My mom made me try all kind of Lithuanian dishes as a kid, so I knew all of them but almost never liked any except for a few. But well I was a kid and I am going to visit this awesome country again this year so I am excited to retry and see if my opinions might changed. But back then my favourites where "Kepta Duona" and "Koldunai"

Out of all the chain restaurants Etno dvaras has the best cepelinai in my opinion, but that might just be because they are very similar to what my mom makes at home. Also my favourite Lithuanian dish has to be kugelis (bulvių plokštainis). It's so simple and yet I could probably eat it every day and not get tired of it.

I had kugelis from Etno Dvaras- it was cold in the middle and didn’t seem properly prepared. A little disappointed about it but I hope future experiences will be better.

For me Etno Dvaras seems like it's a place that's made for tourists to come in and try tradtional lithuanian food, but the restraunt makes the food with E and stuff to make the costs cheaper which would lead to an incorrect impression of the food.

@@LithuaniaExplained I haven't tried the fried pig ear, but the fact that it is popular worldwide would mean that it tastes good. There is nothing squeamish about it all over say, eating other things like tripe, eyes or fertilized developing chicken eggs. Descriptions say it has the crispiness and taste of a pork rind along with bacon and ham flavors since it isn't just fried pig skin. It is often served with some kind of dipping sauce that compliments it.

2:19 The kepta duona is ussually cooked in a pan, so it's ussually not "Boiled in oil". Also, 3:50 it's not always grated potatoes. I personally like them when the potatoes are not grated.

The beetroot soup is a must-try! It is known as "borscht" in Russia/Ukraine/Belarus, Eastern European countries, and is traditional also in all the Northern European countries and spans all the way to Spain with their take giving it some Gaspacho flavors like cucumber and tomato.

I'm Lithuanian and I deadass didn't even know half of these things are considered Lithuanian, I was most shocked that Gira was one, I thought it was about as popular as beer or ale all around the world.

Apparently, forms of Gira are consumed in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Baltic countries, Finland and some parts of China. But outside of these places, it's not as common or non-existent.

Technically kibinai are not Lithuanian they are Karaim, but they live in Trakai since medieval times so this become a go to snack a long time ago. Also if you want it good don't buy it in supermarket go to "Senoji kibininė" where they make it fresh and provide venison, lamb or other interesting options (traditionally it should not be pork). Bulvių plokštainis is made from grated potatoes, not from mashed and is bastardised version of Jewish Kugel. Potato pancakes do not require flower or egg usually it is just grated potatoes (again :) ). If you ever feel adventurous go to "Žemaičių Ąsotis" in naujamiestis, they can provide more obscure things like blood sausage or pigs foot they also make their own kwass (most places sell factory made stuff) and have mead on tap. Nice content keep it coming
