is not exclusive to the BBC either. It's your choice if you don't want to pay your TV licence (though you're shooting yourself in the foot as you severely limit what kind of TV on any channel you can legally watch), but as someone who regards the BBC as the finest broadcaster in the country, I am proud to do so

Perhaps because their crime / illness doesnt form the totality of that person. Good people can end up doing terrible things. I had a teacher that committed suicide whilst under police investigation for similar offences to Huws. Whilst I was horrified that he could have potentially done this , it didnt change the fact that there was a good side to him and i certainly was sad about his death.

Where is the petition for Edwards to be required to pay back his last year's wages of £475,000 paid by us, by me who pays the licence fee. I demand that the BBC gets back every penny of the £475,000 of our money PLUS the £40,000 he was paid out of our money as a bonus AFTER Edwards had been arrested. Does the BBC expect us all to pay again next month/nest year if this is how our money is spent?

BBC has no legal claim to repayment of salary - it is paid for services rendered at the rate agreed with the worker. Our taxes pay paid for lots of jobs - Lucy Letby's, Harold Shipman's etc. that's just the way it is and doesn't give us a say in individual employment terms. The appropriate punishment here is jail time not non-existent claims relating to his salary which have no legal foundation

He never had a fall from grace. He never had it to begin with. His immorality was hidden. He was thinking about it to start with, and then he practised it while leading a double life. His family and duty as a broadcaster and involvement in history came second to his desires. Then worse still blamed his mental health on his way of life. His family must be devastated, as he had children himself. The mind boggles at how danerous this man was....and still is. He will always be number one where his desires are concerned.

@@bobbypukes605 He was accused on three counts. The man who sent him the images was accused on NINE counts and got a suspended 12-month sentence. I doubt very much that jail-time was ever in prospect in this instance. And, despite the obvious fact that people want to paint him as fundamentally evil, he is in most respects a sincerely religious man of some honesty, so there's no reason to believe that he didn't plead guilty of his own accord.

The 25 year old's lawyer might say he expressed remorse and blamed his Immaturity. You can't say Edwards is behaving remorsefully or that he can blame being immature.

I've not seen any, and I'm sure the police would have found far more images, going back far longer, when they seized and searched his electronic devices, which is standard practice in cases like these. As for the salary - he doesn't get paid in "licence fee" - the BBC are looking into reclaiming what he was paid after his arrest. Before then, the BBC kept him on the payroll just like I'd expect any fair employer to do. The assumption of innocence until proven guilty, or until an admission of guilt, is a fundamental principle of British law.

Its interesting that he certainly comes across as having very strong narcissistic traits if not full blown NPD. (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) which I have recently been studying. And part of the personality construct is to self sabotage, of course they wear a public Mask of grandiosity. They are extremely Entitled individuals who have often been over-valued by those close around him. They are often made to feel 'special' and to an extent live in a fantasy world. They also often have 'secret lives' around their sexuality. Huw certainly seems to fit this bill.

Nearer £500K. And he got a £40K pay rise while suspended. But the final insult is that his BBC pension will be about £320K a year. While the median earnings in the UK is about a tenth of that.

I am welsh and was always so proud of hugh edwards , when the news broke i was in complete shock and heartbroken , the shame i felt due to being welsh , i always thought of him as posh welsh and loved listening to him reading the news . I am now outraged at him , what a disgusting man he is , im glad they caught him .hope he has a sentence fitting the terrible , teribble crimes he has comitted , but no sentence will counteract the vivtims ruined lives . Dreadful dreadful news.

Don't forget having one arm stretched out on the desk. That took years to get right. On second thoughts, I can't be bothered with sarcasm because of course you are right, paying anyone that sort of money to present programmes is disgusting but it won't change until enough people stop paying the licence fee. Half a million have done so in the past year, and it has got the BBC worried. We all have the power to do the same.

Not much of a collector, it appears. The police would have seized and forensically searched all his computers and phones, to find 7 Category A ("worst possible legal category") images, and 12 in Category B... out of a total of 377 images. He told the person who sent him the illegal images not to send him any more, and no more such images were received. As this exchange happened on WhatsApp, there'd be an audit trail to confirm this, and if it were untrue it would have been easy for prosecutors to prove it. This doesn't excuse his crime, but it's a fuller, fairer description of what happened, which should put things into perspective.

I also pointed out that Edwards instructed the sender not to send him any more illegal images. 7 such images out of 377 might indicate "relatively" how much space pædophilia occupies in his sexuality. It might actually tell us more about the sender of the images than about Huw Edwards himself. Anyway, why CAN'T what he did be relativised like any other crime? Are we not allowed to say that (e.g.) Peter Sutcliffe was a more prolific killer than Ruth Ellis, or even that he was a _worse_ killer than she was? I I can't see why we shouldn't be allowed to make comparisons between criminals of any type.

It doesn't say if all the other images were indecent images of children. But 41 images was enough to get a confession. ⚖

Thousands of decent people loved Savile. I didn't particularly like him as he seemed fake but didn't take much notice of him. I don't judge those who genuinely thought him ok. Many people pull the wool over your eyes. However the BBC new of his antics. Despicable! To bring the Queen into it is nasty and cynical. Do you think he'd have that gong from the Queen if she'd known this? Of course not. Her son is a difficult one. Can we just get rid of the BBC now? Imagine if this was a private company with this much history of having offenders in its staff - they'd lose public faith and ultimately go under. But that wont happen "because BBC". Disgusting.

I don’t think she would be bothered by it at all, in fact she probably knew. She has two sons who are alleged pedos-Andrew and his good friend Epstein, and Charles who was best friends with Jimmy Saville, so much so he allowed him to mediate his marriage with Diana! He could also drop in to the palace anytime and I can’t understand why that was allowed to happen or even be friends. Anyone around the royal family would have a deep background check and there was tons of stuff on Saville, I believe 7 police investigations into him (after a report from a victim) were closed down after chief constables intervened on his behalf. Again why, I don’t know, I’m guessing he had dirt on them being the procurer that he was. But the secret service & royal protection officers must’ve known about some of his vile acts and rumours, so he wouldn’t be allowed in, unless someone senior in the family overruled them..? Anyway back to the queen-it makes you wonder if the story about her & Phillip taking 10 children, they hand picked from a Canadian native children’s home, out for a picnic and then they were never seen again is true. Abusers come in all shapes and sizes and genders, and there is definitely a dark side to that family…

Yes this reporter said that they were people protesting the BBC and was saying quite extreme stuff, so the BBC doesn’t have any previous with coving up PDF files. This type of reporting is the reason why people does not trust the BBC or the radio times.

It's one of the most impartial interviews I've ever heard on such horror of behaviour. A good journalist has to be as impartial as possible and NOT get partial. Which she did admirably, without any inference of being biased either way. I thought it a very balanced interview and I was UNinfluenced by anything she said. It was such a good report! You must have listened to some other gross interview!?

Like I said in my previous comment, my family and I are absolutely heartbroken over Huw Edwards, we absolutely adored him, he was our favourite news presenter, but saying that, I don't hate Huw Edwards, I hate what he did, and what he has become, it's absolutely disgusts me, and sickens me, I think it's more to do with the fact, we were all extremely fond of him, now we feel let down buy his betrayal of us as the viewers, just so sad, I personally don't wish bad on him, I just think he should go to prison and serve his time, and think about what he's done to his own life and career. 😮😢😢

Is she that dumb ? There is a discipline progress in any work environment. Being arrested is not a sacking offence. If there was any issues before hand they would have had to put him on a disciplinary process and warned him of his future conduct . If they didnt do that then Huw has every right to carry on . And if they Suspend him to investigate he has every right to his wage until he is sacked if they find against him .Just because he has a large wage and works for the BBC doesn't mean he has different employment rights .The BBC has done nothing wrong.

If you're in a Watsap group where someone sends you pictures or videos that are illegal, that you didn't ask for or want, the least you do is leave that group. You also, if you have a moral compass and want to protect yourself, report it to the Police. I'm sure the Police have gone through all those messages and he wasn't squeaky clean. Pleading guilty stops any other evidence coming out in Court.

I don’t think the police would have acted unless the evidence was strong and clear enough to proceed with an actual arrest. A one off ‘photo’ or two, quickly deleted and leaving the chat or group.. I doubt would result in an arrest as that shows an action which indicates disapproval and wanting nothing to do with it. I could be wrong, but the police have so much stuff to deal with that they’ll only act if they are quite sure they have a criminal case.

If the BBC were made aware of charges against Edwards, it is possible this could have extended to abuse within the organisation. The BBC should have acted to protect its employees as well.
