Why are metalfoes using the normal summon on nekomata in game 5 against jowgen when silverd can actually attack over it? If you don't out the board that turn, you lose 100% of the time - there was no reason not to go MST first, then desires to dig for another mst/eccentrick, then attack over the jowgen with silverd and attempt to play in MP2. Like I get that misplays can happen but not normal summoning a monster with over 1300 ATK is such a strange decision against a deck that snowballs as hard as Spellbooks

Yeah given 2 fate and a veiler in hand plus followup, I think Spellbooks probably win regardless, but at least you have a fighting chance if you out the Jowgen. I think virtually the only win con is desires into specifically MST/eccentrick to out the second fate and qliphort scout to make CDI after a pend summon, and the board may still get outed anyway since the spellbook player has Priestess.

Perhaps controversial opinion, but I find Spellbooks really boring to watch. Literally every game is the same, protect the floodgate, die if you can’t, win if it sticks around. Most people don’t want Mystic Mine in the Cup for the same reason.
@arjanzweers654222 сағат бұрын
That's pretty much every Protect the Castle style deck. Try to get off 1 monster that restricts the opponent's plays and keep it on the field. Spellbooks, Bujins, Evilswarm, Nekroz, you saw them a fair bit during that time period, and none of them were fun to play against, or watch being played.
@sejotejerina373222 сағат бұрын
Full combo and floodgates serve the same purpose: lock the opponent out of the game. That's always the goal players aim to if possible 😂😂😂. We've seen few "fair" formats like hat for example. That's how we the Yu-Gi-Oh players are right? At least in a competitive environment, win at any cost. So it doesn't make sense to complain at win conditions, every single one is part of the history of this game.
@arjanzweers654222 сағат бұрын
@@sejotejerina3732 I know, and I'm not an enjoyer of full combo "unbreakable" boards either. Competitive game design over relying on negations and generic extra deck boss monsters that needlessly increase the ceiling of combo decks have been one of my biggest gripes of modern Yugioh. That, together with 1 card being full combo. I'm at least glad to see that the TCG has been hitting generic negates and that after the debacle that's Snake-Eyes, we now see archetypes like Ryzeal that are also 1 card combo, but have a significantly lower ceiling and end on boards that are actually breakable.
@ccjl916022 сағат бұрын
Nah that's fair. I actually remember liking how the deck played a lot more after the Judgement ban, even if it was rogue at best
@MayhemMessiah22 сағат бұрын
@@sejotejerina3732 sure, but we’ve seen Spellbooks do the exact same boring plays for years and years on the Cup. We can just let the deck rest and not have it every single year when this is essentially a spectator sport where the first deck to qualify for Grand Finals top bracket is absurdly uninteresting and linear to watch.

I still think the scariest thing about Jowgen is how it can be utilized as a board wipe in a pinch if that proves necessary. Though most people that run it usually use it as a stopgap so that rarely comes up.

True, although what people tend to forget is that Jowgen discards at random to do it, which can be supremely annoying.

Question for my fellow pendulum players, shouldnt the play G1 be set Combination with the lvl 2(poping Eccentric) and pop it with the other Eccentric to guarantee the low scale by searching it? Then, activate one of the pendulums and set the fusion before using Desires, passing with 2 eccentric on the field and maybe Alkahest for interruption(if they drew Bunbuku, could pass on Totem or Kirin) Nice games btw, just asking to see if I remember how the deck works 😀
@pargustavsson71222 сағат бұрын
there were a lot of things metalfoes should have done differently, including that. he is obsessed with getting fusion first an making an early mithrilium and just generally trying to "go plus" and get all the one-ofs out of the deck. he scales bismugear way too early as it was usually the last scale you played down since you cant pendulum it. you used to win soo many game of just alkahest stealing monsters (and we saw exaclty how brutal its in this matchup the game he made it), and if you really wanted to fusion away your fusion on opponents turn you would make orichalc to get the free destruction

with how long judgment was banned i do wonder how thing would have gone if we just banned jowgen. this may look even but without jowgen would spellbooks even remotely stand a chance even with a card that says add 5 cards. more important how early could we have released judgment with a jowgen ban and the deck would not be relevant. maybe that card was actually never the issue to beginn with

Their spell toolbox is worse than what is available with sky strikers and runick, so I would say no. It could maybe be an extra engine in a runick control/stun deck if those cards were able to be used on opps turn after judgement resolves

I believe someone topped a regional with runick spellbooks, that is what you asked right? Literally fountain xd but of course it wasn't a deck that topped enough to be relevant.
@Haooryu21 сағат бұрын
it would need couple of cards to be meta, first of a 2nd blue boy that can ss it self and also search, another searcher spellbook spell with a GY effect to banish itself and another spellbook card to draw 2 cards, a new interruption spellbook spell card that is infinitely better than fate, for example just like fate it would have 3 effects based on amount of spellbook cards u banished: 1 negate 1 face--up card's effect until end of this turn, 2 shuffle 1 card on the field into the deck, 3 you can activate this card in response to an activation of an effect of a card or a summon of a monster; negate that effect/summon and banish it, and even has a GY effect to banish it self and send a face up card to GY given that you control a face up "prophecy" card, it would need a new boss monster that you can ss from hand during either player's turn, it would be able to target spellbook cards in your GY up to the amount of monsters your opponent controls, return all of those to hand (so both the spellbook cards back to your hand and opponents monsters back to hand (without targeting)) and it would need to have at least 3000 ATK, and finally a new fieldspell similar to mystic mine but locked in the archetype for spellbooks that makes all your spellbook monsters unaffected by card effects that don't target them and more effs and probably also a new continues spell card that lets you ss a spellcaster from deck by removing spell counters anywhere from the field equal to that monster's level, and also it gets a spell counter every time a spellbook card or its effect is activated, also it makes all your prophecy monsters non targetable by card effects, also during the end phase it should be able to recover a resource.
