Ok, so not just picking my favourite artists, qoing with my top 10 TLM Listographies based on" 1. Quality of show/review from TLM 2. Positive impact of the discography on me 3. The learning experience with a new artist for me 4. Most fun/memorable shows/ listographies 10. Thin Lizzy - Sorry Joe, don't agree with you on this one. I really enjoyed getting to know a band i mostly ignored over the years, a mistake on my part. Wonderful band. Albums Bad Reputation, Johnny the Fox, Fighting , Jailbreak still high on rotation for me. 9. The Jam- One of my favourite bands but kudos to the TLM lads for a fairly respectful and professional job on a band they didn't know well.( and they were the Patreon poll winner so they didn't have a choice :) ) 8. David Bowie- A mammoth task . A full Bowie discography can be a risk for a channel such as this but the guys handled it brilliantly. 7. The Black Crowes - One of the most entertaining reviews from the boys. And like Thin Lizzy, I got a kick out of getting to know a band i mostly , previously ignored. Had alot of fun going through their discography. Great band, great sound. 6. Mott the Hoople - This was one of Jason's greatest hours. His love for this band came through. Had a great time getting to know their music even more and picked up a couple of cool Ian Hunter recommendations from Jason in the comments. 5. Stevie Wonder- A key moment i believe in the TLM's progression. A universally lauded black artist given the TLM treatment. Shout out to Joe for being the inspiration, but great work by Jason and Kramzer who out of their comfort zones provided excellent support. Oh and a beautiful discography. A reminder of how great Stevie really was. 4. Peter Gabriel - Excellent review of his work. One of my earlier TLM experiences ( during the "Listography " era). Top class body of work from Gabriel when looked at in totality. 3. Supergrass - Really enjoyed this surprise (for me..wasn't expecting them to be a fave of the channel somehow) love-fest from all TLMsters. The band are a favourite of mine so that helped. 2. Black Sabbath - Always respected Sabbath but wasn't deeply familiar with all their work. The lads schooled me on their greatness. Great show. 1. Steely Dan- Another Joe labour of love but an excellent review and the discography of this band is of course immaculate. My number 1 TLM hour ( and a bit) . This week anyway.

This channel has meant a lot to me over the last two years, helping me get through a rough patch in my life, as well as introducing me to a lot of great music I have missed. I have watched most episodes, many even about artists I thought I didn't like, or still don't like. But I have learned so much more than I knew before. The fun weeks are the weeks where the boys disagree about the rankings, I like the strong opinions, and since you three are lifelong friends, then you know it won't affect your friendship. Thank you for your tremendous work, it really makes a difference. Here are ten of my favorite episodes, either because I really loved the band, I learned a lot that I didn't know, or it was an enjoyable to watch the back and forth. 10. Eagles- Kram is right about how they are often overrated, but Jason quietly knows their strengths also. 9. Abba- Joe's joy in this episode is so infectious!! He's right about a lot of it! 8. Fleetwood Mac- Had no idea about the quality of their pre-Buckingham Nicks music, was really impressed after digging into this! A great find for me! 7. Byrds- Thanks Joe! Knew almost nothing except three songs by them. Honestly came away loving most of it! Perhaps my favorite discovery from watching the channel. 6. Billy Joel- The back and forth between Kram and Joe on their opinion of his music made for some contagious watching! 5. U2- I grew up on this music, so I really enjoyed the discussion. Seeing Jason come around on The Unforgettable Fire was cool. 4. Steely Dan- I love the Dan, so I was pumped for this week! 3. Bruce Springsteen- An early favorite of the trio. A great, long discussion of a music icon! 2. Squeeze- Honestly, this video seems a little rushed (I've watched it a few times) but the fact that you gave my favorite band a week of their own is something I'm forever grateful for. 1. Bob Dylan- I like Dylan, I don't love him, but the fact that Kram and Jason could break down so many albums so thoroughly and explain why they mean so much to them was a glorious learning experience for me.

My jaw dropped when Joe picked Tom Waits as his worst artist covered on TLM. My jaw is now aching from grinning ear to ear after watching Joe pick Kate Bush as his favourite artist covered 👏😁💃 I assume there may be a few artists who would be above her on his favourites list, but this, as I see it, wasn't about that. It was the "discovery" of Kate Bush that put it top of his pile? We all know about Zep, The Beatles, Radiohead blah blah blah (and Kate Bush in my case) but it's that discovery of something new, through your channel, that excites. Keep up the good work 👍

Now to the positive side (and regardless of what you think of me, it is the majority of the videos), the top videos I loved watching the most, and it is not necessarily that those are my best loved artists, those are really the videos I loved to watch the most: 5. Dwight Yoakam - that was a brilliant choice of artist for the channel that is not a country lovers channel but for most people "I do not like country BUT....". The whole discussion around the topic of that we all find something in country music nevertheless (and rock music would not exist without it to start with). 4. Fleetwood Mac - this was great for really giving the non-Nicks/Buckingham periods of the band their chance and love, especially the enthusiasm of the Listographers for those earlier phases was a highlight for the channel. 3. Gene Clark - covering those "minor" artists that hardly ever appear in those top 10 lists but are really worth listening to at times is more interesting than just another Pink Floyd video. 2. Sonic Youth - Joe was not the only one suffering here, because I have albums as low as 0,5 stars from that band and up to 4,5, so there is a lot of bandwidth and a lot of aspects to cover - and the video did that. 1. David Bowie - 2,5 hours and not a dull moment. There is a different Bowie for all of us and never has that been better represented than by the three hosts on this video. Of course the quality and variety of the artist helps, but it was also that everybody's heart and soul was fully into it from beginning to end.

The Boys also deserve credit for doing COMPLETE discographies. A lot of channels will just do "top 10" Bowie albums, etc. Kind of a let down when that happens. "Worst" comments are usually the most entertaining . .
@roxannewalsh2 жыл бұрын
@@NaughtyVampireGod Another important aspect I forgot to mention is "own preparation and ranking" which is an extra fun. I know a lot of discographies beforehand but often just have a "gut feeling" for many of the albums if they are not the top ones. Doing some consequential ranking and rating has in some cases lead to some personal surprises, either proving that I value an artist much more than I thought I did or - the opposite case, that I got rid of an artist I thought I needed when in truth I always wanted to eliminate the discs but never dared.
@NaughtyVampireGod2 жыл бұрын
@@roxannewalsh Excellent commentary! Recent example: I don't really like Siouxsie and the Banshees as much as I thought I did. The Blondie discography I could do in my sleep - but re-listened to everything anyway. The Shins discography was the most consist: 5 albums - each 4 or 4.5 stars.
@roxannewalsh2 жыл бұрын
@@NaughtyVampireGod This will be interesting tomorrow...Siouxsie for me were always a band that never made it to the top tiers (bit like Thin Lizzy) but I always liked them. This has not changed, but I was surprised how many of their albums made it into the 4 star or above territory.

Great picks by everyone . I saw Martin Barre and his band last night , and he was nothing short of sensational . The man is a ferocious guitar player ( and his acoustic playing is beautiful ) He tore through the Jethro Tull back catalogue with reckless abandon . It was interesting to hear him cover Ian Anderson’s flute parts with his electric guitar . He brought out Tull’s original drummer , Clive Bunker , for the second set , which was the entire Aqualung album , and an encore with Teacher . If he plays anywhere near your hometowns , do yourself a favour and go see him . P.S. : Will we be seeing a week on Tull in the future ? Thanks !

I'm using Joe's approach and listing the rankings I enjoyed the most and not necessarily the ones involving my favorite bands. Dwight Yoakam was the best because I re-discovered an artist who I had always liked but only listened to occasionally. BIG win there. R.E.M. was great. A fave band of mine but a really broad catalog that meant a lot of different opinions. The Jam because I ended up listening to more than In the City and Weller's work with the Style Council (my preferred band of the two). Really good stuff. Eurythmics because, unlike Jason, I liked them more than I thought I would. Same for Madonna and Whitney Houston. Not music I'd normally listen to, and still mostly don't, but a newfound appreciation for what they do. And the Pretenders and the Cars because they are also strong catalogs that I hadn't really given much thought to outside of the hits and the album rock radio hits. And I discovered that the Pretenders later stuff is well worth the listen! Thx, as always.

Kate Bush David Bowie U2 (up to Achtung Baby) The Beatles. Abba Pink Floyd Rush Peter Gabriel Alice In Chains ELO Honourable mentions to Roxy Music, Blondie and Iron Maiden. . I love some Led Zeppelin songs but overall they don't quite connect with me. In no particular order, except for Kate Bush, she's always my number 1, has been since I was 16. Joe, welcome to the KB fan club. It's so good to see you get into her music like this .

The Listography episodes I enjoyed the most would be (in no particular order and I'm not talking about my opinions on the artist but my opinion on the episodes itself) 1. The Beach Boys - always fun when all three really enjoy an artist 2. Boston - one of the funniest episodes 3. AC/DC - watching Kram struggle to admit that he actually liked AC/DC was hilarious 4. Radiohead - Kram's utter love for Radiohead was joyous to watch. And Joe putting In Rainbows outside the Top 5 was both unexpected and totally expected. 5. Black Sabbath - this listography got me into the Sabbath catalogue so thanks for that 6. Rush - again, when all three enjoy the artists, it's great 7. Aerosmith - loved seeing how your guys opinion on the band went up by quite a lot. 8. Kate Bush - I don't really know her stuff besides Hounds of Love but watching Joe basically fall in love with her was heartwarming. 9. Eagles - Kramzer's hatred for the band and Joe and Jason both really liking the band made an interesting episode. I like the Eagles personally but I get why Kramzer doesn't like them. 10. Three Dog Night - I like Three Dog Night but watching Kramzer and Joe rip them apart while Jason watched on in slight sadness and accepted defeat was very entertaining)

I think every Bob Marley/ Wailers album from their formal debut in 1973 to their final album in 1980 can be reasonably rated at 4 stars minimum. From freedom fighters to investment bankers, everyone sings their songs to this day. Easily should’ve been included here.

The best thing about this channel is that you can use the lists you like best to revisit artists you like but haven't fully exhausted. For example I knew about 50% of Bowie's catalog and 50% of Rush. I like both bands but where to start with the best albums I missed? This channels allows me to separate the wheat from the chaff. For the next few weeks I will be pairing a Rush Album with a Bowie Album, this week The Man Who Sold The World paired with Fly by Night next week Scary Monsters paired with Grace Under Pressure. But I could just as easily be listening to Tonight paired with Test for Echo. That would be tragic.

Interesting couple of series - however, I would have found them more interesting if they were showing your top rated disappointments & positive surprises. The way it was done here seemed to be mostly just you favorite bands (as evidenced by Jason's and Kramzer's top picks ) - Joe deserves a salute for not picking the obvious one there. (And yes, I have read the headline is "The Best artists..." etc.). Anyway, could be a suggestion for a another couple of shows once you're reach 20,000 subs. :-)

Even though I didn’t agree with much of what was said, I was happy to see you guys do Oasis. A vastly underrated band in America who are much more than Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. And of course, The Beatles. The GOAT band.

Well Joe is pretty vexing yet cool. First he puts ABBA above Lizzy but then rights all wrongs with Kate Bush, enigma of a man.

Not going with all-time favourites, but rather artists that were either completely new, where I only knew a couple of songs/albums or didn't like them that much initially. All of these got five stars and some even a handful. 10. The Stranglers 9. T. Rex 8. Mott the Hoople 7. Gene Clark 6. The Smashing Pumpkins 5. Black Sabbath 4. Siouxsie & the Banshees 3. Kate Bush 2. Fleetwood Mac 1. Cocteau Twins

Looks like everybody posts their favorite bands list, haha. So I moved in slightly different direction. Artist/bands that I didn't like/know before they were covered here, in no particular order: ▪︎ Tom Waits; ▪︎ Siouxsie and the Banshees; ▪︎ The Beach Boys. HM (and special thanks to Joe!): Stevie Wonder (perhaps the best non-rock artist ever.)

Also, would love the hear a producers discography. Imagine Jimmy Miller or Daniel Lanois. That would be interesting. Was blown away when I realised Miller's last was Screamadelica, which is in my top 10 90's albums,

Genesis in April, 2020 was the first full episode I watched, hooked ever since! Fleetwood Mac- discovered the Welch, Kirwan era. Roxy Music- new nothing about them other than Avalon- Now own a couple disc's and found a good copy of Stranded on vinyl. David Bowie- only new the hits, Station To Station is a masterpiece. Carlos Alomar's a groove machine. The Smiths- highly entertaining episode Jethro Tull sometime this year perhaps? Keep up the great work!

You have covered so many great artists that narrowing it to 10 is near impossible. Favorite artists often revolve around your formative years so my perspective is becoming obsessive about music in the early 80s. David Bowie - Having said where my perspective comes from the 80s were not kind to Mr. Bowie. But you didn't have to look too far back to find those austere and wonderful Berlin albums. Bob Dylan - For most of my adolescence I would have been in the Joe camp. Partially due to Dylan's output seeming sad and out of step and just plain awful at that time. By '89 and Oh Mercy, I had found my way through that magnificent 60s and early 70s catalog. Weirdly through a cover version of Absolutely Sweet Marie by Jason & The Scorchers. Gene Clarke - Already a fan but still had albums I didn't know. TLM got me to dig into those. Thank you. Tom Waits - Not a lot of love for him on the channel. But unlike Dylan and Bowie, Waits had a renaissance in the 80s. The one-two punch of Swordfishtombones and Rain Dogs had me hooked. Joni Mitchell - The quality of her albums tapers off pretty significantly. But peak Joni, Blue through Hejira, are among my all-time favorites. Radiohead - I was pretty indifferent to 90s Radiohead, but since 2000 and Kid A they have made challenging masterpiece after masterpiece. Talking Heads - And following Radiohead the band that gave them their name! The first four Talking Heads albums are clever, inventive, and fun. And they introduced me to afrobeat and Fela Kuti, so just on that alone, they make the top 10. Roxy Music - Again the first four albums are where the quality lies. Clever, inventive, and fun! No wonder Eno wanted to work with Talking Heads. Still weighing up whether to see them on their farewell tour. The Velvet Underground - Again not a lot of love for VU in these parts. But similar to Jason's Beatles comment, a lot of the artists I love wouldn't be here without the Velvets. And like both The Beatles and Dylan they expanded the vocabulary of popular music. The Band - For the longest time I would have said the self-titled second album was my favorite album of all time. It is still pretty close to the top. The first two albums are near perfect, Stage Fright can hold its head up and there are great tracks on all the remaining releases by the full line-up. Just check out Acadian Driftwood on Northern Lights-Southern Cross.
