"Ceasefire" is Putinese for "pausefire." The only three things that should be issues of a negotiation: 1. Does Russia leave Ukraine in one week or two weeks. 2. How many billions does Russia pay to Ukraine in reparations. 3. Do Russia's war criminals report to the ICC in one week or two weeks.

Excellent interview. I watch many “man/woman on the street” bloggers. On the outskirts of larger cities, where infrastructure is falling apart - snow not being plowed, trees falling down, city plumbing and sewage deteriorating and pensions so low, that pensioners are going hungry. I would have loved to hear Giles take on if he can analyze what repercussions such neglect will affect any kind of civil uprising. Probably not but surely the structure of a country that is being whittled away at the edges might eventually implode. Will desperate civilians risk an uprising? Will they take a I;ve got nothing to lose attitude? It happened in Romania in 1989. A 30-year regime of tyranny suddenly ended one day and the country’s leader and his wife were arrested, tried and a week later executed. Can this happen in Russia?
@judithhopes1513 сағат бұрын
Sadly russians have had their brains scrambled and their will sapped for way over 40 yrs,, more likely someone from a powerbase, ie the army will takeover, there will have to e a power base to organise from, and someone with access to records of addresses and work files. Someone or an organisation to seize ammunition, and food supplies. In years to come a * grand * opera * or ballet will be produced about these events. Most of those with brains, humanity, will have emigrated at the start of this horrendous chaos. A tiny sliver of light might be that a cadre of those n koreans forced into the russian army may be able to force a sliver of a wedge in Kim's stranglehold . If n koreans can see a dictator topple, their army may rebel.

after the war is over PUtin will focus on repairing his economy and trying to strengthen his political position by saying the war is a victory plus blaming Russian oligarchs and elites for the failings of the war, and trying to purge them, meanwhile the Elites and oligarchs with their own PMCs private armies recruiting from the hundrdds of thousands of angry Russian military veterans recently demobilized will focus on survival and purging Putin from power. all int he background of hyperinflation, a depressed Russian economy and high crime rates and social unrest. This can easilly turn into a civil war . Russia may claim it had won a historic victory but many Russians know including their elites that they feel they have lost the war. and now turn to purge Putin from power and put in place someone that they can control who is not Putin. and they have the private armies to do it.

In early November, an estimated 700-1,000 people remained in the city, and were living without basic utilities, while Russian forces stood under 3 kilometres from Kurakhove's center. Many crucial facilities were destroyed by heavy shelling, with only one food store operational. Russian encirclement efforts of the city continued, and according to the city's head of police, its success would leave it practically indefensible Lots of lithium there which is why Putin wants it.

How is the Russian economy booming when it is build on Putin emptying his piggybank? Plus the Russian interest rate is constantly being upped and the Rubles value is going down.
