I'll remember this demonstration of yours when I start using my air brush. lol, reminds me that in my high school years ago, the chemistry class had a small explosion because someone measured chemicals wrong and tossed them together! 😉 Consistency matters. (no, I wasn't in the class. But in the aftermath, I saw the smoke come downstairs from 3rd floor to where I was on the 2nd floor. In my chem class later that day, we were MUCH more careful.)

I use the cups and the pipettes and I use a scale to weigh my paint and thinner!!!

That’s very interesting! This will be an issue especially if you add hardner in the mix! I will definitely be using 3 cups from now on !

Cool demonstration. I've always done it using the one cup method. Now I see why things didn't come out right. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the info and the demo, Kreg. I imagine that makes your pain jobs a lot more consistent and fewer random outcomes. I did some math and that extra 1ml or so, in scale, is about an ounce and an ounce in a 1:1 auto paint mix is a BIG deal. I think I'm going to start "wasting" those 2 cent cups.

Interesting demo. I guess rhat's why I never measure when mixing my paint. Since I use mostly craft paints, as long as I mix to a 2% milk consistency, it sprays very well for me. When I worked as an industrial painter, I used a Zahn cup to get the proper mix. You are very much on point though, even slight changes to your mix ratio will affect the appearance of the paint. This video should be a great benefit to those just starting out air brushing👍

Good point. Never thought about the pipe totes & cups being off. I’ll definitely have to check myself. Thanks Kreg👍👍

Very interesting. I never measure in the cup. I measure based on how many ml i pull into the pippette. So, I've never noticed the cups are off.

Very interesting. I consider myself a novice air brusher. That's okay your method of using MCW paint helped me immensely. Thanks Kreg

Very good information, this will be helpful to many of us, maybe we could even paint almost, partially, in the same zip code, as well as you do! Thanks for sharing this tip.

I use a good digital scale that goes down to 1ml this way I never have an issue mixing all the components perfectly.
@kregskorner88513 ай бұрын
The scale would be a good investment, I usually do two mixes per paint jobs, nice to keep it consistent..

Another great instructional. I opened my new air brush and used MCW lacquer. I'm saving this video like I did with your enamel V lacquer video. I feel like the lacquer sprayed a little rough and dry. I know I didn't prep how I should, and it was my first time. There's a video of it that I'll post in the future, I'm sure I'll get hammered on. Do you ever thin lacquer?
@kregskorner88513 ай бұрын
Thanks, Thats awesome your using the airbrush, everyone out there will tell you the first couple tries don't go as planned,I have only used the MCW lacquer a few times, mostly all enamels, I do however use Tamiya Lacquers, I also thin them 50/50.

I ran into this issue when trying to mix acrylic resin, to cast small parts using these cups. Many times i would end up with parts that wouldn't cure. I ended up switching to Rx bottles that were straighter, and i marked my own lines. It's a shame because that's the measuring cup the mfg includes with the resin and they know it's not right
@kregskorner88513 ай бұрын
Makes you think when they include the cup the complete product was was never tested, I started saving medicine cups for this, could never keep them on hand long enough.. Have a good one Pappy!

Use a scale and do it by weight.
@modelbuildingcorner3 ай бұрын
Since I'm starting out mixing paint for the airbrush this is an eye opener. However have you tested from the opposite end. What if the 2.5 mark is wrong? Not trying to be an ass. But just curious.
@kregskorner88513 ай бұрын
I have tried different ways, just don't have another source to measure it with, to see if the 2.5 is correct. Noticed all this when filling with the pipits that increments didn't match, thought it was an interesting topic.. Have a good one Joe!
@paulkrause50283 ай бұрын
Since MCW is ready to spray why are you adding thinner?
@kregskorner88513 ай бұрын
I mainly use the MCW enamels, only there lacquers come pre mix, I should start using more of their lacquer's, they do dry a-lot faster.. Plus it is nice there premixed for you. Have a good one Paul!
@wombat_models3 ай бұрын
Yeah, those style of cups and pipettes are not scientific grade volumetric measures. They will all involve a degree of error/imprecision. Much better to go by weight, as some have noted, if you are after a higher level of precision and repeatability.
@kregskorner88513 ай бұрын
Your right on that, I should get a scale, most of my paints involve a second mix. I like to know that first and second batch shoots the same.. Have a good one Wayne!
