After a while the flesh began to rot off my bones. Over the course of a month, I was nothing but bones. At first I was afraid of my skeletal appearance, until Halloween that is. I would run around the hospital yelling things like, "I got a joke to tickle your funny bone" or "slap me some skin" followed by a "nyahahaha"! Maybe that box wasn't so bad after all.

This makes me wonder if the previous man was actually dead. I mean, think about it. The end suggests that the main character is alive, even without a pulse and while his body is rotting away. Much like a zombie, if you will. I guess somehow the ashes of the older man infected this guy and caused him to befall the same fate, but what if the older man wasn't dead? He could have been passed out, suffering from this disease of rotting alive, and they burned him to ash without knowing. If you checked for a pulse, there wouldn't be one. Plus, if this is some coincidence, it took 4 days for the older man to 'die', 3 days for the main character to get to the hospital, where he probably lost a pulse on the forth at the rate he was deteriorating. Zombie like diseases do exist, though nothing like this.
