Y'know, honestly I don't like this one. I kind of feel like analog horror has lost its 'surprise" factor. Like, the whole point of analog horror was to be all mysterious and unnerving, like the feeling of finding an old VHS tape in a barn or your attic. But this just feels like the classic 'kids show turned evil' trope. I'm also not a big fan of the constant glitching and flashing on the screen, it seriously takes away from the overall series. Usually analog horror starts of normal (and if anything nostalgic), but this one just plows through that with the speed of a horse and is all "OHH THERE'S A KIDS SHOW BUT SPOOOKYYY NOW"
@anecro2 ай бұрын
Analogue horror is being attempted by stupid people that have no clue what their goals are, how to actually do horror AND they weren't born when vhs was around. Most of it is clearly low effort garbage with a generic context made possible through our time's easy to use tools. It's all based on a tiny malformed piece of the times they're trying to emulate, that they have misinterpreted on top of that. I've kind of become tired of this stuff, because I like old tech and I like the idea that it can be haunted (which was a concept in fiction decades before this online trend) but every time I step my foot into something new like this I now see the term "analogue horror" and immediately get disappointed, because the name of this genre as a whole carries with it so much garbage and essentially means it's gonna suck.

This analog horror series was a mess. With the genre so oversaturated, you would think that all the problems would have been ironed out at the drawing board. But no, more random loud noises (because jump scares = horror), unpleasant imagery (because gross outs = horror), tedious codes (because number strings = analog and QR codes somehow = analog), violence on children, and a giant mix of messages that all somehow coexist on the same footage, is the design decision. Honestly, just why. When you make a story, try to have something you want to say or explore. This was just a memetic serial killer story, but, what was it actually about? It was probably a challenge to see how many tropes you could jam onto the screen at the same time...
@anecro2 ай бұрын
Sucks ass, can't sugarcoat it. The problem isn't that the issues of it have gone unnoticed by the creators, the problem is... the creators. It's the fact that they don't have a clue about horror with like 5 individual exceptions total, like the monument mythos. Most of them are teens or early adults that don't have a clue about how vhs works and why some haunted old tech media is successful, most of the time they're focusing on the spooky visuals they saw on tiktok with no self restraint at all and completely forget about the background work a story needs to support itself. Unfortunately, as soon as something is labeled "analogue horror" we have all of those KZbinrs picking them up because the kid and teen fanbase that follows these things go rabid regardless of quality, it's an immediate paycheck and attention spike. Another thing that comes to mind is the shit stain that was "the boiled one" and how horrendously bad that video was put together, especially the government sketches that were basically ms paint doodles. I even saw one or two typos. The images with the creature edited in didn't even match eachother, on a contrast and black level base lmfao. There's just no care for these things, people seem to do them just because of narcissism and getting views and unfortunately it's working, so there's no reason for any kind of change to happen.

Also almost none of the video distortions are things that can happen to a VHS tape. This is blatantly a digital video that's a bit corrupted with a VHS filter.

The Teletubbies were never that creepy to me when I was little. Sid, on the other hand, has got some kind of uncanny valley shit going on. Nothing _too_ bad, but still a little uncomfortable to look at. Tho, in all fairness, I watched the former when I was little, and the latter didn't even exist until I was too old for that sort of thing. So it could come down to a matter of perspective. Some things that we are exposed to as children, especially things we enjoyed, will not creep out or alarm us the way it might someone who never saw it growing up and encountered it when they're older. Tho some stuff _does_ frighten children right off the bat; sometimes wildly unexpected things! Likewise, a child might not fear the things we find creepy as adults; I remember reading a little anecdote where someone took their toddler to a Halloween shop- not with the _intention_ to frighten them, mind you; just forgetting that that might be a problem- and the little bean being largely unphased by some of the more gruesome-looking props.

güby is an interesting concept, but imo isnt executed as well as the concept itself. i see why theyd use AI to make missing posters of kids (to avoid using real pictures of real kids), but it does ruin it at least a LIIIITLE more for me. its not that big of a deal or anything, but they couldve put in a little more work. even a sketch - even a tiny one, bad, quick or rough sketch, in my opinion, would make it worth watching a little more. AI is lazy in most cases, and while sometimes it can be "beneficial" to some people, using it like this isnt the way to go (imo once more).

Can we not make something that uses ai art popular? Ai art isnt real art and shouldnt be platformed as if it is. It takes attention away from real artists with good stories. If you want something similar to Güby and Friends, i recommend Angel Hare, i found that series via Night Mind, aka Nick Nocturne, and without spoiling too much, its about a sentient cartoon character named Angel Gabby, who helps the watcher, Jonah, kill his father. At least, thats what season one was about, i believe they're making a season two. They even had a livestream, where Angel Gabby interacted with Jonah, that took real skill to make something seem like it happens in real time and if they messed it up, it could have ruined the series, but they nailed it. Check out Angel Hare.
