Yes this is a true story. There are also lot of stories telling about the multiverse theory. There is a story in which a king went to Brahma and when he returned to earth he show that eras were passed. He asked Brahma what happened to his time then I told him that time is different for different places . And there are lot of stories on this concept which were made thousands of years ago. And science found this maybe some years ago .

As complex as the concept of multiverse is, similarly the different Puranas states Vishnu as supreme in Vishnu Purana and Shiva as supreme in Shiv Puran both are devotees of each other in their respective puranas. Lord Brahma is more of a constant in between the Trinity. He appears in both puranas. He is supreme in his own manner but isn't worshipped.

Your Question at last is a topic of a confusion which arise among many people. Actually in one universe their reside Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva as Creator, Preserver and Destroyer.... and none of them are actually superior or inferior ... all are equal with their own duty .But There is a Supreme lord called "Maha Vishnu" who control all the universes. But the brahma, vishnu or shiva of one universe doesn't know the truth of other universes. Krishna was actually the incarnation of "Maha Vishnu " himself which makes him superior than the vishnu of one universe. Many People doesn't know that Krishna is superior than Lord Vishnu. As we say lord Vishnu is the preserver. There are long texts which I would need to reference to explain in detail , but if I were to say it in a line , the fact is that though there is a creator and a creation , there is also continuous chaos and stability . So, as you know lord Vishnu is referred as the preserver , so he is the one who maintains this stability , and for brahma can be considered a designer, or the one who brought the blue print to existence , it’s lord Vishnu who keeps the creation alive and prevents it from falling apart.
