This song from the 1980's was posted on my old web site (Farmboy Inventor) back in the 90's. The following is the copy that I used related to the song:
"Back in the early 1980's, my friend Tim and I spent quite a bit of time hanging out at First Avenue on the weekends. When my friend asked the girl we had nicknamed Little Hitler to dance she said, "I don't dance with men, I dance alone." This, along with the way she danced (like she was stomping on cockroaches) worked its way into a song I was working on.
While I was living in Northern California in the mid 80's a guy that I had met through a friend of mine suggested that I make a low budget video for a couple of my songs. He had graduated from UCLA film school and thought we could do it for very little money. I sent him virtually every song I had ever written and we picked out two that we would work on.
At this same time, I was working at a small print shop in Chico CA and my fellow printer (Percy) was a drummer that appeared on a local Country Western television show called the Morris Taylor show. He also drummed for a local country western band. His real interest was in Jazz but there was not much of that to be found in the small college town.
Anyway, he was interested in helping me put down a drum track for a couple of my songs. This would at least give the songs for the proposed video a little bit more of a professional sound. So, one weekend when Percy's wife was out of town I went up the hill to Paradise CA with a six pack of Dr. Pepper and my four track.
It took a lot longer to put down the drum tracks for the two songs than I thought it would. We had to set up the drums and get the mike in the right place. Percy asked me at the start if I wanted the drums to have a modern rock sort of sound or a 60's surf sound. For the Little Hitler song, I opted for the 60's surf beat, being a big fan of instrumental surf bands.
After putting the drum track down, I ended up re-recording the guitar and vocal parts and adding a simple bass line.
It was neat to have a couple of my songs filled out with drums. One night, I saw television show called Night Flight, which was a mix of animation and music and odd assorted things. I sent them a tape with a copy of two of my songs and a short note I had written on a manual typewriter saying that I was going to make a video of one of the songs on the tape and asked if the show would be interested in airing it.
I got a response back with a handwritten note on the back of my typed one. "Cool Tunes dude." He went on to suggest that if I made a video of one of the songs that I do it for "Little Hitler" as the other one, while meant to be humorous" was somewhat politically incorrect. I guess if anything, I had had expected a form letter from the show. It surprised me that it was just a handwritten note from some Californian punk. But, I guess that's the kind of person that works for shows like that and they had no real reason to impress me.
Much to my disappointment, a video was never made. But, I am glad I was able to work with Percy and make a couple of my amateur songs a little less amateur."
