A Red Bonsai Aquascape | The Sokan Bonsai | Step-by-Step Setup | 4K Video

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2022, everyone! 🥰
I normally make the bonsai canopy with moss (e.g. fissiden moss, christmas moss...etc.). This time I would like to try stem plants instead. I chose Rotala Rotundifolia 'blood red' (so called in Singapore) since this plant is very easy-going and can create bushy effect after trimmings. The stems were tied in bunches and tuff into the bonsai driftwoods branches. After many trimmings and replanting, it getting thicker and bushier and create a good canopy. Most of the Rotala rotundifolia species that I have tried so far can thrive without planting into the substrate. The aerial roots can develop to take more nutrients from the water column for the plants to grow.🌱

Hihi... dùng Moss nhiều quá rồi Tuấn ơi. Anh thử dùng cây cắt cắm xem thế nào và cũng thấy khá ổn. Vảy ốc chịu cắt rất tốt và mọc lên ngày càng rậm rạp, cái rễ của nó phát triển ra như là dây "tơ hồng" ở nhà mình nên cũng khá phê. 😄

@@LitiAquaria làm sao để mọc thành bụi to dày ạ trong khi mỗi lần tỉa cây sẽ suy dần các lá ở trên phát triển nhưng ở dưới thiếu sáng sẽ lụi hết lá nhổ những bụi to nhổ đi cắm lại rất bất tiênh

Thường với cây cắt cắm, mỗi lần căt tỉa ngọn, nó sẽ ra búp non nhiều hơn và sau vài lần cắt sẽ tạo thành tán cây dày. Phần dưới gốc thiếu sáng trụi lá cũng sẽ tồn tại được trong một thời gian khá dài, khoảng vài tháng cũng đủ để tầng tán phát triển như ý muốn. Khi nó lụi, mình cần thay ngọn mới và lặp lại vòng tuần hoàn cắt tỉa như trên.

Hi buddy. Thank you. 😃 As you can see from my video, I used ziptie to make bunches of stem plants and stuff it in the bonsai branches. It helped to anchor there better.

Beautiful but is it hard to upkeep? Using CO2? I see the equipment used but was that due to it being specifically needed? Also where did you get the tree?

The tree is crafted by Vietnamese aquascaper. I got it from a shop in Vietnam. :) It's not so difficult to upkeep but you need to change the canopy time to time when the stem plants deteriorated. I used CO2 for that tank for sure. It makes the whole plant growth better. :)

Thank you. Normally, my practice is 1bps of CO2 for every 30L of water volume. You can observe the plants, if it is growing nicely using that gauging, then just keep it that way. If not, increase a bit more. 😊

You can glue the bunch there, too. However, I always try not to use glue, if there are alternative ways to. Glue might damage the stem plant and also leave the white marks there. The stem plants here also need to replace time to time due to deterioration. So as long as you can stuck them to the branches, that's good. 😁👍

I didn't know high tech plants like rotala blood red etc can just be stuff like that without using soil/substrate 😅

Hi buddy, most aquatic plants can take up nutrients from the water column itself without planting in soil/substrate. Rotala species is actually an easy going stem plants. You can try to let some trimming float in the tank, it still can survive and have roots development after sometimes. 😍

Yes, it should be alright. Having said that, I love the lengthy roots since it replicate a real tree roots. 😁👍
