I agree... I also love the music... There is something unique about these old black and white movies... Something "magical"... It's sad to think about that most people lived in so horrible conditions back then...

This is one of my favorite films of all time. Freddie Bartholomew was such a great little actor. His Wikipedia page is an interesting read. Also, Delores Costello, who played "Dearest" is the grandmother of actress Drew Barrymore.

Thank you. This was the best version ever. The cast from beginning to end were all brilliant actors. Despite all the advances and technological wonders there is little to compare with the excellence of the films, actors and all those behind the scenes of the golden age of Hollywood. Dolores Costello still had that quality she had in silent films. Magnificent. Only wish it had been longer. Cheers

Totally agree with you Globalman. I enjoy the movies of the 40's and 50's more than those of today with all the technology. Today the story lines are overworked by actors using obscenity, nudity and vulgarity. I am 60 years young but enjoy movies of my parents generation much more.

Little Lord Fauntleroy (1936) [Drama] [Family] This movie is one of my personal huge favourites; I have been a fan of the movies of early times because of all our movies today are based on those of the past. I found it by accident at one of the dollar stores, scooped it up, it was in VHS I have played and played so many times. It does not matter if it is black and white, it is the love story, that turns the movie into colour every time. Enjoy this movie. It is going to become addictive to you, your family and your friends. I’ve always loved this movie, used to watch it on daytime TV in LA with my grandmother, who used to tell me stories of when SHE first saw certain movies, silents, early talkies, the rest. What a gift! My favorite is and was Peter Ibbetson, with Gary Cooper, during the early 20th century it was a book, appeared on stage, in a silent and finally in the Cooper talkie. It was a very popular story but no more. The print even seems to have disappeared!

I read the book years ago and was moved to tears by it. Of course that was to be expected from Francis Hodges Burnett who also wrote The Little Princess another tear jerker.I did think it was a bit melodramatic in some areas, as was common for the day, especially in family dramas. I expected the movie would be the same. However, I found it was not nearly as over the top melodramatic as I expected. The acting was excellent. I really liked the lawyer. By today’s standards, the plot would seem improbable. But this was in the early days of movies, and things like missing heirs and fortunate inheritances had not been done to death. It is kind of refreshing to find that such a simple plot can still move you.

Selznick's first film after leaving RKO; he brought master movie composer Max Steiner with him. Steiner would move his base to Warners the following year, but have a clause in his contract to write music for Selznick whenever needed. Selznick would get major studios to let him 'borrow' actors under contract to star in his movies. It didn't hurt that MGM boss Louis B. Mayer was his father-in-law.
