I can only speak about the anime version so here it goes. In the past before Riki met The Little Buster, he met Aya. The next day a landslide happens and she is at near death. At this point her soul travels to the world that Kyousuke made into the form of Saya from a manga that she and Kyousuke liked to read but remember this world doesn't follow time like the real world does so its possible for people from the past or future to enter but its probably very rare. So in the end she was satisfied with her time in Kyousukes world she played one last time but this time she asked to win to get the treasure which she decided to be a Biological weapon. She and Riki enter the treasure room but Saya locks herself in a different room and holds a gun to her head, says goodbye to Riki cuz she loved him, and pulls the trigger. Now her soul returns to her body in the real world being woken up by her father in a hospital/cabin. She was most likely saved by her dad and was comatose for a few days. She wakes up and tells her "dream" she had while she was asleep and mentions that she had a partner that she loved whom her father said that the boy waiting for her could love her just as much. So she doesn't die and is alive! After Riki parents die he forgets about her and thats when the little busters come in and help Riki. After the bus accident he remembers her and she goes to his school thus she becomes the 13th member of the little busters. This is just my interpretation of how things go so in my head its a happy ending. PS you can see her in the final scene of Ep 8 of little busters EX where everyone is together PSS Also the scene where she is lying in the grass at the end when Riki wakes her up proves of her continued existence

I've been thinking/looking for a proper explanation since I finished the episode just an hour ago, but I kept missing something. When you mentioned that Riki might have forgotten her because of his parents death (Which makes perfect sense actually) and how he remembered her after the bus accident in the real world after the resets it all made perfect sense to me and I know you posted this a year ago but I love you for it lmao. Thank you for making me love this show so much more than I already can, it's just brilliant.

This show inspired me and made me realise even more about how precious friendships and family are and made me treasure the people I know on a level that I could not imagine and touched me on a very personal level.I am happy that Saya is alive and well in the ending and that she is with Riki and the Little Busters.I wish I can be reincarnated in the world of Little Busters,go to the same school as them,be in the same class as them, be their friend and finally be a part of the Little Busters and do things that are beyond the ordinary

No problem m8, and the time when he forgets Aya, she might have traveled with her father because he is a traveling doctor. When she was a teen she may have gotten the freedom to return to where she used to live which is where Riki is and had fond memories of him.

I really enjoy Saya’s route, I just finished watching every LB’s and I never teared up this much compare to other Key shows. I enjoy all shows from Key but I personally enjoy LB’s the most. I even binge watch all of them on March 2022 in less than 2 weeks because I love it so much. LB’s is underrated and I’ll always remember it to my heart.

Actually, the ending is an interpretative ending. The viewer chooses which scenario he/she wants to believe. Either Saya survives the landslide and is with Riki in real life or Saya ends up in another dream world that maybe Kyousuke made. The song Saya's song is a very beautiful one and if you have the time, read the lyrics too.

Every time I watch Little Busters It got me thinking, what if there was one more character arc where the character is a complete opposite of Riki, like a scenario that (he/she) also lost (his/her) parents but no one reached out to (him/her) resulting in (him/her) gaining a philosophy to only rely on (his/her) strength to overcome (his/her) problems, and not to rely on others or having a disbelief in the concept of friendship only because he never experience it in (his/her) life. I say his, him etc. because it would be interesting if it was a male character who had an arc like this, or you know a female.

I'd honestly would have loved for Moon and Terra to have never existed. And if they HAD to exist,leaving things at Moon would have sufficed, because the events of Terra were just such a contrast with the rest of the game that they felt like I was playing a different game altogether. In Moon you have the whole gang fighting to "rewrite" the point of no return and fix the world. In Terra you just have a bastard protagonist who's literally mind-controlled into helping Terra-Kagari, who's just a bitch all in all.

Some people say that Maeda-san loved Saya so much, he made an entire series about her... or better her predicament. We call this series "Angel Beats". (Only half kidding, Maeda-san really started to go into the very sad ends where loss is inevitable after he wrote Sayas route. Before that, he wrote happy ends after a terrible time, but after Saya he focused very much on inevitable death and loss) Her ending breaks the rules that Little Busters established. Time only reverts back to the place where you are destined to die, and only just before you enter the dreamworld. (This is why the happy end in the VN works) Saya returning to her father can not have happened, as she was buried in by a cavein. So she is probably in another dreamworld, reincarnated in a different world (Clannad style), or something in between. Her returning to the world of the original Little Busters is not really possible according to the rules set up. EDIT: Bah, people pointed out that the VN explained a possibilty. She traveled back in time, sent her memories to her younger self, and avoided the cavein. This is actually talked about in the VN, that she is together with Riki, but not with his current self. So a different timeline, or different world like Clannad. Which also means that she is still dead in the timeline Riki wakes up.

This is so fucking wrong. Saya was a real girl who died and her spirit found Kyosuke's dreamworld and manifested due to her regrets. What's unclear is what happens to her in the end after she leaves the dreamworld, but it is hinted that she was just thrown back in time to when she was a child. I mean, RIki goes back in time to fix his narcolepsy so this is tame in comparison. The VN also hints (and the anime basically spells out) that Riki and "Saya" knew each other when they were kids, back before Riki lost his parents. It also implies that Riki finds Saya later on and introduces her to the rest of the Little Busters in the real world. Of course this is all implied by the CG's and Kyousuke's words.

Kyousuke was too busy being "dad" for everyone. He had to take care of Rin since they were young too.The whole idea of the Little Busters was actually Kyosuke's idea so that Rin would finally get some friends.

Riki falls in love with all of them at some point due to how Kyosuke structured the dream world. He would always wipe out Riki's romantic feelings and "reset the world", leaving only Riki's feelings for Rin and the feeling that he "helped" someone. It's a little manipulative of him but he also never expected anyone else to survive but Riki and Rin. So he wanted Riki to grow stronger emotionally and to be there for Rin. Canonically the idea is that at the end of Refrain (and EX) Riki and Rin only remember their feelings for each other and are a couple. Of course it's vague enough that you can theoretically believe he falls in love with someone else (or no one). In fact, Kud Wafter is a what-if scenario that assumed that after Refrain he grew closer to Kud and they became a couple. Adittionally out of all the girls we know for a fact Riki was friends with Kud, Haruka and Yuiko before the accident. And we know Kud had a crush on Riki before the accident even happened.

@@gabriel_icxcnk Plus Kyosuke keeps erasing his memories and resetting the world, it's basically like going through different timelines. If anyone is at fault here it is Kyosuke and the girls themselves for abusing the situation to get it on with Riki for a bit. =p BTW yeah, I never stopped to think of it much but the girls are certainly abusing the situation a bit to get some loving from Riki. Yuiko even tries to "kidnap" Riki by creating a time loop.

The thing about this season EX is that in another manga series, Saya gets to actually bond over time with everyone else in Little Busters! But the manga and anime show different alternative story lines (since there's not a route for Saya in the visual novel)

I know this is a late answer but the character of Saya was originally created for the 18+ expansion of Little Busters!, called Little Busters! EX. It's not something the manga or anime came up with. Aside from adding the new character of Saya, they also upgraded Kanata and Sasami to heroine roles (along with adding H-scenes to the old routes). So yeah, the VN is the source material.

This ending has quite a few flaws, cause with Saya okay all along, Riki wouldn't have been alone since he would have her and her father who would have no doubt adopted him after he lost his family. That means there's a good chance Riki wouldn't have met the others like he originally did (or at all), and he may not have even been at the location he was to meet them in the first place. So the Riki of the past should have a very different history than the one we know in the present, and Saya of present cannot exist because that timeline considers her dead. And if it was the past affecting the future which is why there is a present Saya at the end of EX ep 8, then once more, Riki I feel shouldn't have the same history as before, cause a good chance things wouldn't have happened like before, and he might have even traveled the world with Saya and her father. Plus with those two helping him through his parent's death instead of him bearing it all alone, his trauma would be lessened since he would still have those who care for and would likely take him in long before he gets so bad he'll reject any hardship. I know they wanted a happy end, but no matter which way, as it is, it makes no sense in my opinion. All they had to do was say or imply Saya being okay by the end in the past made a second timeline where Riki is with her over the Little Busters, while the present isn't affected by the past, therefore its own timeline as well, but then that would still leave the fact Saya obviously can't exist in the present, because this present would still keep the history that she did die (even though she never actually did die, her mind traveling to the future means that history will think she died). That aside, personally I thought this arc was very out of place and didn't even feel like it belonged in the series at all (enough that I just can't view it as anything but a weird what if unconnected to the series). Not even getting into how Riki acts too different from how he actually does in the series, or the fact he uses a gun is just plain weird among other things. I don't mind who liked it, but I didn't like it personally. Too many issues, and it just doesn't feel like a part of the series or belongs at all. Sasami's was a little weird with the cat making a fake world, but it still felt like Little Busters and something that had a place in it.

Basicamente, a Saya acabou deixando o Riki livre por causa do objetivo do Kyousuke. E em troca disso, o Kyousuke criou um mundo dos sonhos somente pra ela (igual como aconteceu com a Kurugaya) onde ela pode brincar com o Riki pra sempre

SbrigadeSO To answer your question on why she shot herself in the first place... In a nut shell. It was because it was part of her agreement with Kyousuke. She got one more try, win or lose, to get to the end of her story and per the agreement she had to leave his world after that. If I recall he basically let her past the next time. So long as she was there Kyousuke couldn't finish his plan because she was an unexpected piece and her being with Riki was creating a time loop that stalled everything out. So having reached the end and agreeing to leave she killed herself and the world was reset to the timeline Kyousuke created, which is the standard events from LB and Refrain.
