Little Sister beat me up

Originally being from New England, I took a short trip to Rhode Island to attend a good friend's wedding in Southern Massachusetts. While there, I found the Woody Hill trail system.
I was back in Massachusetts in April to ride Lynn Woods which was a fairly iconic trail system in New England - which turned out to be a bust - so I had the attitude that I was going to "Make this trip count" and try Little Sister - my first double black diamond trail ever on a unicycle.
This wasn't a HUGE mistake, but the way I approached it was.
The trail was still a little slick so it didn't treat me too well, but I also didn't treat myself well. I didn't bring snacks or enough water for the day and the Little Sister trail was 4 miles long. And it took be an hour to get to the trail head with riding there and warming up on nearby trails.
I ended up being out there for 4 or 5 hours without enough water or food and most importantly, the trail was SO GOOD I couldn't let anything go without an attempt or two. But I bit off more than I could chew this day and ended up just getting thrown around by the trail.
Next time I head to New England, maybe I'll plan accordingly - or maybe hit some trails my own skill level. Third times the charm!

I'm a (65-year-old) newbie who quickly learned off-road unicycling is more fun than on-road. I've watched tons of muni videos and had visions of being able to do the cool things that you experienced guys can do. But then I found your channel - and it made me realize there is a LOT more to mountain unicycling than just pointing yourself downhill. Your videos are true to the muni experience and include the real challenges -- and falls -- that come with the sport. I now know the last thing I need to do is head to the mountain bike trail. I thank you for that, Dan - because I just don't want or need the injuries that I know are sure to come. So I'll stay on my benign trails and live vicariously - but not at all regrettably - through you. Appreciate you, brother.

This is such a thoughtful comment. Thank you for this! I agree there are some super impressive people out there that make it look easy. I think the problem solving aspect of what lines to hit and how to approach obstacles is a little more pronounced in mountain unicycling compared to biking but yeah- it’ll definitely beat you up. I wouldn’t quite give up on your muni vision yet. We all can’t be Kris Holm or Ryan Kremsater but it still can be worthwhile. Totally get that though hahaha!

Oh Dan, love your videos mate, don't like seeing people get hurt, but seeing all your fails inspires me to keep working on my riding no matter how many times I fall, and I'm only on a flat surface. You're a legend buddy. Love your work.

Inspiring to see you challenge yourself and try again and again until you get it or get too beat up. Thank you for a great video!

Thank you for the kind words! Idk what it says about me that I more or less feel more accomplished after getting thrown around like that but it is what it is. I think this is common amongst the Uni community

Awesome video! I have ridden that trail (on a mountain bike) a bunch and it is brutal and relentless. I just started trying to ride a unicycle literally 3 days ago and can’t imagine ever taking it to Little Sister, especially how it’s going so far.

That trail is no joke. It IS relentless. Hey man, good for you for learning something new. I bet eventually it’ll look more and more doable as you progress.
