This was such a powerful song! Me and Bushy Mama talked about the subjects that were brought up, so that is why it is long.

I understand you’re only speaking from your own experience. But please understand the world out there is so vast, different people, different cultures, different countries, different beliefs.... in general, women are still oppressed, maybe less so in some places/countries/professions than others. But the song is definitely real life, there is no deny about this. I’m glad to know you don’t have to experience inequality where you are, however, maybe you should go out there and see the world other than being privileged enough to say the song exaggerates it, only because it doesn’t affect you.

I totally get that in a lot of countries women are severely oppressed. I am not blind to that fact. In a lot of places woman are treated like property, which is absolutely terrible!

It’s not just the music industry. With what you should wear, as a girl in school we have dress codes that 98 percent towards women. If men have on little to no clothes it’s fine but when women have on little to no clothes it’s seen as begging for attention.

At the end of the day women aren’t treated equal yet especially in the entertainment business and is shown by what little mix has said and how they got told to flirt with the “powerful ” men to get the songs on the radio in the US which obviously they said no and have got blacklisted from some stations because they didn’t flirt with men 🙄so not right and women are also very sexualised in my opinion

Nah I didn’t come here for a man to be mansplaining women struggles 😭 1st of all women have to work harder since we are seen as less independent and that we “can’t handle too much work”. Also women are never listen to in socially, that’s the problem. It’s not that we don’t speak or negotiate it’s that we are never listened to. Also the fact that men have “less to wear “ is internalised misogyny and toxic masculinity since all the things men don’t wear are linked to females, women, femininity and so show a vulnerable side which deep inside men are told not to show and that’s also why women wear suits and things that are perceived as “men’s clothing” is because it makes them look more masculine to society.

Maybe it’s different for bushy mama but all the things little mix said has happened to me and a lot of my friends who are women😭 It doesn’t happen to all but it happens to some . it can happen at work ,school in a store literally anywhere there’s always a stereotype that there are things only guys can do or thing only girls can do and I don’t personally think it’s fair that everyone has to be put in a box especially women we can do whatever we want to do wear whatever we want to wear without being judged and being called a slut because if a guy goes without a shirt on it’s hot but if I women wears shorts or a croptop or both it’s being a slut and it’s not for you “age” then when will it be for because whenever I wear it you’ll still call me a slut ya know people body shame ,people deistic especially MEN I don’t think you can say agree or disagree because you never know what others go through to disagree of course it’s different perspectives but a lot of people go through a lot of different things

Jade wrote this song with her mom in mind and it's inspired by her mother's experiences (though based on things all of the girls have said in interviews, some of it also applies to things they've experienced). I wasn't going to mention the wage gap but since you did haha, the wage gap is too often only spoken about in the sense of what a woman makes to a man's dollar when the wage gap is much more complicated and is influenced by a lot of factors like the fact that women are more likely to work part-time jobs and therefore make less money that way as far as hours, pay rate, job growth potential, etc and some of the reasons women often work part-time jobs are because of child rearing responsibilities or because they act as caretaker for older relatives. There's nothing wrong with that but it leads to the question of why are women carrying the primary caretaker responsibilities to such an extent that it's contributing to the wage gap? And like you mentioned there are industries that are male dominated because women aren't applying in those industries as often as men and because those industries pay well that contributes to the wage gap but on the flip side of that there's also a number of industries that are female heavy or dominated but are underpaid on the whole like teachers and childcare and housekeepers and so that contributes to the wage gap as well. Then there's a question of why those industries which have historically been "women's work" are undervalued and underpaid. I'm not trying to imply the answer to the question is as simple as 'sexism'' but rather that the wage gap is more complicated than people often acknowledge. There's also a ton of other layers that go into this when you add race into the equation because we often only talk about the wage gap from a white women's perspective when the wage gap for WOC is worse. I won't go on and on but there's my food for thought on that. As far as the current feminist movement being too radical or extreme, you both talked about making it more appealing to all parties involved. My two cents on that is, when throughout history has politely asking an oppressive system for equality worked? And then how long should you wait for it to work before you try something else?
@BeardedReactions
@BeardedReactions 3 жыл бұрын
It's not necessarily "politely" asking a system to change, but rather making enough noise that it does. To me, when there is a woman's March and they are walking around with hats that resemble their body parts (trying to keep it PC for youtube) that is when a lot of people will get turned off. If however, they showed up with signs about what they want, and come in numbers, that is when other members of society will rally behind them! This is what happened with the vote. And with the wage gap you're right. There are factors that come into play that increase the gap that could be remedied. And I hope we do! Thank you for the thoughtful comment!

I’m glad that you’ve never really noticed these differences in your own jobs/life but it is very much still present in a lot of industries. Personally when I worked in an office, for example, we were told we HAD to wear skirts and heels. I don’t think they’re saying that it’s like this for everything but for the most part there is still a long ways to go in the world as a whole. Obviously you’ll have seen that they do say that we’ve come a long way though. Also I wanted to say that your mansplaining wasn’t offensive but I think unless you actually experience sexism it is difficult to understand it. I think it’s a bit like racism or homophobia. I know a lot of people personally who try to tell me that “racism isn’t a problem in our country” (Scotland) It’s not that they’re trying to be offensive but as white people living in a predominantly white area they don’t personally witness or experience racism but that doesn’t mean that it’s not prevalent in our society. Just that it hasn’t affected them.

My mother was just as skilled as her male counterparts, if not more, yet she had to work 10 times as hard to earn a decent paycheck and she STILL earned less than them. They would fool around and they didn’t take their jobs seriously. Meanwhile, my mom was working her butt off to help provide for her family. Can you explain that? And this is/has been the case for MANY of the moms/women I know

this song is vocally one of their most powerful and 'loudest' ones is because, in my opinion, theyre trying to put their message across. aside from that, as a woman in her teens who has never stepped foot in the entertainment industry, this song relates to me in every possible way. dont get me wrong, i think its amazing bushy mama has never experienced such an extent of sexism in her work however i know lots of women and young girls who are seen as inferior just because of the way their bodies are made. its not just in the entertainment industry, its everywhere. as for the clothes thing, its not just because of the 'variety' of clothes women get to choose from. a man goes around shirtless? fine. a woman goes around in a crop top or sports bra on a hot summers day? shes a slut. shes asking for it. of course not in all cases and i agree that society is changing (a little bit) however mysogony and sadly internalised mysogony exists now more than ever i think. i know you have gotten plenty of comments on this video and on previous videos about little mix and their message and experiences, but please understand women across the world can relate to this song. its one of my personal favourites from their discography. just because one woman hasnt experienced what womans world is talking about doesn't mean every woman has been as fortunate

Also Jade wrote this song based on her experiences in life as a woman (before and during Little Mix), Little Mix as a whole’s experience as women in the industry, and her mom’s experiences growing up as a woman. So no, it’s not just for women in the industry. This is the reality for a HUGE majority of the women around the world and it’s even worse for women of color. Please don’t downplay the struggles that we go through just bc you haven’t experienced them. The world is not just what exists in your life or your little bubble of experiences. For every 1 good experience in life as a woman, there are a million bad ones.

Honestly, this song hits me hard. I am not in the entertainment business, I am a 20-year-old med student. I grew up in a house where I was looked at in a different way, constantly being told how to sit, how to walk, what to wear., how to laugh. My family still to this day does not think I can be a doctor because I am supposed to get married and be a housewife. It is really exhausting having to work 1000 times harder for what you want when you are a female than when you are a male.

In most companies if you have 2 applications that are exacly the same the company will pic the man just because un case the woman gets pregnant they doesnt have to care about her taking care of her baby. Also my mum is a nurse and several times the doctors that she have worked with are male and they are vwry rude to her or when shes on her period and she had pain they would laugh at her. And when you say that feminism is a radical movement and yoy campare ir to when women started working it wasnt that easy. Women started working because men were taken to fight in world war 2 and the country didnt have worker so the ones that were left in the country were women so they started working but when the war ended they wsnted the women to go back yo just taking care of their children and ther home but they didnt want that so they fought for it. This also happened with the vote, a lot of women died in the manifestation for it. Anyway great after all. ❤️

I'm so happy that Bushy Mama didn't go through that, I know what it is. Unfortunately I have been denigrated for being a woman, I have asked in jobs to raise my salary fairly, and all they do is humiliate me and even fire me, and if I try to speak or tell about it, they ignore me. Every time I go down the street, men usually say obscene things to me, if I talk about it, they only tell me to take care of the way I dress. The first time I heard "You are a woman, you cannot do this, you are only good for this" I was 9 years old, since then I have had to try twice as hard to be heard and achieve my goals. And yes, although things are changing, there will always be a trace of this type of situation. I love their videos and the way they talk about these issues, without fear of giving an opinion, always with respect.

I think what's also missing from the conversation is rape culture. Women are often told not to antagonize men and to placate men not to be put in harmful situations. Not to wear certain clothing because you know "if you wear a mini skirt, your asking for it." Meanwhile we dont talk about men having to adjust their behaviours and not rape women. When a woman is raped the blame is often put on her and not the man. Also I think we need to talk about pay gaps in terms of industry. Most male dominated industries are positions of high paying jobs, doctors (more women now but still not equally balanced), construction, mining, engineering... etc are high paying positions, highly sought after positions. Meanwhile women dominated fields tend to pay less, a construction worker out of high school can almost make the same amount of money with less education than a nurse, a miner can make even more then that, then we can talk about cleaning services, daycare workers, teachers... all much lower paying then any construction job a man can do or a lawyer (which again is very male dominant.) So no I dont believe this is just a problem for the entertainment industry at all, I think women are highly disadvantaged in many positions in life either socially or economically.

Though when you're talking about womens world I came to think of a couple of twins I by accident stumbled over when searching for Beatles covers (71 and growing up with The Beatles) or Beatles related. Since 1990 I've made a Beatles Xmas present to an old schoolmate of mine but sources are running out. Around the assassination of John Lennon 40 years ago I searched for Imagine and found The MonaLisa Twins. 26 year old and having success in their own way in the tough music bussiness. Have their own label, production, band, management, Play different instruments and sing quite well. They came to Liverpool in 2013 and from 2014 to 2016 they had 100 concerts in The Cavern Club. Enough - when you are interested in a little break from your excellent Little Mix reactions try and listen to their cover of Lennons Imagine. May you have a great 2021 and keep following Little Mix. Also just a side question... when are you and bushy mama going to react to marjorie by Taylor Swift? I think this would be a great listen for the both of you. This song is a tribute to Taylor's grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, who was an opera singer. She passed in 2003, so unfortunately she never witnessed Taylor's journey to being one of the biggest stars in the world even with the gender inequality that she has faced. Also whether its on your own time or a reaction I highly recommend watching Taylor's documentary, Miss Americana. Well let’s talk about schools you just talked about entertainment being sexist. I don’t know if it’s the same In your area but personally I think schools are worse, because you choose if you wanna be in entertainment or even if you are already you can just quit. But you have to spend 12 years of your life in school and I think in school we start to have our own mentality. Don’t know about you but in my school you can’t show you shoulders, your legs, you have to do a ponytail or braids. Even though the laws in my country say that we can wear what we wanna wear. Let’s start talking about teachers. Most of them are sexist and homophobic. I mean I have/had many teachers saying that boys are waaaay smarter than we are. And do you know what happens next? Since we are children or teens we just think that’s the truth. Most of us live thinking that way and teaching other generation this mentality and some of us change our mentality and try to protest. So I think that this close-minded mentality is first of all school system’s fault

You talk about the wage gap but I have a couple of things for you. How many men do you know that work in nail salons, retail, hairdressers, makeup artists a lot of waiters? Sure there are some men just like there are some women doing construction but I don’t think it’s right to say that. There is also a huge wage gap between male and female actors. If you want statistics then look at the huge gap between Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg. Also when a woman posts a video just like this she would be absolutely attacked. Not just bc of what she says but there would be people who would say wear more makeup, you’re fat, wear more revealing clothes. Little Mix are constantly hated upon bc of what they wear, their race and their bodies. In fact Jesse has just left bc she can’t take it anymore. I promise I’m not trying to sound like I’m attacking you but I feel like I need to stand up for most women who understand this song. There are just so many baselines and stereotypes and pressure around being a teenage girl which I’m not sure you guys understand or remember since being a woman means these days that if you don’t put your body on display on social media then you aren’t a woman but if u do then ur a slut or an object for a predator. A guy probably wouldn’t think for a second about walking down a dark street (in Australia where I am from idk about America) but for females we would be at home by the time the sun sets afraid bc some older male can’t keep into to himself. I really struggled watching this video bc this song means a lot to me as I am surrounded by so many women who have it tough. Things are both getting better and worse but this song was written and aimed at their fan base which is mostly teenage girls who feel alone in their life and struggles. It is a song of great sisterhood and deserves its recognition. (Sorry again if it feels like I’m attacking you guys) Another point that I’ve just realised reading over this comment was the amount of times times women apologise even if it isn’t their fault and they are just stating their opinion like I did. I apologised twice when I was only speaking how I felt. Think about that for a second. If you want some more statistics look up the amount of times a woman apologises even for something she didn’t do and compare to a guy. Sorry again.

I actually agree with you, obviously I am not a woman too, but I think some of the arguments used in this song and in mostly of the protests nowadays are getting a bit old, I do think mostly of these were a issue in the past, but (as stated in the song), the changes are coming. And yes, a world where everyone is taught to be overly sensitive is a problem, because people can't deal with daily issues anymore without giving up everytime, so, as much as I love to see more of these things being talked and discussed about, I think they are being done the wrong way, and a wave of problems might come when the new generations start to have their own kids.
