Can you tell me more about this flip grid and then recording themselves and letting other students look at other students reading online? How difficult was it for them to learn how to work through that and how did you put it to where everybody could see it?

Truly it’s taken us 2.5 years to finally feel like we love what we’re doing. It’s such a hard part of your day! I still struggle with guided reading all the time, every time I feel like I’ve got it, something changes 😂. I’m so glad this was helpful for you though ☺️

It takes a lot of practice! We don’t differentiate until a few weeks in either. Every student is doing the same thing at first and the centers are super basic. Just to get the hang of it. We also do maybe a week or so altogether, we just go through the work and checklist as a class before I let them be independent.

I don’t, it’s so specific to my team and my class that I’ve never posted it. I’d be happy to create a template though and add that with a sample. It’s really just a bunch of boxes though lol! But let me know and I’d be happy to create that ☺️

Thank you for your video. This is a great way to get time with your small groups and help them move forward. I like that you differentiate instruction for each group. I'll be teaching dual language 2nd grade for the first time. We'll be using wonders as well. This helped me visualize some choices.

Thank you so much for making this! We use wonders and differentiate and thus gave me some more ideas! We do sheets but not all in one packet that’s interesting. Hands on stuff can be hard! I don’t use technology during reading just math so that’s smart.

So glad this was helpful!! Ours aren’t in a packet either, I just stick the page in their folder every morning and staple at the end of the week. The hands on stuff is SO hard to monitor. It totally depends on the class too, some years so better with hands on games. You should definitely try to use wonders online with your kiddos! There are SO many amazing resources on there! ❤️

Great video! Very helpful hints. You mentioned that the kids can read their fluency passages and then listen to themselves read when played back. Are you using a specific program for that or just recording themselves on an iPad? Thanks for your help.

We use flip grid! It’s a website that you set up and send them the link, and then they can go on and film a video and then post it and watch each other’s as well! They love it 😊

I have no clue in what part of the day to include my centers. Help ! Im a new 2nd grade bilingual teacher, and im finding that im taking to long during lessons, i feel i dont have enough time to even start centers. But my students do need them because they are in 2nd grade but their at a beginner level, some dont know their alphabet yet . Need help :()

I do a new packet each day, you could definitely do it weekly. My fear was always that I would have kiddos who would work too fast and end up finishing the entire week’s packet in one of two days, then have nothing for the rest of the week lol. Plus having a large packet can be overwhelming for many students vs seeing a a couple pages.

We basically just start off by doing the same thing at the start of the year, and we all do it together. Once I have levels and know my students better, I begin with two separate groups and eventually break off more depending on what I need that year and how wide the levels are. I’ve had up to 4 groups. Since every group has a similar routine, it’s easy to switch up. If it’s something that must be taught, I will use up a guided reading group time to bring them over to my table and walk them through it. Or sometimes I can have a higher student work with a student and show them how to do something new.
