I really like the futuristic rifles guards are carrying. They modernized the M16 by removing the foregrip and heat shield from around the barrel. You save 3 ounces of weight but sear the skin from your hands if you shoot the gun.

I know! You’d think at the very least some greedy company would have had the bright idea to create some kind of Battle Royale style mode. I already have the premise: Prison is getting overpopulated and they need to clear it out, be the last prisoner standing, and you’re pardoned of all crimes committed in the United States. The US Police Force slowly releases a toxic gas that engulfs the ruins of New York City, forcing prisoners closer and closer together. Just the basic premise adapted to the world of the film. I mean, that’s not what I’d want, I’d prefer a single player adaptation of the film, but it would work nonetheless!

I got to see this on a big screen about seven years ago at An Evening with John Carpenter at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. I was much more impressed than when I'd rented it years before on VHS. The part that stuck with me is how the camera was following along as Brain and his girlfriend were approaching the guards holding the president.

MAC-10 (or Ingram M-10). An Uzi would have been a step up. And that scope is of department store quality. AND it's mounted on top of the sound suppressor! 🤣 And, as per typical, the collapsible stock is left in its storage position for no reason. Oh, and there's a trashy sling that flops around, creating an extra distraction/snag point. El Mariachi used that same gun (sans Walmart scope).

1. Snake is in trouble throughout the entire movie. 2. A British President? 3. Manhattan is a very expensive real estate for a prison. 4. Everyone who says, "I heard/thought you were dead" dies. 5. The eye patch is Russell's idea.😎 6. I loved, loved, loved Harry Dean Stanton😁😇 7. This was filmed entirely at night in an area of St Louis before it was refurbished. 8. The woman in the Chock-full-O-nuts is Season Hubley. Russell's squeeze before he met Goldie. 9. The only reason to watch "Escape from LA" is to say you have. Besides doing this for a living.

I fell in love with RedEye after desperately searching for someone to joyfully, fan gush with smartass but honest loving tribute to the ONLY movies I watch now by using my DVD player like a time machine- I rewatch & ENJOY the classics of MY youth- the 1970s and 1980s. THANK YOU for great, entertaining and informative videos about ART & CINEMA that has never received the RESPECT and GLORY that it deserves. But if that were the case, then the films would be MAINSTREAM and LOSE ALL their Class, Fun, Intelligence and HUGE CREATIVE LOW-HANGING BALLS! Long Live Old School cheesy, bloody, sexy, cool, gritty, cheap, heartfelt, counterculture, rebellious, tongue-in-cheek, loud & proud, in your face movie making for CREATORS and MOVIE FANS who understand that films shouldn't be about awards, CGI, product placement advertising, blockbusting or self-important grandstanding crap! I LOVE RETRO CINEMA WHERE THE "MOVIE MAGIC" is clearly man-made and done with HUMAN INGENUITY, SLY WITTY EFFICIENCY, GUTS & GLAMOUR, SYMBOLISM and of course.......TASK THE VIEWERS TO USE THEIR OWN IMAGINATIONS TO HELP IMBUE THE STORYTELLING WITH LIFE. I am so DONE with OBVIOUS, OVER THE TOP, COMPUTER GENERATED MASS HYSTERIA. Movies SUCK NOW because CGI is being used REGULARLY to create settings, costumes, stunts/actions and WORST OF ALL- human actors. What happened to using young and old actors or make-up to show age or passage of time in films? Now they manipulate actor's faces or CUT & PASTE SCREEN SHOTS over actors. Yet movies are still super expensive to make while using LESS actual people to create the films? Seems like hagga to me, LOL 😆😜😁 Anyway, I'm a loyal subscriber!!!!! Keep 'em coming! Rollerball starring James Caan is my dream RedEye review..........it COULD happen.

EFNY is inspired by many other movies from Planet of the apes, night of the living dead, death wish, dirty harry, super fly, and you might want to check out The ultimate warrior.. The action in this film isnt much to write home about, but the atmosphere Carpenter built up is so dense - that took my whole attention till the end. And i am glad that this was a standalone film, not a friggin franchise ( i dont want a Snake Plissken-bedsheet , and i do ignore "Escape from LA"). This movie stands out to me, just as the first two Mad Max-movies did. The holy trinity of apocalyptic movies.
