Little car, Big Hill! TWC the Invacar climbs Shelsley Walsh hillclimb!

Yes, my 493cc invalid carriage tackles the fierce slopes of the fabled Shelsley Walsh hillclimb - which has been in continuous use since 1905.
This video covers the entire weekend, including some of the drive over. It also includes some bonus Mighty Dacia content!

They used to build those things right near where I lived in Hounslow in the 60s. We once saw one towing a two berth caravan along the A30 near Heathrow! The engine was screaming and the nosewheel kept lifting off the road! The look of astonishment form everyone that saw it was priceless!

That looked like fantastic fun Ian! Small world: one of my neighbors in the small village in NW Spain where I live emigrated to the UK and worked for AC in the sixties and seventies... on the Invacar assembly line. He was really surprised when he found out that I knew what an Invacar was and how it looked like (nothing similar existed in Spain). I told him about TWC and your videos and he kind of scratched his head wondering about the whole idea!

Really LOVED this ! TWK is such a "sporting" little car, I just love your angle on things Ian. Never dreamed I'd meet such antics in anyone other than myself! Don't normally reveal this, but safely rode many Triumph and BSA motorcycles for years without incident. But a BMW Isetta landed me off work for 6 months and 50 years later I'm still carrying the surgical steel around !

Learned to drive at 6 years in my dads Invacar predecessor the Tippin (2stroke) in the late 60s and progressed to an Invicar but think it was badged as AC? ho, what fun thanks Ian for the memory and keeping TWC where it should be, on the road / track.

Last time I saw an Invacar on, or at least at the side, of the road was about thirty years ago in my home town. Something catastrophic must have happened to the engine, as it had caught fire and the body had completely melted. Thankfully the driver was unharmed.

I wonder if it’s not about the right time for a modernized version of the invacar, perhaps with a modest small hybrid drive and regenerative braking system and far stronger and impact absorbing composite body. Cheap to own and run. It really was an idea that was so forward thinking. Also love the yellow vauxhall firenza parked just behind tuk, I had a firenza like that one with a ohc 1600 that was replaced with a ohc 2000 from my dads add VX490 with a 2 stage overdrive gearbox when the original dropped a valve.

That was fun! Pity you can't get the owner of TWC's sister car to come to some of these events and give you some fun competition. I think the only cure for people not hearing you coming at these events is an easily swappable sports exhaust (if such a thing exists). I love the Jetsons car! Smiling all the way. Cheers.

Had the same problem of pedestrians not hearing you in my old Hillman Imp, particularly in one car park I used a lot. Solution was to switch on the rather noisy heater blower which lived behind the grill below the bumper.

Before anyone asks, behind the grille was also the horn. Not a little 'Excuse me' one like on Tuk but a proper windtone pair, use of which in this circumstance would have led to large dents in the bonnet.
