Thanks that was somewhat helpful. Initial questions pertaining to Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries were first size, second output I am using a pair of 34ah lead acid batteries. Not answered is if it would burn out the old drive motor were I to install a pair of 12V 100ah batteries. My suspicion is that the drive speed rheostat would bear the brunt. I have two scooters 3wheeled ancient items from 70's 80's. Neighbor that owns rent house next door contributed them rather than make a trip to the dump with his parents discarded scooters after they passed. Between the two, there was one pair of lead acid deep cycle 12 volt batteries still functional. Both vehicles running on 24 volt at the axel motor brake part. These are 34 amp batteries. Some stuff I had viewed gave the impression that the crop of 12 volt Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries were constructed to emulate the old fashioned 12 volt batteries. I remember a video with a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery assembled into a Harley Davidson where they pulled the spark plug wires and cranked the starter. With old Lead it cranked a couple of dozen revs then crapped out. The LIFePo installed and they cranked for several minutes until it burned out the starter. Installed a second starter and continued to crank for several minutes burning out the second starter and power wire. Repaired replaced, and continued for a few minutes on the third starter and it finally dropped off. They cooled the 3rd starter motor, checked the power wire fix. re-attached the spark plug wires and hit the started. The FiFePo cranked as well as the new lead acid had successfully starting the 80 inch stroker Harley without a sweat on the nearly burnt out third starter. This is what started me thinking about a LiFePo replacement for deep cycle lead acid batteries for the antique mobility scooters. I had continued to use the thoroughly worn original pair of lead acid to travel 3/4 mile to the grocery store for three years, three hot summers, two cold winters. The guide wheel on the newer scooter gave up the ghost and seriously demanded a replacement caster. So, I switched the batteries to the second older scooter and used it as the market cart for another year until finally its steering caster wheel disintegrated. Both are nice bolted together rims. So, a replacement tire should be no problem. I have been somewhat apprehensive about fitting the wheels with replacement bearings. All that new scooter vehicles I have seen lately are so expensive it would be cheaper to buy one of those small electric cars that are just a little more than a golf cart. In my state the EV cars limited to under 40mph are street legal not requiring tag, tax, tittle, insurance, State driver licensing. Obviously much more simple and inexpensive than just buying an old junk gas car spare to do the market chores. The drive mechanicals are in surprisingly good shape given that they are 40 or 50 years old. So, I will consider your valuable information regarding need for a lithium battery charger to go with lithium batteries. I may still be able to use the mechanical parts with alternate wheels. Or, simple updating. Or being now 68 years old, just drop dead. Thanks again for the info.

New to this, how available are parts like batteries? Got any tips for break down and set up to help an 80 year old lady without a lot of strength?

We sell parts and replacement batteries for Go-Go Elite Travellers, if you ever need a part just give our Parts Department a call at (877) 321-3241. As for disassembling, it would the easiest to have a hand when lifting the scooter! The heaviest piece should be either 29 or 34 pounds depending on if you're getting a 3-wheel or 4-wheel. Otherwise, I might suggest looking into lithium batteries so you have an increased travel range and could maybe ride the scooter further instead of lifting it in/out of a car!

Great information, but the problem is changing them. My scooter has a built-in charger for SLA batteries that plugs into the wall. Any suggestions on how that would work or how to modify it to work with LifePo4 batteries?

You'll need a separate charger for Lithium batteries. We don't recommend any modifications on the charger though since it can get a bit tricky. Thanks for watching @nonyabiznayee3514!

You shouldn't upgrade your EW36 to lithium, I don't recommend it. If you do, you would need to get a charger rated for 48 volts.

I checked with Pride Mobility this morning and they Claims I cannot use or Upgrade my SLA to LITHIUM on my Pride EZ GO GO Mobility Scooter. I do not understand why one would not be able to do so.
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
you can, it will void your warranty. Pride doesn't want after market batteries in their scooters, even though they don't manufacturer batteries. Striking odd, but we will play by their rules.
@markkenter81232 жыл бұрын
@@MobilityDirect The warranty is passed. The way it was explained to me its a matter of voltage. A lithium battery is a shade over 13 volts and 2 Lithium batteries will approach 27 ??? Do I have that right?. The 2 SLA's result in a tad over 25. So as it was explained to me, you can "burn up the motor". It seems to me that if you get a Lithium that has 12.8, I should be ok. But again, I don quite know the science .
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
@@markkenter8123 that's very wrong. The controller determines the voltage output to the motor. Not the batteries. The max voltage to that controller voltage input 30 volts. We know the science very well. Now based upon your initial question. There is no such product as a Pride EZ Go Go Mobility Scooter, but all of our 24v systems use controllers that handle 30v max. The product you have is either a Pride Go Go Scooter, or a Merits EZ Go Power Wheelchair.
@markkenter81232 жыл бұрын
@@MobilityDirect You are correct, It reads GO GO on the rear of the scooter although the battery compartment case states GO GO Elite Traveller.
@markkenter81232 жыл бұрын
@@MobilityDirect Well Id rather not play by their rules, unless the consequence is a burned motor. Then I have to look at new scooter options if I want lithium down the road and it will unlikely be a Pride.

I tried doing this, and what I found out is that Lithium Ion Batteries have a higher Running Voltage, and it was having my Scooter Shut down. I had the computer say it was too hot!
@charleyb44242 жыл бұрын
You need to alter battery voltage settings in your scooter's controller to be for appropriate voltage for LiFePo4.. See my 3 comments posted to the video for more info.
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
Its not necessary for most scooters, you don't need to program the controller on 90% of the models. If you have an issue with your scooter not taking the lithium batteries, you may need to program the controller.

After a conversion to lithium batteries, can you still take your scooter on s plane?
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
Only if the total watt-hours don't exceed 300. To calculate watt-hours you multiply the voltage by the amp hours.
@videoscrapheap2 жыл бұрын
@@MobilityDirect I thought that the limit on airlines was 160Wh.
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
@@videoscrapheap 300 is the standard, but that might not be the case in certain countries or with certain airlines. That's why we always recommend checking before purchasing if you plan to travel by plane with your scooter.

I just called your 800 number and they said you couldn't get any Pride scooters converted to lithium. You had to order the Endurance.
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
If you put lithium batteries in a brand new Pride scooter, it will void the warranty. However, if you wait until the batteries' warranty is over, you can replace them with lithium! Some Pride scooters have their own lithium upgrades as well.
@faoz16072 жыл бұрын
What are the downsides to this? Like if it has so many benefits why doesn’t pride include it as standard?
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
Lithium is just more expensive but in the long run the 11 year warranty is worth it. Other than that they are not really even comparable. Lithium is just a newer technology. Lead acid is being phased out.
@videoscrapheap2 жыл бұрын
Or why not offer lithium as an option at the time of purchase. Maybe the same model number but add “-L” to designate lithium batteries. Of course there would be a premium but less than doing the conversion yourself and it wouldn’t void any warranty.
@MobilityDirect2 жыл бұрын
@@videoscrapheap probably because the scooters are boxed and packaged straight off the assembly line with the batteries already in them. Once they get rid of all of them they will start offering them exclusively with lithium is my guess.
