The thing I really dont like what jesy has done is that she sold out the other girls and her fans. Yeah it must be hard to be in a girl band like physically and mentally but it's like shes forgot all the good from it ? Like from little mix she won a brit award, was able to tour, had hits and music videos and she did have 3 very good friends but yup I think Leigh Ann said something and Jesy took it the wrong way and to be honset I think shes behaved like a spoilt brat 😅. ‘Blackfishing is when non blacks emulate the appearance of Black or mixed people ie extreme fake tan, lip fillers, hair, accents etc. It’s a form of cultural appropriation and it’s disrespectful. They do it to black people because they don’t respect us or our experiences, kinda like how they teach us to hate our features, only to then run to a surgeon to imitate them. They emulate us in order to profit and benefit from society. Whilst this may not appear problematic on the surface, the problem is us black people are only ever viewed negatively because of our culture and appearance e.g braids or locs being viewed as ghetto and unprofessional, but then when non blacks do it, they are praised. They also blackfish and appropriate us because black people have no self respect, once again as a result of conditioning by them which started during slavery, so we allow them to take the piss out of us and mimic us and profit from our culture because they taught us to hate ourselves even more than they hate us 🤷🏾‍♀️ but most people aren’t ready for that conversation. In regards to the video, Jessy is emulating urban/ hood culture, she is sagging and it’s being applauded but let’s someone from the hood sag and they will be arrested because according to society it means they are gang affiliated. It’s just problematic period wear what you want, tan how much you want, act however you want but stop acting tone deaf like you don’t know why it’s an issue, and don’t be silent when people are discriminated against for the same things you are mimicking and being praised for.
