In the majority of "conflicts" and "wars" over the last 200 years, it has always been the case that a country that was invaded fought back against the invader on the territory of the invader - except for the first 2 years of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I am glad to see that changing to the historical "norm"...

Ukraine asked for weapons and the ability to use them. Zelensky has not called for foreign troops on the front lines. It suits the US to have Ukraine attrit russia's military and exhaust their stockpiles whilst keeping the war on Ukrainian territory. NATO allies are all dependant on the US for supplies, parts, munitions or services so cannot act independently in supporting Ukraine. The US is as much a part of the problem as russia. The US is happy to protect russian skies whilst russia commits war crime after war crime in Ukraine. The war would already be over had the west been willing and able to provide the supplies and freedom to use them to Ukraine.

I heard some laughing at the failed Russian missile test. I had to remind them that the Russians have lots of types we know do work. These people actually said "they've been neglected and don't work." What fools. Ukraine hit ammo dumps very accurately and at far greater range than our missiles go. So just help them ramp up production of their own... unless there is something 'some' of our missiles can do that theirs can't... such as carry none conventional weapons 😮 If we do allow it and Ukraine launches 1 a day 2 a week, then Russia is likely not going to go that final step as 1 none conventional (nuke) type couldn't annihilate Russian capability. But if a lot are launched at once or that a conventional one took out early warning systems, then Russia would be left with no choice but to assume the worst and act accordingly. I'm fed up with the silly tones of voice. People talking as though they are enlightening kids, or... well you get the idea. Where are the true diplomats. Where is Churchill. Yes, Ukraine really teaching Russia a lesson - latest lesson: ‘How to retreat 5 KMs a day and incur massive losses’. Russia doesn’t need breathing space. They were suckered before by insincere negotiations Minsk 1 and 2. They won’t be ceasing fire for Minsk 3 for sure - not until Zelensky signs on the dotted line. European defense? Russia was never a threat to Europe. Just propaganda to support US interests and NATO existence. All that Putin wanted wAs for Ukraine to be a neutral country. Don’t forget it was the US that staged a CIA coup of the 2014 democratic Ukraine government. This is not a war about democracy. It’s a war about America weakening Russia - which prior to this war was absolutely no threat whatsoever.

What people have forgotten is that it is the Ukraine, in the form of the Kievan Rus, existed long before "Russia" or even the Grand Duchy of Moscow. As political entities, Russia and the Grand Duchy, as well as a few other Russian Polities, owe their very existence to the Kievan Rus and the family that ruled it, the Rurik Dynasty. It was only in the late 13th and 14th Centuries, once the Mongols went back to eastern Asia, did Moscow and its related vassals gain the upper hand, once the power of the Kievan Rus was "farmed out" through dynastic marriages, family infighting and the like. Eventually, the Grand Duchy of Moscow became the most important and powerful of the polities and once that happened, then history saw them become the dominant force. But, as far as all the revisionist history and rhetoric coming from Moscow (and elsewhere) about "Mother Russia" and the Ukraine being a part of it, it's nothing more than deluded nonsense. In essence, "Mother Russia" owes its very existence to the Ukraine/Kievan Rus. What's even more ironic is that the Rus themselves, are not even Slavs. The original Rus were an admix of Swedes and Finns that lived and traded in the area long before even the Kievan Rus became a political entity in its own right. It was only once these people were asked by the Slavic tribal unions in the area to take over running the area because of the disunity of these tribal unions, did the Kievan Rus finally began to take shape. Over 4 centuries before Moscow itself even existed! Kiev itself existed at the time and was a strong polity in its own right, but was taken over by the Rus around 879-882AD, when Oleg the Wise united the Slavic lands and took the city, making it his power base, along with Novgorod. In any case, regardless of any of that, what we have in Putin is a former KGB operative who thinks he has a good handle on "history" and wants to, in his mind, reconstitute the old Russian Empire or some modern version of it. Not a new Soviet Union, but a modern empire based on some sort of dynastic rule, with him or his successors being in charge. An uber Slavic Union, if you will. That includes the Baltic States, Poland, the Ukraine and anyone else he cares to think should be a part of it. This needs to be nipped in the bud, now, but should've been the moment he invaded the Ukraine.

I mean all of that is true. This was always Russia's war to lose. The fact that has even gone on this long and aren't sure who is gonna win is more a story of Russian weakness rather than of Ukrainian strength. This war will cause lots of shifts in defense strategy and geo-political strategy. What does a weak russia mean? In the balance is the value of mass, the rapid adoption of automated forms of warfare - a likely rebalance of assetts and energy away from the west and to the east - presuming russia loses. If russia loses this war , the federation will fall apart. It's kind of a big deal we appreciate the depths of russian failings. I think the accumulated faults that we can all see plain as day are enough to be fatal - but empires can take a while to die.
