I worked on the entire movie. I controlled the stage spot light on all the stage stuff. I was electrical labourer on the movie . Great times and all fantastic cast and crew.

How is Jane Horrocks not a more recognizable actress? She’s such a gifted performer, she deserved better!

She died too young.🙁 Had her time come, her talent would have been recognised (by more than just us). (Bit later:) I was _sure_ I'd heard she died, because it saddened me. But I am delighted to say I can find no evidence, so I agree with your question!

She was offered lots of roles in America but she wanted to focus on her family in the UK.

The movie is NOT depressing! It's funny as hell and brilliantly acted!
@JavertRA5 жыл бұрын
It's depressing when you see the way her Mum and Ray exploit her talent - an obviously painful shy young girl getting forced on stage - but her relationship with Billy who wants nothing more from her than to be herself not imitating someone is very heartwarming.

The movie is depressing. Most of the characters were self-absorbed and astonishingly vicious to each other. BUT the musical performances by Jane Horrocks are absolutely brilliant.
@blairwilliams1368 жыл бұрын
you obviously cant see and understand to beauty and clarity and in Jane 's character.
@ers5868 жыл бұрын
You obviously can't see or understand what I posted. I wrote. "MOST of the characters," not "ALL of the characters." Her mother was interested only in herself and gave Jane less affection or attention than most people would give to a houseplant. The agent who "discovered" Jane had no respect or compassion for her. Instead he wanted to have sex with Jane's mother and exploit Jane's talent as quickly as possible without any regard for her emotional and psychological issues. Jane was a damaged soul still in mourning for the one person who apparently loved her as she was--her Dad. If only Jane's mother had died and her father had survived. This would have been a completely different movie. As for depressing, do you really think that this film had a happy ending?
@kennique76348 жыл бұрын
I think Little voice had a happy ending, *Spoilers alert for anyone who hasn't watched.* but she finally stood up to her mom and in the process regained her voice and gained courage to go outside by herself. The horrible characters who exploited little voice got what was coming to them, every one them. Her mother is now alone after being humiliated by the agent and her house burned down, the agent now unemployed and going to be spanked by his debt collectors. I saw the ending as optimistic, despite everything that happened to LV, she overcame her biggest obstacle, her shyness. I mean sure, her house burned down and her records are destroyed. But can you imagine if that didn't happen? Now that would be an unhappy ending. Because even though the records were a keepsake of her father, it was an unhealthy crutch for LV and it was keeping her from telling her mother off. But anyways, i loved loved the movie. My only complaints was that they didn't really expand on the relationship of little voice and ewan mcgregor's character.

SPOILERS BELOW. The ending: a home in ruins, a treasured record collection lost, LV's mom abandoned by both her lover and her daughter, and LV herself facing an uncertain future. To me, a happy ending would have been LV signing a lucrative recording contract and moving to her own home.
@kennique76348 жыл бұрын
this is not to sound mean, but did you watch the second half of the movie? LV had the chance to perform for a big talent scout and ultimately a shot at fame but she was against it because she only wanted perform only once for a tribute for her father. But michael caine's character lied and tried force her to do a second performance without her consent or consulting her. Which is pretty messed up even though this second performance was undoubtedly going to mak LV a Giant star. She didn't want the fame or glamor. Which is why she passed out from grief during her end of her first performance and refused to step out of her house. Sure the ending of the of the story is opened ended with her house destroyed but a house is not home. I mean think about it, only in the end she was genuinely happy for the first time compared to the beginning of the movie. She finally confronted her demons and built enough courage to leave the house and be with the one she loves. And thats really the message of the whole movie practically. Not some materialistic bullshit, like records or a house or a record deal. There's to life than that, as evident in the movie. **Do you think she really would be truly happy in that home with a record deal she doesn't want?* *

I thought this was a great movie when I saw it back in the late 90s when I was in my early 20s, but 25 years later when I have actually listened to Doris Day, Julie London, Julie Andrews and Helen Forrest I can only say that Jane Horrocks (who plays LV) is nowhere near as good a vocalist.
