You know what's more sad about this? It's about HOW MUCH Kurugaya loved Riki. I still haven't watched the anime but in Visual Novel.... She really tried to fight the fate: -She literally carried the "world" by herself for so long just to be with Riki, which even Kyousuke couldn't maintain it by himself. -Even when she started to forget everything, she still choosed to be with Riki. -And that ending when she smiled while playing the piano, she was there sitting there for a long long time waiting for Riki.

That ending seems to be entirely not canon considering it contradicts the state of events of the post Refrain routes. It would especially contradict Kanata's route where it is hinted all the girls remember liking Riki but it's kind of hinted he still pays attention to Rin. It's honestly just a "here's your good ending, happy now?" cop out scene.

Dinesh Chandar In the game they said you can avoid this ending but in the anime I really don't know. a long time has passed and there's no word if little busters is coming back. if there is I might have missed the announcement. we have to wait and see this ending has a special place in my heart.

First off, the anime did an extremely poor job of adapting Kurugaya's route - the fact that they crammed an entire route in less than 3 episodes while the other heroines had at least 4 episodes or more (like Kud did >.>) is insulting. Second, the only real way to experience Kurugaya's route is by reading the Visual Novel - the fact that you already know "The Secret of the World" courtesy of the anime should help you understand the route better - trust me, a lot of readers wrote off Kurugaya's route as being shallow because of the fact that her route ties heavily into "Refrain". Basically, what happens at the end of Kurugaya's route is a prelude to Refrain. Third, the anime f*cks up with two crucial aspects: - it heavily mixes in Rin into Kurugaya's route - that is extremely wrong! In the VN, Kurugaya discovers the selfish nature of love and she wants to defy Kyousuke and her own death just to be with Riki. Nowhere did Kurugaya even mention Rin after Riki confessed to her 3 times. It goes without saying that Kurugaya wants Riki all for herself. Same with Riki: one he falls in love with Kurugaya, there are several scenes where all he can think about is her. Rin doesn't even exist anymore. The added scenes with jealous and sad Rin sprinkled throughout "Refrain" are again insulting towards Kurugaya's character - an insult that the producers of the anime make 😑 - Kurugaya's simple "I like you" is incredibly shallow and insignificant in the anime. You can't imagine the weight, impact and emotional value her confession has in the VN, given that she only voices it during the True End of her route and furthermore, she uses the exact same words that Riki used when he confessed to Kurugaya. Lastly, Kurugaya's story ends with the True Ending of the VN. Nothing more after that. While her story is, IMO, KEY's absolute best romance story, KEY didn't continue to work on her character because domestically, Kurugaya was not as popular as Kud. KEY has this nasty habit of making popularity polls for their characters after launching a Visual Novel, and given the results of said poll, they may choose to make a spinoff VN with the second most popular heroine in that poll, in case the Main Heroine (Rin, in this case) was nr 1. This is why KEY made Kud Wafter and Tomoyo After - those two were the second top rated heroines in the popularity poll, according to the Japanese. It's common knowledge that the Japanese are more into loli and weak female characters, so it's obvious a strong, self-sufficient girl like Kurugaya would intimidate them. If you haven't already, watch "Angel Beats" and think of Tenshi/Tachibana Kanade as being Kurugaya, because the two characters have an extreme amount of things in common when it comes to personalities - the only thing that differs fundamentally is their design. I consider "Angel Beats" as being the spiritual successor to "Little Busters", where KEY mixed 95% of Kurugaya's personality with a loli character design and obtained one of the most popular characters ever in Tachibana Kanade.

im also pissed that kurugaya is not the one riki ends up with. why would they even chose to think a loli is more popular than kurugaya. she seemed the perfect type of person for Riki since the chemistry between them is the most plausible one. honestly watching the anime, i didnt expect any romance to develop since season 1 because of how they handled the story. besides kurugaya, blue haired book girl seems a perfect fit for him and not Rin. not hating on Rin, its just she didnt feel like she loved the MC that much.

@@LeonGun8 I know it's kinda late now, but the reason Kyousuke did that is that everyone beside Riki and Rin was currently unconscious and stuck inside the bus. While unconscious, everyone had decided to make that world for Riki and Rin. However, Riki still managed to fall in love with Kurugaya in her route, that's why we have this ending.

In my very first runthrough of the VN, her ending indicated for the first time that there was something very wrong going on. Not with the characters, but with the world around them. My first non-Rin route... Rins route is usually recommended to be the first and the last..... was Kotori, which didn't have anything super natural besides slight hints at their star gazing. And since ther is no Kud-Ending video, I say it here: Her ending is acutally super interesting in the second playthrough (and a complete mess the first time around as nothing makes sense), as you realize THAT SHE KNOWS SHE IS IN A DREAM, and that her mother died in real life. The whole deus-ex-machina only ever makes sense once you realized that the jumbled mess was the parts of the spacecraft that remained after the accident happened where her mother was on board. She has it to free herself with it, even though it didn't happen in the route. (Again this makes sense as it is a dream, her mother died in real life). Just wanted it to mention again as her route was one of my least favourite the first time around while my absolute favourite the second time around. The knowledge about her story works so much in her favour.

I really recommend getting the Visual Novel too, if you find it online and a translation its really worth it, especially Haruka's route. I just finished Kurugaya's route and I cried like I cried here; also, Little Busters Perfect Edition is having an official release on Steam! So you can buy that, and I highly recommend it.
