That’s exactly what he is doing, but I don’t think he recognizes it yet. Silverbacks often smell the butts of their wives and children to check on their health. Thank goodness us humans don’t have to go around smelling each other’s butts as animals do.

Tayari sieht heute so traurig und nachdenklich aus. Sie ist auch so liebevoll heute mit Ringo. Ungewöhnlich. Sie wird doch nicht schwanger sein? Weiß das jemand? 🤔 Klein 💞🐒Ringo💞 will einen Gesundheitsvorsorge bei ihr machen, weil er es wohl spürt, dass etwas mit seiner Tante nicht stimmt. Aber Jabali verhindert es. "Nein, kein check, das ist meine Mutter" und blockiert ihr Hinterteil. ☺️😄

I don’t think Tayari can go in estrus right now. She is still breastfeeding Jabali. Most female gorillas don’t go back into estrus until their baby is 3 to 4 years of age. Though some primates in captivity go into estrus earlier than gorillas in the wild. Tayari went into estrus at a young age and she’s one month younger than Iriki.

@@MegUSN52 Danke für deine Antwort. Ja, das kann sein. Aber die Familie wurde in Zoos geboren, also nicht mehr "wild". Das Verhalten von Tayari im Video kam mir nur sehr zurückgezogen und gedankenverloren vor, deshalb wäre es auch eine Möglichkeit, dass sie bereits schwanger ist, weil sie mit Ringo so schön umgegangen ist. Oder sie hat ein anderes Problem, das wir nicht kennen. Naja, sagen wir halt, dass sie ihre Tage hat. Vielleicht werden wir es noch herausfinden oder sie beruhigt sich wieder. Wir werden sehen. ☺️🕊️💚

here’s what another viewer was told when they inquired about pregnancy during a mating video 4 months ago : “The Zoo has not yet planned to let Tayari and Iriki have a baby again, so they are both on contraception”. Little Jabali has at least another 1 1/2 years to go (he will be 2 years old this month) before he is weaned completely. I personally have not noticed any changes in Tayari body to indicate a pregnancy. F/Y/I there has been some cases of female gorillas getting pregnant while on contraceptives but it’s a very rare occurrence.

Female gorillas don’t usually go into estrus (regardless of birth control) until their young is 3 to 4 years of age. Female primates in captivity have sometimes been going into estrus sooner than their counterparts out the in wild, but it’s still not the norm. Tayari went into estrus and became pregnant with Jabali at a younger age than most female gorillas, but I don’t believe she’s pregnant especially if the zoo has her on birth control.
