Strikes on Russian oil refineries have a significant impact on Russia’s ability to conduct warfare. Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, Commander of U.S. Forces Europe in 2014-17, stated this during the 16th annual Kyiv Security Forum. “Of course, attacks on oil refineries have a significant impact. Russia is less able to pay for this war, and it also deprives it of the necessary fuel to continue hostilities. I would recommend ignoring the calls for an end to such attacks.”
The Lieutenant General emphasized that sanctions against Russia need to be strengthened. He also added that 2024 will be the year of industrial competition. “Ukraine and the West should win this competition. I am talking about of course building up ammunition supplies, but also moving forward maintenance capabilities so that the Ukrainian soldiers can fix forward equipment that is broken or damaged on site, as well as increasing their ammunition stocks.”
According to Hodges, Ukraine should put pressure on Russian logistics, particularly in Crimea, to make the peninsula unusable for Russian troops. “I would not expect a dramatic drop in Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. The job of (new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) Syrskyi will be to stabilize the situation on the front line, but industrial competition will play a role here, while the Ukrainian army needs new units to ensure rotation”.
----------
Ben Hodges is a retired United States Army officer, who became commander of United States Army Europe in November 2014, and held that position for three years until retiring from the United States Army in January 2018. He was most recently a Senior Advisor to Human Rights First, until summer 2023, and serves as NATO Senior Mentor for Logistics. Until recently was the Pershing Chair in Strategic Studies, at the Centre for European Policy Analysis, specialising in NATO, the Transatlantic relationship and international security.

I’m a little person. I’m moderately educated. I’m old. I have lived all over the world. I have seen the Cuban missile crisis, the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the folding of the Soviet Union and my brain is screaming “Stop taking this conflict lightly!” All elements are in place for the perfect storm. Do people remember what democracy is and how much it cost? Huge, huge thanks for this positive interview 👍 🇺🇦🇮🇪🇺🇦

How can we show strength? This whole response is born out of weakness and fear. Russia was never gonna invade Europe and no one even knew that Ukraine existed until the fearmongering started so this isn't about compassion. If fear controls you, you are weak. How will you show strength? These are the people that support prolonging the war and here are their fruits. Bon appetit!

The man talks the BS social engineering crap. Are you looking at the pro Ukr war maps ever few days ...... are you reading from other sources. Ukraine has only started these asymmetric operations because they are losing right down the front line. Russia is moving forward day by day. I don't have a dog in the game, I couldn't give a F .... but id=f you think Ukr is winning or has a chance ... do some reading ...... you are sadly mistaken. Russia is turning Ukr into a smoldering ashtray. UKr believed what the West told it and it is now paying the price ...... the smart ones packed up and left. The country is finished.

Concur. I'll reluctantly vote for Trump, but I hope he'll be smarter than his supporters are and make opening the American energy sector a primary objective. If Pedophi|e Joey had done so early on, Putin would have been beggared & destabilized last year. Furthermore, Pedophi|e Joey could actually, I dunno, *LEAD* by rallying conservatives to support Ukraine & facing down the handful of Froot Loops like MTG who are believing Kremlin claims. It's pretty hard to pretend Russia should be anything but an international pariah once one becomes even moderately familiar with the vast assortment of crimes against humanity being conducted in the ethnic cleansing of Ukraine. EDIT - I'm generally shadow banned by YewTub

The democrats voted with the Republicans to replace the speaker. Democrats knew they wanted to replace with hardliner against funding. McCarthy would have pushed it through. The next country is France with 10,9%, then Russia with 10,5%, China with 5.8%, Germany with 5,6%, Italy 4,3%, UK 3,7%, Italy 2,7%.. How is the EU supposed to help Ukraine with military needs??? The EU is helping with taking in millions of Ukrainien women, children, elders giving them shelter, work and money to live and send home. Just like the arab countries live off selling their oil, the US lives off selling their military to the world. So it is a disgrace that Trump is keeping the US from supplying Ukraine with munition etc.

General Hodges' willingness to participate in key organizations, as well as accept interviews readily accessible to the public is much appreciated. Regarding the Suwalki gap, why there is so much fretting over a ~60 mile section of border between Poland and Lithuania? That it is the shortest path between Belarus and Kaliningrad could pose as much a liability for Russia as an asset. NATO has 'boatloads' of defensive assets nearby, likely making it the WORST place for Russia to attack. If they did, NATO would declare 'open season' to invade Kaliningrad, sink all ships, and block use of the Baltic sea. Russia then must deal with a long, very narrow 'finger' of forces surrounded on 3 sides by NATO. That sounds like a nightmare for Russia.

Like so many other initiatives: it took Joe Biden to complete the job. Any thinking person knew it would not be accomplished without tragedy. The sooner we withdrew, the sooner the killing of americans would end. And we were not defeated. Biden not only withdrew our forces, he put the pentagon in the position to rapidly repurpose to a focus on defending Ukraine. Biden brought Europe back together and strengthened the resolve to destroy the Russian military.
