Many thanks for the very informative and useful series of shorts on the Lister, they will come in extremely useful when I restore a hopperless type I have just acquired.

Brilliant! and what a result eh? great looks and runs like a swiss watch. 15 degrees BTDC certainly seems to be a win win setting. Might try mine at that setting one of the days. Give yourself a Pat on the back for a job well done. She looks fab. Definitely a video worth waiting for..lol

Hi , Phil , My restoration of the same engine is going so well and i am a very lucky man , I purchased one from a friend for £40 totally complete nothing missing but it looked awful, upon stripping it down everything was mechanically perfect and well covered in oil and free , perfect bore perfect piston and rings and it came with the original starting handle , Just a strip of the rust and a nice coat of mid brunswick green and hopefully mine will look as good as yours , need to make a nice trolley and now have some nice cast iron wheels , look forward to my first start , Well done on your vids they have helped me loads , Alan

Thanks for the kind words Alan, good luck with your project - I hope we will see a video of the engine when it's finished. Phill.

Brilliant job Phii, you have done a good job in the restoration of that early Lister. I havnt seen many hopper cooled Listers like that, handy for rallys as you dont have to set up a tank for cooling. It runs really well and its a credit to your skills. Great vid too, cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian! There are quite a few hopper cooled Lister Juniors on the rally circuit in the UK, but many of them are older restoration now which is why I wanted to give this one the works, make it stand out a bit.

It does indeed, why do you ask? I think a couple of videos back I covered the magneto rebuild, I stripped and rebuilt this magneto myself and that included fitting a new condensor, the new ones are a little different but they mount under the black cover. Phill.

Fantastic informative videos that are teaching me a lot about my recently inherited A28S industrial spec, one day I may well follow them to do a compete rebuild but for now I'm hoping you'll be able to assist me with an issue I'm having currently with the Lucas mag, the sprocket is seized on the tapered shaft, you mention in your video being careful and not forcing but can you please share how I might free the sprocket correctly to make it fully serviceable once again? Cheers
@steamwally8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! The sprockets can usually be removed by inserting a small pry bar (read, large screw driver...) behind it and gently tapping the sprocket with a copper hammer. The shock will usually release such items from a taper. It's best to leave the nut on, just releasing it a turn or so first. Your right to be cautious, the bearings are not all that strong - another and possibly safer method requires a large vice, or something you can pass the mag through. I have removed the sprockets with two strips of angle steel beneath the sprocket, hanging the mag in the gap between the jaws of a woodworking vice. Just bringing the nut flush with the end of the sprindle, a copper hammer or soft drift can be used to release the spindle from sprocket withing any loading on the bearings. The wider the angle steel, the better as you are less likely to deform the sprocket. Best of luck, Phill.

Ah I see, yes in the likes of the WICO mags the condenser is on the points stator. These ones have a sort of right angle bracket which the condenser was fixed to by a nut on the end of the barrel. Phill.
