St Michael Archangel church I'm reliably informed was turned into an art gallery by the Soviets, until restored as present day Catholic Church. Great video mate, love it! Brings back many recent memories before Covid!

Interesting Rich, I knew about the history of Christ's resurrection church but not St Michael the Archangel! Hopefully they'll have finished the building work on it next time you're there!

I like Kaunas' interwar Art Deco architecture. I've finished Vytautas Magnus uni - best memories ever.

It's a great city, I think the architecture here is really beautiful too

@@TheLostBrit I hope once they finish building Rail Baltica (high speed railway) going through Kaunas it will boost city's tourism and economy and it will help to renovate some of the abandoned and run down buildings and streets.

@@baktom Yes definitely, will be really beneficial when that's done, hopefully more people will come and visit!

Hi from a fellow Brit who moved to Kaunas 3 months ago.

Good to hear from you Andrew - how are you finding Kaunas so far? :)
@andrewhennigan73774 жыл бұрын
@@TheLostBrit Good so far. Before Kaunas we lived in rural Thailand for 3 years, so it's nice being close to things (but we miss the beach!)

It looks dull and uninteresting there in winter, but once it gets warmer and greener, you’ll enjoy it more.

I love it here even in the winter :D great city!

I’m from this town, but I’ve never been on these steps! Maybe because I’ve lived in the UK for the last 20 years! 😂

Between 1807 and 1815 the Niemen river was the border of the Duchy of Warsaw and from 1815 until the First World War (for a whole century) - the border of the Kingdom of Poland.

Interesting, didn't know that!

Love the videos, don't forget Lithuania is actually in Northern Europe 😉

Of course! 😉

Geographically it is in North Europe, but culture-wise we will be still called by everyone as an Eastern Europe country. Although we might not agree with that but to western countries we look all the same as Slav countries although our language is not even Slavic. But you can try and argue with them 😂
