Just wanted to add a comment about litter as a campervanner who regularly does a bit of wombling picking up other folks litter. We stayed at Coldingham Bay car park a few years ago. It was a mess with litter despite there being excellent bin and recycling facilities at the entrance. We picked up all the litter filling two bin liners leaving the place spotless. The next day the car park filled up with all the day trippers. After they left, the place was a tip again, with rubbish left in the middle of the car park where folk had just opened their door and dumped their rubbish. There is only one way in and out of that car park, and it’s right past the bins but the lazy gits couldn’t even be bothered to dispose of their rubbish properly when driving past.

We own two dogs and wouldn’t dream of dumping bags of shite willing nilly. Maybe a few bins wouldn’t go a miss in areas like these. I was up the same hill earlier this year, paying respects to my old regiment. Parked at the main car park and noticed the same dirty mess. Rubbish attracts rubbish, always has and always will. Great job of highlighting the litter problem I stayed in the aberfoyle forestry commission car park last month in my Motorhome there was beer cans and cardboard boxes laying around as I was picking the rubbish up a forestry commission van came in with a litter stick to do some rubbish picking and seen me picking up someone else’s litter gave me a nod so I’m sure the forestry commission know it’s not motor home camper van owners who are the culprits as I appreciate these park ups .

Forever picking up other people's dog poo as well as my own three dogs both local and on the open hills. So many dog owners advocate the ' flick away from the path' method but in my experience most just assume it will degenerate where it is by the path. Whether on grazing ground or not, it's disappointing and I will keep picking it up. Great video and the way ahead for our freedom to park up our vans in the countryside. Thanks Cameron

When I was doing television stuff I did two series for BBC2 called Wilderness Walks. I came up with the idea of doing some routes with a Chinese cook and calling them Wilderness Woks. The BBC high heid yins didn't even smile..

I’ve stayed the night in a forestry car park a few times near Oban . It’s ideal for catching the early morning ferries to the isles . I’m happy to report that I e not seen any mess left by any campers . Hopefully they keep this scheme going .

Totally agree about the need for more discreet aires hopefully this will discourage some of the terrible parking of camper vans in the Highlands .Litter seems to be growing problem again ,Mostly left by day trippers and dog walkers leaving dog mess bags everywhere Its disgusting ,

Your so lucky in Scotland with the access to land and ability to wild camp almost anywhere. Sadly England is still run by and for the landed gentry whom feel it their duty to own everything

@@craoutdoors6827 Indeed, although the laws differ with regards to sleeping in a campervan overnight. Certainly not the same as camping wild in a small tent.

Definitely think car owners are the biggest cause of litter. Antidotally I’ve heard campervans having litter placed deliberately outside them so they get the blame.

The ochils are lovely wee hills, often punching above thier height, particularly in winter. My house overlooks them, the office at the uni directly below Pendriech. I may have even cycled past you between the two in the morning...

Litter is almost always left by locals imo. Who in the camping fraternity eats Macdonalds or Dominoes? It appears there in the evening, the locals see vans parked and litter in the morning, put 2&2 together and reach 5!

The litter problem isn’t due to campervans / motorhomes. True some owners of these vehicles do leave litter but, if you visit a car park with height barriers, you are just as likely to see litter etc. Plus, campervans etc tend to have waste bins whereas cars don’t. It is a ‘British problem’ -you only need to compare our roadside verges to those in Europe. We are travel in Europe, especially France, and rarely see litter by the roadside. We see more in the 25 miles between the Tunnel and home than a 1000 mile trip in Europe typically.

@brianreay4104 Greece ,Italy, Portugal and Spain are terrible for litter problems. And park near the sea and the dunes and bushes are full of human waste , tissues and baby wipes. Sadly it isn't just a UK problem. And if you go out of Europe to Turkey and Morocco its even worse sadly. And sadly the vw size campers and cars definitely are the worse culprits . I see it every day .

Pendreich is just across the valley from me in Bannockburn and my friend started his working life at Pendreich farm in the late 50s. Dumyat is my local hill and I climb it several times a year. BTW last time I looked you had an Italian rig, when did you switch to the VW?

What I don't understand is a Dog owner will go to the effort of picking up their Dogs mess in a little bag. only to simple leave it hanging somewhere on just dumped on the floor. Surely if you have no intension of taking it away with you, why use a poo bag. those that drop litter are just simply irresponsible. Sometimes you may accidently drop litter, but to simply cast packaging away once they have consumed what ever highly process rubbish. I was always taught to put my rubbish in my pockets and bin it later. The later bit I often forgot and was told off by my Mum for not emptying my pockets, before my cloths in the laundry basket.

The problem is that you often don't find any place to dispose the waste. Local authorities should put some effort in offering possibilities waste within comfortable reach

Car drivers and small campers with no onboard facilities are the worst culprits of litter and toilet waste. Ironically those are the ones that can fit under height barriers etc and are often exempt from the restrictions throughout the UK. Easy to blame motorhomes etc though and of course because many councillors own or have their greasy fingers in the campsite pies it's beneficial for them to try and restrict off site overnight parking. That's why I do most of my motorhoming in Europe.

I'm a small camper!😢 I do, however, have a porta potty and recycle my waste. I mix 'wild' stopovers with campsites...contributing to local economies. Wherever I rome, I make an effort to litter pic. Whether it's a beach, or somewhere inland. Makes my blood boil to see litter anywhere! Can't afford a plush motorhome, so please don't blame us lesser mortals😘

@@1967GEOMAN Yes indeed. My campervan is pretty small - 4.96m. Like you I have a porta-potty which in fact makes me use campsites or at least find disposal points every three days or so. I would like to see all campervans made self-sufficient, with mandatory toilets.

But I'm a fulltime motorhomer I've witnessed many small camper owners peeing and crapping outside, not just in UK but throughout europe. And it's the car drivers that pull up eat their McDonald's etc or drink their takeaway coffee then it all gets dumped out the window. I didn't however say all small camper owners. But it doesn't change the fact the height restrictions often discriminate against larger vehicles using the dumping of waste etc as the reason.

On the subject of poor behaviour by others maybe you could do a video about abuse of Aires based on honesty boxes for payment and their facilities to highlight the issue :-( ???? We found out today Dave's Rest at Drumnadrochit has closed (hopefully temporarily) but it means we can't stop off there as our next move on :-( The number of good value for money sites is limited at this time of year as it is!

We already finance the forestry commission through our taxes why oh why do we have to pay yet again, this double and triple charging is completely out of control. They get enough from our taxes they should work within the budget they are given or reduce the wage bill of upper management
