imo it is far better than the original and defies what it means to make a sequel. 2049 uses the source material to achieve unprecedented depth by tackling head-on the one aspect of the original movie that was elusive and succeeding in making the viewer surrender to the replicant's humanity.

What's interesting about both movies is that 2049 was praised by critics, yet it bombed in the box office due to the lack of interest during release. While Blade Runner was praised by viewers, yet trashed by critics during its release. Regardless of what people think of these movies, both are masterpieces in my opinion (Directors cut feels right for the original).

@@aexcezz9573 I like Daniel Plainview, but Anton Chigurh is the more remarkable case study I think. Given how rare it is to come by authentically threatening villains. Also no country is thematically more interesting. Though I'll give you that both films are good enough where any preference can easily boil into a matter of artistic taste. I think both films certainly achieved what they were going for.

I still hold the objective correct opinion that Black Hawk Down was a fuckin masterpiece and was done amazingly for what it was trying to represent. @@cabnbeeschurgr6440 Non-linear plotlines have been crazy popular for decades already and Christopher Nolan has been making them since 1998 ("Following" being his first), with Tenet being by far the worst movie he's made (so far)! I've seen literally hundreds of movies with non-linear narration, and Tenet is among the worst. Besides, I've never mentioned non-linear storytelling, since it's common in movies nowadays. What makes Tenet so bad is the simple plot made needlessly convoluted and stretched out, the terribly pretentious dialogues, the gratuitious use of shaky-cam and quick-cuts, all of which serve the purpose to hide how it's really just a stupid good-vs-evil action blockbuster movie that's been done many times before.

I as a counterexample understood everything relevant from the single time I've watched the whole movie, and in fact I've found certain "plot twists" to be outrageously obvious and yet explained by the very movie in the most blatant and crude way possible. Please, I dare you to explain what's so "convoluted" and difficult to understand in that idiotic scene when Kat inexplicably starts talking how she saw a woman jump off the villain's boat, and then the movie actually shows the woman jumping (it's edited so clumsily and ruins the pacing) and you can blatantly see that the woman is actually a distressed Kat, which obviously announces how future Kat will travel back in time to that moment. Why the f*** did past Kat inexplicably start talking about that in the first place? Also, Neil's death scene is almost unwatchable from all the shaky cam and quick cuts and clumsy camera angles. Even Cristopher Nolan realized that scene is not adequate on its own because he added another scene where the characters plain out explain what happened in that scene. So much for any subtlety and nuance. Other movies such as _Deja Vu_ , _American Psycho_ and Nolan's _Prestige_ have secret plot-twists that are only hinted at throughout the movie with a lot of uncertainty, but that change the whole plot if you realize and believe in them (e.g. it's hinted in _Prestige_ that Angier actually died when he first tried the trick and the person doing all the treachery afterwards isn't even human). _Tenet_ is so "subtle", 30% of its runtime is just characters mumbling lazy exposition.
