Remember the Russian missile attack on maternity hospital in Mariupol? Published: 08 December 2023 therefore by the end of 2023 there were 334 documented attacks on 267 Ukrainian healthcare facilities, with 230 facilities being damaged and 37 destroyed. General hospitals, primary care clinics, emergency departments and children’s hospitals were most frequently targeted. The majority of attacks took place during the first three months and in eastern Ukrainian oblasts. Heavy weaponry was employed in almost all attacks.

It is tempting to give approval to that scenario, but it reinforces what we are working against. whether it is Russia invading Ukraine, China invading Taiwan or Russia to take Siberia. Might can never make right if we want a civil world. The UN, for all of its dysfunction, was founded to try and avoid countries invading each other for gains or resolution. I'm fairly certain that Ukraine do not qualify for entry into NATO until their current war is resolved. I daresay this rule was so states that find themselves under attack cannot just decide then that they want to join, and this may play out in non-NATO countries like Moldova and Georgia in the future. Unfortunately so much of the western aid to Ukraine has been delayed by political self-interest and disagreement within the supporting nations, and many Ukrainians have perished as a result, and so much of their ability to fight Russia has already been lost. The west may be losing the opportunity to 'turn this around' if there are any further delays...

I mean, I recall several people, myself inc., who said we should do a no fly zone from day 1, give Ukraine planes, tanks, everything, as soon as. 'Red lines' mean next to nothing. Tyrants lie. They manipulate. Putin is just playing from the book of the tyrannical dictator: oppress your people, frighten your neighbours - lest they get wise to your weakness and overthrow you. Unfortunately (esp. for conflicts where it's good v evil), the US has always been isolationist (I'm Australian fyi). Just think WWII, took 'em literally being bombed themselves to get their own troops involved, the people there are quite individualistic and thus can be self-interested, so it's America First once again for a good number of people. This is why I sometimes wish Britain still ruled the world, whilst imperialist defo has its downsides, it also means the populace cares more about international affairs.

Ukraine should aspire to not only join NATO but to lead NATO because Ukraine knows what it is like to: be helpless, to be betrayed, to have its hands tied in a brutal battle. Long live Ukraine.
@la7dfa

Well it is quite far from Ukraine to NATO in the way we can do combined warfare and air superiority. But NATO should learn every bit they can from the Ukrainian experiences. And long term Ukraine will be an excellent ally aligned with the democratic countries of Europe and North America. Protecting freedom and democracy will never be free, and the despots needs to be controlled and kept from agressive expansions and hybrid wars.

George Barros is such an amazing guest and a wealth of knowledge about every aspect of this conflict. @@DistractedDaisy It's not, many speakers struggle with that and it's something most of us do without even knowing about it and someone needs to tell you about it so you can improve your public speaking abilities. You should have seen the comments on one female speaker last week (maybe on DW) who got torn apart in the comments because her "Um" probably was so distracting that many people could't focus on her message, which was good, but overpowered by poor public speaking skills. If no one gives you constructive criticism, how can you improve?

If Biden won't step down and leave the campaign to a more capable candidate I think Trump is destined to win the election in November. All signs point to Trump being sympathetic to the Russians in general but I fail to see how targeting a children's hospital is persuasive to the leadership of other countries.
