We've had a Litter Robot for about 4 years and love it! At the time we had 5 cats, so we went from 3 LARGE litter boxes to the LR and 1 regular litter box. I don't miss the twice daily scooping at ALL! We found out using lightweight litter works best in it. The odor control is better than a regular litter box but can still get a cat smell. A good hack for that is placing a scented dryer sheet over the carbon filter; simply change it every couple of weeks. The MOST positive thing is the huge reduction in litter used. Where I'm adding a cup a day of litter to the standard litter box, I may only have to add a half a cup a week to the Litter Robot. $699 is a bit steep! IMO, I could do without the wifi and all the other extras. All in all, I've never regretted the $$$ spent! p.s. The reason we still have a standard litter box is because I have a little blind cat with non-severe cerebellar hypoplasia. Her deficiencies in balance and coordination don't hamper her from the standard litter box, but the Litter Robot would. Great review, PJ!

There is no specific weight limit for the Litter-Robot 4, but they do say that most domestic cats (including big breeds like the Maine Coon) will fit just fine! I personally would avoid the older version (Litter-Robot 3) with a big cat, because that globe is smaller.

Peanut is gorgeous! My cat is an in/outdoor cat so sometimes, if the weather's good, I've gone a couple of weeks without having to change litter. However, it may not be my favourite task, but even when my cat spends more time inside, I wouldn't spend $700 on this. A traditional box is so easy to maintain and keep clean - I'd hate having to clean that appliance. I can imagine someone with mobility issues may really appreciate this, but it's not for me🤷🏻‍♀️

Have you made a video on transitioning to a litter box of this type. I've had a cat in the past that was very picky (as well as 20 lbs). I had to remove the covers from my boxes for him.

Not yet, but we can certainly do that video in the future! Transitioning is just a matter of putting the Litter-Robot next to the old litter box and then adding a scoop of dirty litter from the old box to the new to encourage them to investigate it. Eventually you can slowly make the old box less desirable by scooping it less and less often until you see that they are using the new box! 😸

People saying it's too expensive are nuts. I was cat sitting for a friend with 3 cats (and unfortunately only 2 boxes instead of 4) and I WISH she had a litter robot. I would buy this if I had one cat, but the fact that it works for up to 4 cats is amazing. Way better than scooping 5 boxes, and not having poopy paws walking around your home (including your kitchen counters). Also on the topic of cheap vs expensive litter, some of the cheap litters have fine dust particles and are class 1 carcinogens,.

Ability to pay goes a long way. Wish i had it. I DO have ideas for a much different, much larger system for those with numerous kitties! Imagine having 10 indoor cats and only ever having to change the bag once a day without scooping cat turds for 20 minutes! That's the ticket!

I had a litter robot given to me by a friend who's cats wouldn't use it. This was about 6 years ago. It is an older model but only one or two of my cats used it for a while, then they went back to the regular boxes. I still have it set up now and none of my 7 cats that I have now, use it at all. I don't think they like the confinement of it. I've never had any cats that liked covered boxes either. It's a great idea and I wish they would give it another try, but I don't think it's going to happen. This new one does look a bit bigger and a little less confining, but I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway, so I guess I will keep scooping my 7 boxes twice a day and everyone will be happy!!! 😸❤❤❤

This is exactly what I’m worried about!!!! I had what was likely the primitive predecessor, a big enclosed box that you flip over after use. The liter went through a screen type wall and at the end of the flip all the waste fell into a drawer you pulled out and dumped. The whole process took about 20-30 seconds and worked well, I LOVED IT!!!! The cats however decided after a couple weeks that wasn’t gonna happen. When I took the top half off they were happy to use it again. Punks! I cleaned it constantly so I was thinking smell in an enclosed area wasn’t an issue, I think quite a few cats just don’t like the one way in and out!!! No cat will corner themselves willingly!!! I bet there’s just a little nervousness in that way and I imagine it’s tricky to take care of business when you’re worried about being surprised!! I have to save to get this frickin Frankenstein of a litter box, if my cats won’t use it…..that’s gonna SUCK!!! Now I’m second guessing it!!! Considering what it’s used for it wouldn’t surprise me if there isn’t a return option!!! Hmmmmm…… There’s gotta be a solution for this!!! I may call and see what they say before dropping the money for this thing! So glad you posted this predicament!!! It’s a serious issue in the cat community!!! Especially since I need at least two! Ouch!

@@jeffffro7674 Yes, that's another issue, there is a lot of us that would need two of these. Then there's the cost of the filters and bags you'll need, and tax!! Yes, It would totally be a major investment!! I would certainly call first to make sure there is some kind of return option, just in case the cats don't like them. @@cattitude7809 As explained in the video, they have a 90-day at home trial. 🐈 So if you or your cat don’t like it, you can return it for a refund minus the shipping cost. It’s kind of essential for them to have a policy like that because some cats are picky and others take a long time to adapt. As mentioned, Peanut took about a month to get used to it, while the other two cats used it right away. So you never know. All cats are different. Best of luck.

Of course with the time we live in there is always the “planned obsolescence” angle too!!!! The worst words I’ve ever heard!!!! It’s an unfortunate fact of life though so I try my best to beat this by just learning as much as I can so when it INTENTIONALLY FAILS I can actually find the weak design points and replace them with what it should have been a along! A lot more folks need to be thinking this way, it’s kinda sad we should have to but oh well. Thanks for your help!

So my wife and I have 6 cats, 2 are foster fails. We decided about a year ago to buy the model 3 and it was constantly turning so we bought an additional one. We've had to send one in for warranty and now the second one isn't working. We understand 2 is probably not enough for 6 cats, but they definitely help with the repetitive task of cleaning and bending so much. We usually empty the bags twice a week for each box. Anyway, these things are definitely worth it but they are a lot of money and we already have $1200 into them. I'm About to buy the model 4, let's hope the 3 year warranty is worth it.

Besides the $700.00 cost is way out of my price range! It's still not big enough for all cats. Hybrid cats like Savannah or Ashera would have a really hard time fitting. It's also not good if you have a cat that really likes to fling litter out of the box.

I have the older versions, and I hated making the purchases because of the price tag. However, I can't imagine going back to the old pan litter boxes. These things are worth the money as they save me time cleaning litter, are efficient with the litter filtering, and they keep the odors down. If this version works as well as the video describes, it'll provide $700 in value over the first year, let alone its whole life.

This is one of the most thorough and best-reviewed videos I have ever seen in my life I don't think you left out anything. I wonder how many people are willing to pay that amount of money? It is a Time Saver and would make life a lot easier but we are doing good to pay our bills. Even if I had 700 extra dollar I just don't see paying that kind of money. There is nothing I wouldn't do for my boy within reason but that is just too expensive.

I have two cats and although it’s expensive, I’d totally pay for this. I clean their litter boxes like three times a day and when I can, right after they use it. Cleaning it doesn’t bother but. But not only do I want them to have clean litter at all times, but I think it would be more sanitary. They step in their waste if the litterbox is dirty and you can’t always be there to clean it all the time. It would put my mind at ease especially because my one cat loves shoving her paws into my face lol

Nope, we clean out the cat's box each week, similar to cleaning your toilet weekly, and when she uses it, we clean with a scooper. Fastidiousness for our little princess is a small price to pay.

I seriously wonder how people work sometimes. I have 2 indoor cats, one litter box with some 4” of litter in it. We check it often, and scoops it 2 or 3 times/day. None goes on any other place. It’s easy to clean it when needed, nothing about how you even clean that one? Call me what you want, but I want my cats to have a clean box to go to. 😻

We got about 3 years of use out of our litter robot 3. I am the person in the house that is capable of being disciplined and thorough about cleaning but my cat allergy has gotten too severe to even think about going near the litter pan. And no, getting rid of our two cats is not an option. Getting our cats used to litter robot 3 was a bit of a trial, but it did happen, even with the semi-feral who is very skittish. The first one we bought failed quickly, probably because it had to be moved around a lot. The second worked much better but as we reached the 3 year mark it needed more and more maintenance until it just became unacceptable. At this point, the motor seems to be the weak component. I think we might have had a better experience with the litter robot 3 if we had used better quality clumping litter. Also, it should have been monitored more diligently. The smaller litter tray did fill up pretty quickly, and unfortunately our male cat managed to pee inside the box but outside the tray, which created odor problems when litter stuck to the rubber lining material.. I think the lessons I have learned are: use the monitoring app frequently, use good quality litter, maybe set the interval longer so there is more time for the litter to clump firmly. This is more economical when it comes to how quickly you go through litter. The built in lights are a nice feature as well. Someone suggested putting a dryer sheet over the carbon filter and changing it every couple of weeks, sounds like a good idea. We are using a conventional litter box now, but I think I am going to have to go to work on my husband to get a litter box 4. At $700 it will be a bit of a hard sell, and I do think the components should be of better quality and more durable for this price, but with my health issues I don't think we have any better choices.

This might be a good option for me when I move out of my parents' house, but all of my cats (Bingo, Russet and Mosey) go outside at the moment. I just don't know how Bingo will react to a robotic litter box (she's really skittish around noisy things, especially our little vacuum, also she's the only cat that would be moving with me since the two boys are barn cats).

When I had my darling kitty, he would actually wait for me to be there and he would go number 2, since he knew I would scoop it immediately after he was done. As for clumping litter, we never chose that; however, mine was a one-kitten household, and so, keeping the litter clean was something that was a high priority - so much so, that no one visiting my house knew I had a cat, unless they already knew. If I could afford it, I would try it. Not sure how long it actually lasts, but quite a realistic/practical/helpful invention. Kewl.

In the UK this sells for 950 USD equivalent, and only comes with 1 year warranty. You add the extra warranty on there and you're looking at a 1100$ product. I'd rather scoop my traditional boxes that cost me 10$ each

Hey, what about the fence? The model on the pictures seems to have a little fence but your in the video does not have it. I heard is important to avoid mess in the gap of the entry. Does it come right on the or needs to be buy separately?

It does come with a fence! Whether or not it's important depends on the cat. We keep it off and find that the litter-catching mat in front of the litter box is enough. But other people find it necessary for their cats.

This is an interesting concept. Does it exist something similar for us who use the more sustainable wood pellets? Pellets doesn't clumps when absorbing urine, rather it dissolves into smaller wood particles which in the end have to be filtered away.

Thanks for watching! About 8-10 pounds of litter is needed to keep it at the fill line. In between bag changings you may have to add a little litter to keep it at the fill line. In the long run it saves you litter. Also, we didn’t want the video to be too long, otherwise we would have added a section about deep cleaning (maybe a future video?) But in brief, Whisker recommends doing a deep clean at least once every 3 months. The globe removes easily, so you can just hose it down, let it dry, and it’s PURRfect again. 🐈

No, as long as you use a good quality clumping litter! The lower quality, cheapy litters are prone to smudging.

I love my cats more than ALL humans in my life with the exception of 3!!! That being said I would pay that much in a heartbeat for the one reason of them not having to step into a box with any waste in it, ever!!!! Would you wanna sit on a toilet that hasn’t been flushed since yesterday? That’s gross as hell and you’re not even coming in contact with what’s in it!!!! I don’t have the extra funds for this thing currently so starting today, the saving has begun! With 7 looks like I need almost 2K!!!! It is what it is since I don’t have the time to build em myself! I’ve got the workshop, tools, know how and materials even!!!! Time is way too precious and I unfortunately don’t have access to 40 hr days!

You can always look into refurbished ones to cut down the cost! Also, now that the 4 is out, the 3 is less expensive. The 3 is still a great one too. So that's another option. 🐈

I’d buy it for $100! $700 will put oil in my tank (we have oil heat) and keep us warm most of the winter. I don’t find it overwhelming to clean out my 2 cats litter boxes. It’s just like taking both my dogs out and picking up their poop! It’s part of have a cat…or 2!

Well the spiffy functions are worth it if looked at from different perspectives….. This thing keeps you constantly updated on all sorts of stuff!!! Having knowledge of this will cut vet visits dramatically!!! My vet is 70$ to walk through the door, so just 10 trips saved pays for the whole thing! Gives you peace of mind as well! Time is without any doubt the most precious and valuable thing there will ever be!!!! So every single minute you save from not having to scoop is worth MORE than the cost!!!! I just think everyone places way too much value on paper that can’t guarantee you happiness, health and love! My cats on the other hand DO give me these things on a daily basis so I will do ANYTHING possible to return that favor!!!!

Save yourself the hassle and avoid the Litter Robot 4. Shipping was very slow and the first unit arrived damaged! The replacement didn't even last a few months. Dealing with customer service is a joke; they're unresponsive, incompetent, and seem to have no interest in resolving issues. Don't expect any help if you encounter problems - they'll just give you the runaround
