The first chord sounds like a Dm7, but then it kind of moves back and forth between a D7sus2, a D7sus4, and the Dm7. The beauty of this song is when it goes to EbMA7 x4, then back a half step to a DMA7 x4, and repeats. Those two chords just open up so many melodic possibilities. An improvisational delight. In the late ‘70s-early ‘80s I was in a band that opened every gig with this. It’s not something you’d equate with a rock band, but we loved playing it be- cause of the groove and it gave us a chance to just play, to get out of the box we normally occupied. People would always ask about it. Wow, great memories of the gigging life. I haven’t thought about this tune in probably, oh, at least 30 years. It’s an awesome jam number for players who are willing to stretch and go deep.

I learned jazz improv in the 70s, so these kinds of modal, bossa groove tunes are my comfort zone. I have to work really hard at bebop.

I am recording my daughters lead over this. You backing track is so beautiful! My wife is from Paris, and she loves “Samba Saravah” by Pierre Barouh. Do you have a backing track for this? I did subscribe to your patreon site.

Hi Jim, thanks a lot !! Oh that's really cool, I know that song, and I know the work of Pierre Barouh and his passion for Brasil (that I have too) but unfortunately I don't have the backing track of that song, sorry.

Hi ! You chose the 5$ tier, which includes backing tracks of my Chord Melody tunes. If you want to have access to the full archive it's the seconde tier. This audio file is in it, and little sunflower is too, yes. There are 900 files :-)

@@guitareimprovisation In your defense, even the original Real Book gets it wrong. So I guess that's why we have to do our own listening.
