My wife still has a picture of her only boyfriend before we got together. Only reason why she still has it is because it’s the last picture of him before he committed suicide the next day. My wife and I were already together by then. They broke up mutually and they both wanted to just be friends. I became friends with him and we were close too. Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic, but I have always LOVED this song!! I love the story in the song and video. You had that one true love, but it just never happened. You go on with life, meet someone else and have a family with them. Not to say you don't love the woman you married, but it's just not the same. And then at the end, once they've both led a full life... they find each other again. Oh the feels!! It's the same reason I love the movie The Age of Adaline. Similar storyline.

After raising kids together for 18 years my husbands ex wife and I are, and have been, best friends since our kids were little. It was easier to be friends than put our kids through fighting and misery. So yes, we have pictures of people in our past relationships, we even spend Christmas together. ❤️

This song hits just about everyone. Most people have fond memories of their first loves. It is not uncommon to run into them again and it always seems to stir those feelings up from the past. But the message is clear, don't endanger what you have now in hope that this could be better. The video highlights the exceptions to the message. Finding that first love after years apart when you are both alone and getting to explore what might have been.

I remember this song being played for a young up and coming talent in the racing world who died in an on-track incident in May of 2000. He was only 19, and the first fourth-generation competitor in any professional sport. For him it wasn't "the one that got away," it was "the life he didn't get to live," and it still brings a catch to my breath every time I hear it. That's the magic of a great song. The words can mean so many different things to so many different people.

Love this reaction. Kinda makes me want to have you react to Life's a Dance by John Michael Montgomery or Unanswered Prayers by Garth Brooks though I know his gets blocked a lot. Being mid 30's and a product of a divorce that was made amicable because of me and my brother (though he wasn't biologically my Dad's as he was from a previous relationship, not that you could ever tell from how we were treated even after the divorce) I realize that mementos and contact with ex-partners are a case by case basis. If you can be strong enough to admit the mistakes on both sides and grow into better people, keep that proof close! We are all a sum of our experiences. Hope everyone is staying safe and relatively sane!

Almost everyone has a past. Lots of reasons why there might have been one that got away. I think it's most important to be reasonable even when it's hard. Dating a widow is the hardest. But the heart has lots of love to give. They're both widowed....I am guessing. Lol

When I was in my 20s and 30s I had trouble with that idea. However at some point I realized I am the one here now. If it was a good memory then who am I to make someone feel bad for that. This world is so full of horrid things. Good memories are good things, even if I'm not related to some of them. As the song goes, that was then.

We can look back fondly at the "might have been" because we didn't have a mortgage, kids, bills, and daily life stuff together. I feel the way you do about looking back on a past love, but everyone is human and does it whether the other one knows it or not. Sometimes, like the video portrays, we find ourselves widowed or divorced and can look back fondly.

There's a great song by Joey+Rory called Teaching Me How To Love You. The lyrics are about the singer's earlier relationships and how they went wrong, but that each time, "they were teaching me how to love you." So each time you love and lose, you learn how to be a better partner. I love that song, and all the songs on their "His and Hers" CD. You could react to any song on it and I'd be happy.

I have no problem with anyone having a picture of a past love - an ex, a spouse who has now passed on, or as in this case, the "one who got away". Everybody has a lifetime's worth of memories, and the pictures are a part of that. Just because you loved someone before doesn't mean you don't love your current partner now.. That being said,, the only way it could possibly become a problem is if the person tries to use the picture to hurt their current partner. In that case, the picture should go - or perhaps that person shouldn't be trying to have a new relationship.

When I saw that you were reacting to this song, I thought there was going to be a BYSE moment at the end. My take on it is that Grandma is gone and he runs into her. Now the thing is you have to figure is that she is there to see someone else apparently. So there is no "guarantee" that they get back together at the end of the day. Your reactions never disappoint me. Don't worry about the people that say you talk too much. If they want to watch the video without the commentary, they can watch the "actual video" and not the REACTION!! Right? I'll catch ya down the road.

Just be open about it... As you get older, if you lose someone and find someone else, it's really likely that they'll have had another love in their life. There's another old country song and I can't think of the actual title, but the chorus is 'I don't care if I'm not the first love you've known, long as I'll be the last.' Seems to be a good way to think :)
