Excellent, clear explanation all the way through. One thought: The front cell-box retention plate could be fitted with longer bolts, compression springs, and appropriately sized washers to apply a fairly constant retention force on the cell stacks while allowing movement for thermal cycling.

I would think you could easily add a circuit breaker. I would add one and perhaps a class T fuse, but I am a belt and suspenders type. Good review BTW. I have never had a cell bloat in 5 years, but I am of course very careful to USE A BMS! Provided you keep the cells in the operating range (2.5v to 3.65v) you should get only very minor bulging, not bloating.

Good video, thanks. I think this type of system is a good balance between full DIY and full plug and play battery system. I saw another brand of these boxes where you assembled all of the components into the box yourself, this one was sort of cool in that it was pre assembled.

How BMS can prevent internal short-circuit or accumulation of gases and thermal runaway ? Such explosion can destroy house.

At the end, you have the case on its side. Would it be safe to leave them that way? I am figuring the best non-rack mount for a new power house and 6-8 on their side, space wise makes sense in my mind for a few reasons. Nice build and seems complete. I agree about wishing it had a breaker. Final decisions really comes down to the BMS. Curious for an update on the BMS and/or performance.

The back side of this battery housing appears to have openings which would allows for expansion in the belly area of each cell. So the front side (full) compression plate would serve no purpose. So in my professional opinion, if your goal is to prolong the life of your cells, I would avoid the purchase of this battery box and buy a box that provides for full cell compression.
@LithiumSolar3 ай бұрын
While you pointed out an interesting thing here, an aluminum-cased cell is not going to push out a hole like that... Sure, you might get an extra millimeter or two of expansion vs a solid back, but I think it's negligible. Also, the idea is not compression... it's just holding the cells in place.
@quickquote15683 ай бұрын
@@LithiumSolar Several years ago, I built a frame similar to this battery box design, where only the edges where encased by approximately 1". After 6 months of consistent cycling, I found that the cells expanded by approximately 4mm to 5mm at the center point of the both cells at the ends of the frame.

@LithiumSolar5 ай бұрын
Of course it is. I discussed the programmed BMS settings in the PC Software section of the video.
@ursodermatt88095 ай бұрын
@@LithiumSolar you did not really try it out. i did not mean whether it is balancing or not. what i think is important whether or not the BMS is capable of balancing dells. some of the balancers can't do it, unless the cells are brand new and already balanced before built in.
@LithiumSolar5 ай бұрын
@@ursodermatt8809 I see what you're getting at. I don't have an exact specification for this BMS, but they're typically 30-60mA. That is more than capable of keeping a 230Ah battery in balance. The instructions specifically state that you should have them balanced prior to assembly. This is true for practically every single battery, not just this particular case. If you have a cell that's self-discharging faster than the others, and so fast that the BMS cannot keep up, then that cell is faulty and should be replaced. Again, this is true with pretty much any battery out there.
@ursodermatt88095 ай бұрын
@@LithiumSolar so, personally, i would not trust that balancer. that might work when the cells are brandnew but a few years down the road ....... and also notice when the battery can't be balanced for a few weeks because of cloudy weather, i don't think the 30-60mA will cut it.
@LithiumSolar5 ай бұрын
@@ursodermatt8809 This is one of the better brands of balancers out there. Quite honestly, it sounds like you have a turd and are blaming the balancer for your turd not being balanced. The 30-60mA is pretty standard, and for good reason.
