Backing band is none other than Sounds Incorporated from Kent, England - Sounds Inc were managed by Brian Epstein and were essentially The Beatles support act on their World Tours. You can see Sounds Incorporated opening for The Beatles at Shea Stadium. Sounds Inc drummer Tony Newman went on to be the drummer with Jeff Beck on Beck Ola and was also the drummer on Bowies Diamond Dogs among others. Sounds Inc supported many great acts in the 60's including Gene Vincent ... they were primarily known as an instrumentals band and had hits such as the William Tell Overture. Lemmy of Motorhead cited a song by Sounds Inc called Detroit as one of his favourite records in the 60's. This footage is from Granada TV in the UK ...

In those days the UK would not allow US singers to bring their own bands with them when they toured the UK. it was a union thing. This was told by Joe Brown in an interview I saw. He played behind a lot of American stars in those days when they were in UK.

They opened for Beatles in 65 at maple leaf gardens in Toronto. When roadies removed their logo from base drum to reveal The Beatles girls went crazy. Couldn’t hear anything till end of the show. @ronwhycherly4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how cool it was in 1957 but this was recorded in England in 1963 and the backing band was Sounds Incorporated, an English band. In the days when there were restrictions on bringing musicians over due to the musician’s union they backed a lot of touring artists and did a good job. Saw them backing Ben E King and Eddie Floyd in 1967.
@USA24541 Жыл бұрын
@@ronwhycherly The sax was the original rock & roll instrument, not guitars. Richard's band had just one guitar (like this band),and one electric bass. This was true in most bands of the early rock era.

n 1956, DJ Alan Freed said that LRichard is the real solid rocker. Little Richard is explosive and charismatic. His ostrageous personality captured the music´s rebbelious spirit and his franticallly piano playing and raspy, shouted vocals defined its sound. Little Richard is the real king of rock and roll. All heavy metal band vocalists sing like Little Richard, in other words, at full volume. He was the symbol of rejection. Elvis was the symbol of conformity and served in the army.

I couldn't have said it better. Thank you. Rolling Stones article wasn't a poll as you said. It was a panel of the worlds top historians working on the largest study of it's kind. They went back to the 1800s and researched all the elements that went into the sound we know today as R&R. In the end the first recording came down to The Comets and Elvis. Elvis was given the the honor because That's Alright drew public attention (before) Rock Around the Clock and better represented the sound.

From what I hear most of the Gospel song he wrote he never record. He was very religious as you know. They were very personal to him. They were a source of comfort. That bothered him for the rest of his life.

Elvis Presley didn't come out singing Little Richard songs. Elvis was singing Rockabilly. I'll remind you all again because your revisionist history has clouded your better judgment. Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino were incredibly popular in the 1950's. Their music was being played everywhere and they were already accepted as pillars of Rock n Roll. I was there. Don't get me wrong. Chuck Berry is a key part of early rock. He inspired millions. My point was to not belittle the fact that Elvis predates both Berry and Richards in the chain of events that lead to Rock 'N" Roll as we know it today. As For Bill Haley and The Comets, Rock Around the Clock hit the charts April/May of 1955. Before that they were known as Bill Haley and his Saddle Men. Strictly a Country and Western group. However they were the very first Rock band and the first to have a #1 hit.

If I had to name an "inventor" of rock & roll, I believe that credit should go to Goree Carter, a "blues" guitarist who, at the age of 18, produced "Rock Awhile" in 1949... What's startling about this track is that it almost sounds like it could have been a Chuck Berry record from the mid-50s! Another pioneering blues guitarist was Pat Hare, who between 1951 and 1954 produced "blues" records that almost sound like late-60s hard rock music!

Great arranging. We all bow to Beatles arranger and producer George Martin. He created the Beatles sound. The raw music that Paul and John wrote was simple. Martin created the songs out of their idea. That's what Elvis did. He Produced arranged and played on every single. He was a music genius. The myth Elvis never wrote songs is just that. Two of his biggest song were "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" and "You'll Be Gone". He co-wrote them with Red West. Elvis also wrote 50 gospel songs.
