For all of us out there who miss that feeling. Disney, Ghibli, Bluth, Warner Bros., Fleischer, even Fox. Pour a few out.

Back then, you could always tell if a movie was Disney or Dreamworks because of the art style. You can tell that prince of Egypt was dreamworks. You can tell that mulan was Disney because of the art. Now, the art varies to “fit different expectations and needs” but we expect a Disney or dreamworks movie to look like a Disney or dreamworks movie.

I happened to be looking up Bluth's wikipedia article the other day because I was talking to my girlfriend about his work. It looks like he has a new studio that he's trying to use to bring back hand animated work with! I really REALLY hope that he's successful; beautiful hand animation is an almost dead art at this point.

And puss in boots and Shawn sheep movie they are all great totally s tier. I can argue that new animation is better in term of lore and story telling. You just got to search for good stuff

I remember when there used to be worth to the stories, an actual message or something to learn from. There was actual passion and love in the art as a way for people to express themselves... these days, I can only liken most media to fast food. To put it simply, it's a quick fix for entertainment, but it's bad for your mind and soul, just as fast food is bad for your body. Bad for attention span and bad for individuality, among other things simply because it's made to be that way. It wants to appeal to you more than it wants to tell you something, as recondite as it is to say.

It's really nice being reminded just how fluid Don Bluth's animation style is! He'd actually rotoscope some of the fabric/clothing characters wore (he'd get reference footage from recording actors in similar fabrics), and you can tell whenever Anastasia twirls.

I agree, Rick and Morty's animators by season 6 clearly feel more comfortable with the art style and have a strong control over Harmony Pro (which can be difficult to use due to its nesting structure, despite it being considered an industry standard). I'm excited for season 7.
@reidboggs43449 ай бұрын
Because the animation aspect of it is garbage.
@Katy133 Жыл бұрын
I'm... kinda unsure why Rick and Morty was shown at the beginning as one of the _depressing_ examples? From an animation standpoint, Rick and Morty has never looked as dynamic as it has now (season 6). There's more camerawork (instead of static shot-reverse-shot), the use of 3D models mixed into the 2D style is pretty seamless (read as: not conspicuous), and the animators are given enough freedom to experiment with the framerate (using more frames to create more fluid/slowmo moments for some scenes). Rick and Morty has some amazing crowd shots with every character in the background looking like a different alien. They'll go through the trouble to create and rig a unique character just for a 2 second gag and never use that character again (the giant winter wolf). It makes me excited to see where the series will go from there and what other ways they will push the animation software (Toon Boom Harmony has never looked so good). Also, one of the show's 2 studios was able to unionise for better working conditions, which will (hopefully!) help animators working in the industry.

Rick and Morty post season 2 is so bad
@Katy133 Жыл бұрын
@@KotoCrash Rick is an absolute monster in S2-3. But that's part of why Rick and Morty post season 4 is so good! I just... I like that by S6 Rick realises that, while he can't ever "redeem" himself, he can try to do better and be better as a person. (Which "is work, not an adventure.") It's why he eventually agrees to go to therapy despite his painful relapses. Something that season 1-3 Rick would never have done. In s3, he basically said he'd rather turn himself into a literal vegetable to avoid going.
@KotoCrash Жыл бұрын
@@Katy133 No, Im not saying its bad because Rick is a monster. Im saying its bad because its bad.
@Katy133 Жыл бұрын
@@KotoCrash Could you like... give a description instead of just saying "thing bad"? I've already given my own supporting evidence and examples on why I think Rick and Morty has quality animation. I'm not trying to say that your opinion is invalid (just as I'm sure you don't think that mine is invalid), I'm just trying to give you a different perspective to chew on about why others might have different opinions about the same show, and the good parts it objectively _does_ have. Framing the show as just bad just kinda kneecaps our ability to have a fun convo about stuff we like/don't like, and how our own animation work (and the animation industry) can improve and learn from past shows, ones we both like and don't like. tldr: Remember that "it's bad" is not the same as "I hate it."

@@Katy133 Too many ways to count. The over reliance on gore, the flip flopping of character development, the self serious tone it dadcantly dips into all the time, how old the "Im mr blim blam" jokes have gotten, the lazy winks to the audience to show they "know" its bad, the animation quality has never been great, but worst of all Id have to say its just not funny. Oh and the lead writer/VA assaulted his wife.
