I was living in a Catholic Orphanage 1944 - 1948. I remember at age 4 yrs of age, the Nuns walked us from the Orphanage to the movie theatre to see this movie. Then we had to walk all the way back. They didn't have school buses in my city at that time. Great memory and great movie.

Especially the Christian foundation of what ,and why and who Jesus was!!.., 1980, I asked Jesus to come to live inside me, and forgive me of my sins...!!! I new the basics, but I never new to confess and declare them til then!!...The wait was worth it...and thankyou, sister's if st.Joseph for preparing me, Amen and Amen!!!

There's something so calming and surreal about watching old movies like this. You feel completely sucked into them, like all your worries have been conquered, and you've been plucked from your problems and placed in another world. An old world. A world where we were fighting to live, fighting for rights, trying to build a better world for the generations to come. Most importantly however, these make me smile.

this movie is a real gem , even to those who are non religious , it has a great story . i do not believe in god but i do enjoy some of these sorts of movies , i highly recommend (the shack 2017 ) real older movie gems ( the whisperers 1967,)( the caretaker 1963 ) . (turn the key softly 1953 ), all the last 3 movies are real gems , and older people will love these . if you own or work in an old peoples home , set up a home cinema room with a huge screen , trust me you will make them very happy . i wish i had a home cinema to go around old peoples homes and play them nostlaglic movies . they cant see or hear much on a small tv in a day room . I even struggled to see and hear a small tv when i was 30 ish working in old peoples homes , so how are old people meant to really enjoy a movie ? when theres so much going on in a sitting room , they put a tv there just for show , as the old folk cant hear it or see it , if i struggle at 30 ,to see it or hear it , they had no chance , i think there should be movies at least 3 times a week on a loud large screen for old folks and they should be able to vote for what movie they want to watch that eveing .

It was during the filming of this picture that the Academy Awards for 1944 were held. That night Leo McCary and Bing Crosby won for "Going My Way" and Ingrid Bergman had won for "Gaslight". That was the year my grandmother died. My mom‘s mom of course we had two grandmothers, but my mom‘s mom was really special. She was a very gifted woman and had many heavy burdens to carry in life. a she wrote the most beautiful poetry about the Lord and the miracles in life. Even when the area where she was living was changing, she didn’t want to leave it although she had to she was often invited to preach in the churches that were now of different religion, but that didn’t matter to grandma if she could tell you about the Lord, she could tell you about Jesus that was the only thing that mattered to her. She was a very special lady and she been gone a long time. This movie makes me think of her.

I agree with you totally. I hope you find some more of the most beautiful 'old' movies that exist. You will be amazed of what they hold. 😊

This print was struck from the original negative. It contains the RKO name which was later removed for legal reasons.

Wonderful film. Didn’t Ingrid Bergman win an Oscar for her role in this film? I must confess, I often found it hard to focus on what she was saying, as I was instead looking at that remarkably beautiful face.

In so many of her films, there are a lot of CLOSE closeups of that astonishing face (much more often than w other "stars"). No matter how different the characters she's playing, it always conveys the character perfectly.

I will never understand why in days past they wouldn't allow people to know what was wrong with them or that they were dying. I have been ill for nearly 40 years and to fight properly, one must have a positive attitude. Even though it has been hard to find out and know everything all along, it has been a true faith building and growth experience. I am so grateful.❤

My mom was a school secretary for years. She developed TB and had to leave similarly. This is still a big health issue today, sadly.
