I was first introduced to Chinese characters through my studies of Japanese at a university, I learnt a few dozens of characters with their correct stroke sequence but over the years I forgot many as I left the school and did not really continue my Japanese studies. About a month ago I decided I wanted to learn Chinese, I started with Paul Noble's amazing audiobooks, which I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who's thinking about learning Chinese, but I had very little visual stimuli. Although there is a booklet coming with the courses, it doesn't really teach you to write Chinese characters. So now I can already speak a little bit and know some of the Mandarin Chinese grammar, but I am basically illiterate. So I was looking for a good way to learn the Chinese characters and I stumbled upon this video. I love how this lesson is structured and the fact that we are shown the proper stroke sequence. And on top of that we learn the proper words for all kinds of strokes together with the historical origins of the characters! Thank you very much for this video, Mr. Zheng Tao, it's an amazing source of knowledge! 谢谢

All written characters naturally began as pictographs of some sort, but the Latin alphabet simply lost a lot of its similarities over time just because of the way people ended up using it. It seems that Chinese is different and retained its link to the old symbols, which is pretty cool!
@tinkerknight80222 жыл бұрын
Chinese language has 2 systems, writing and pronunciation. Pronunciation changes over time across regions and forms varies dialects. It is the unified writing system that has been keeping an empire from falling apart before industrial revolution.
@Joan-qe7gm Жыл бұрын
In a sense Latin letters are still the writing system. The fall of the Roman Empire ended the speaking, but the Latin letters ended up dominating writing systems in Western Europe. In this case, the writing system was adapted to fit the various languages - adding ligatures to satisfy German and French for example.

Hi, I am from Trinidad, I am a student of the Chinese language. It has been quite awhile I have not been studying the language although i practice speaking the language with the many Chinese nationals that I come in contact with whom are doing business in my country. As I view video, I am truly amazed how wonderfully easy , you make this very difficult language seem quite easy. Hats off to you, continue this great work.

After watching more than 20 Chinese dramas found myself here 😂😂 now i want to learn Chinese then realized it was so complicated than hangul in Korea. 😅😅 Nose bleed . I'll keep trying ..or maybe switch to Chinese basic conversation than learning too many characters..

I read in some books that King (Wang) was drawn that way as he is the intermediary between Heaven (top line), and Earth (bottom) line. I like the way you explain Chinese characters!
@wangqi13872 жыл бұрын
This is the interpretation of the orthodox Chinese pictograph, which is to obtain the meaning to be expressed by comparing several stages from the original original text to the intermediate deformation to today's form. The explanations you've read before are arbitrary, (fake) doctrines created in an attempt to learn Chinese characters. And it made a very serious mistake, Chinese characters are hieroglyphs, not ideograms..

Also when you are writing a Chinese character make sure you write it from top to bottom and/or left to right. Here are a few examples, Top to bottom: 寻 (xún) start from the top half, then the bottom half (寸 cùn). Characters like 寻 (xún) can be separated into 2 parts (top and bottom). Left to right: 晴 (qíng) start from the left side (日 rì), then the right side (青 qīng). Characters like 晴 (qíng) can be separated into two parts (left and right). Here is a special one: 树 (shù) this character is also written from left to right. Starting with the left (木 mù), then the middle (又 yòu), and lastly the right (寸 cùn). Characters like 树 (shù) can be separated into three parts (the left, middle, and right). Other characters like 树 (shù) include 班 (bān), 谢 (xiè), 做 (zuò), and 街 (jiē). These types of words are simpler (there are many more ways to write characters that cannot be separated into top and bottom/left and right (and middle).
