"Homeless" and "Veteran" are two words that should never be used in the same sentence. It's crazy to me that this is how this country thanks our troops. I will never understand it

This song was inspired by a seriously injured veteran who he'd been shot 3 times. He attempted to cover his men with his body not expecting to live. (he survived barely). That was his moment (according to the songwriter). BLESS OUR VETERANS.

When this song first came out I loved it but I was so caught up in my own head and problems at the time that it took me to the third verse to even understand what the song was about. Then each re-listen, I couldn't understand why it took me that long to figure it out.. that he was literally that guy's guardian angel (which you get/understand when he touches the man and his life flashes before his eyes). It made the song so much more powerful when I saw the video, especially after my own head and demons (for that time being) weren't in control and I could understand it completely.

First, thank you for your service and giving of yourself so selflessly. Second, please don’t say that nobody cares, because we do. I know I do, very much. My dad served in WWII and my brother served in the Vietnam war. I positioned myself to be in the Air Force around the time of the Gulf war, but I was 10 lbs overweight. Trust me, I wasn’t fat. Actually, I was pretty skinny but they said no. I was also only 5’2”......don’t know if that played anything. I appreciate veterans with all my heart and soul. If not for you, the USA 🇺🇸 would not be what she is. I’m proud of veterans and proud of our nation, and it just about kills me to see what’s happening to her😭 but again , THANK YOU, SIR!!! From the bottom of my heart❤️❤️❤️

Billy- thank you for your service. An under rated, beautiful song, but I wanted to share a "momemt" I had (just a shade off topic) as we share a bond as I'm a vetran as well. When I returned from overseas after 'storm/shield '90-'92 I was blown away at how our society had gone from the lowest point in '75 where our brothers returning from Vietmam had no hero's welcome and for some the tragedy of being blamed for our political failures by the younger generation's unfortunate lack of understanding that 99% of our troops were just as noble as any era's VFW''s. Fast foward back to the early '90's with PTSD more understood by medical and psychological researchers, yet the general population still largely with a long way to go in understanding PTSD as sadly an often permanent condition of which there will probably never be a cure. I still remember being overwhelmed by countless "Thank you for youir service" gestures from complete strangers from all ages and walks of life. Fast forward again to today. I was talking to a Vietnam vet the other day and I shared how thankful I am for our generation (gulf wars and afganistan) being honored for our sacrifice and just "answering the call" no matter the politics of the day good or bad. But I also wanted this older vet to know that I also had feelings of guilt for all the support of whichhis generation had almost none. He cut me off right there with a warm smile and told me it's more than okay, and just seeing how we were getting so much love nowdays has made thier struggle so much easier as a hand shake became a heartfelt hug and his eyes tearing up a quiet "thank you."

The writer of this song Sam Tate, wrote this song after meeting a wounded veteran who was shot 3 times, once in the neck, and couldn't speak well. Sam spent 3 days fishing with this young warrior. As the young man was leaving Sam told him "You're gonna make it and you're gonna be ok" . The young veteran replied " I know Sam, I've had my moments. Such a beautiful tribute song.

I've had that moment... But I'm still here... I have a semicolon tattoo.. which means I chose to pause and then keep living... It was put in my skin, forever to remain by my daughter Emily...whom I lost very soon after that to cancer. She was 33... But that mark on my skin reminds me every day of her... and that she didn't get to live... So I'll do it for her... And tell her story... This song has long been a favorite and now a reminder of more to my story... Whatever yours is... Remember YOUR moments... and LIVE

If you want some more songs with good messages I suggest Montgomery Gentry' s Something to be Proud of, as well as Keith Urban's For You. For You is actually also a song for the military and I believe Keith gave all the profits towards the men and women who serve.

I am a recovering alcoholic, I first heard this song in the midst of active use. I just passed my 10 year anniversary of sobriety. This song reminded me we all have a past and when we share it can help. The last verse is about that old man talking the younger one off the edge by sharing his moments. And those moments pulled me off the edge too. 💜 I'm truly happy you reacted to this one.

I sang this in my 8th grade talent show, which seems forever ago since I'll be 21 in only months. One of the people that ran it was the woods shop teacher, along with my choir teacher. He asked if I could change my song to a rock song(I'd done Home by Daughtry an Weren't Born To Follow by Bon Jovi the years prior). I said no respectfully. Dead quiet while I sang. Standing ovation when I finished. He pulled me aside after, shook my hand, apologized for asking to change, an we laughed. P.s. I wasn't angry with him at all about asking me to change my song. We was a rock music person, an thought it was needed for a great show. He said I proved him wrong.

If you like Kenny Chesney's music you should check out Jimmy Buffett he has a lot of those fun feel good songs like Margaritaville where one line talks about I blew out my flip flop and Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt, not all his songs are kid friendly but most are. one song in particular that you should not play where young ears can hear is a song called why don't we get drunk and sc**w.

Billy I'm a Veteran and my career ended after the first Gulf War (Desert Shield/Desert Storm). Two words that should NEVER go together are "Homeless Veteran". Many that didnt serve dont understand that in Boot Camp we are brainwashed and go from a civilian to a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine. Whether you serve 3 years or 30 years we are not reprogrammed to be a civilian again and like prisoners getting released from a 30 year prison sentence they cant adjust to the world they were just thrown into. We Veterans have to stick together and help our brothers and sisters because nobody understands like we do. If you would please do a reaction to "Long Black Train" by Josh Turner.
