Both are somewhat true though. Amy probably refers to the times when they were young, when Jo used to be rough and boyish with her. She also sees Jo and Laurie so close. With Jo however, the dream of her life is to travel the world, and she's bitter when Amy gets it instead of her.
@ocluver4123 жыл бұрын
Just goes to show, that everyone views their childhood through a different lens. I don’t think either of them is necessarily wrong. But where Meg and Beth had the calm, peaceful personalities, Amy and Jo were also alike with the fiery, passionate personalities. That’s why they butted heads the most out of the sisters, and explains why Amy always felt second to Jo as the youngest of the clan.

I know literally everyone's said this but I love the way Florence delivers those lines. her reaction is perfect- the words themselves and the way she's clearly upset and trying not to cry feels like a call back to her younger years because the "you're being mean" is such an innocent sentence- but at the same time there's maturity and strength in the way that she stands up for herself and doesn't settle or give in despite wanting to be with Laurie. everything about that juxtaposition between the girl she was and the woman she's becoming is just fantastic.

This scene is extraordinary. You'll actually feel for Amy here. Amy is actually likeable. Like I only realised it after reading the book for the second time and I was more mature to understand where she's coming from. At first she's this annoying little brat, so ambitious and selfish, but she's a loving character. It is hard to be under Jo's shadow, as a daughter, as a sister and as an artist,a s well. Jo is such a strong character who is so much like Amy, and Amy developed this kind of attitude and character, unknowingly, I suppose, so she can have her place in the world.
@atoetral96444 жыл бұрын

Amy was a brat as a child LOL, but she grew up and matured. She always knew she had to marry well. Her oldest sister Meg married for love and was poor (so she couldn't help the family out), Jo was off trying to be a writer, Beth was sickly. So Amy knew the job of marrying well fell on her. She really didn't have the luxury to marry for love or waiting around pursuing a 'career' (as painter/writer/etc), her sight had always set on someone with $ so she could help her family out. The whole thing kind of reminded me of the dynamic of Pride and Prejudice characters too. The 'job' of marrying well fell on Jane, since she was the prettiest and most amiable of the Bennett sisters :D

I feel like some people don't like Amy for what she did to Jo as a response to her anger for always being left out, but they fail to remember that Amy was a child. They all were, and they all acted like children one way or another. Except Beth, despite being the 2nd Youngest. It's a time period of about 7-8 years so obviously they will mature and move on from things. I never saw Jo as a good match for Laurie since she had to try to try to convince herself, and failed, out of desperation, to try and love him. Amy never had any problem with that, and even when she came back married to Laurie, she was worried with how Jo would react. Amy matured the most, but in the end Jo realized that she shouldn't seek love just because she is lonely.

Ya, I'm even a writer, and I understood why may did what she did. Yes, she shouldn't have burned the pages but at the same time jo hurt her somewhere that was equally important to her as writing was for Jo, at first I thought because I am a writer a would like jo more but certain scenes just showed her as shellfish, the way she treated may when they left and Amy pleading to go with them, like there was a nicer way to say no and not hurt her feelings, and as a child, Amy didn't take it well, so bc of one scene a lot of people hated Amy and didn't want to watch her grow into someone better. A part about Amy/Laurie in Good Wives, which I really love, is that when he takes her advice and leaves to work, he actually plans to work on art and music as he mentions the opera here. And he also plans to make Jo the heroine and muse. However when he tries creating something, Jo's face evades him and instead he finds inspiration in Amy (he starts imagining golden hair and blue dresses which is a sign of Amy). Slowly Amy replaces Jo as his muse. It's gradual and brilliantly written.

i love how there is so much space on laurie’s side of the picnic blanket and yet he chooses to be closer to amy who’s sitting on the distant corner, really shows how much they act on their love for each other

I find it so funny that whenever Laurie says something that hints at his true feelings, both of the March sisters just say 'no' over and over again

It's so hard for me to choose between Laurie and Jo or Laurie and Amy. Either couple would've been great together. I do think that Amy did a lot more for his character development, though
@arwenevenstar17414 жыл бұрын
You obviously didn’t read the book. Jo and Laurie never would have been good together. Laurie needs an Amy
@madelynesmith234 жыл бұрын
@@arwenevenstar1741 I think the dynamic of the actors is what I was rooting for more so than the actual characters. The characters had some really cute moments, but Sairose and Timothee had such fantastic chemistry that it's hard not to want them to be together.

I only like Jo and Laurie in the 94 version. So much chemistry there. However in the book and this version Laurie and Amy are the best couple.

Oh my god, I love this movie so much. I love how she finds he is being mean because she has loved him ever since and just because Jo rejected him, she didn't want to be his women that he settles for. But she doesn't see that he was falling in love with her.

The smile she had the day she first met Laurie & the way she acted when she met laurie again in Prais, both were so naive and daydreamer type. But as the movie progresses you realise how she's shed off all the naive immaturity & become this Bold & Realistic Woman❤️

When Joe stays as a child, Amy really grew up .That’s why Laurie and Amy ended up together (if joe would say, everything was gonna be different tho)

i love the sentence "you're being mean" because she doesn't say "you are mean", it means that she knows he's not usually like that and is intending to hurt her right in this moment
@lindsayipson44703 жыл бұрын
may i just say I am so proud of the character Amy, because she didn't just fall for lauri,she told him no because she wasn't going to lower she expectations and she wasn't going to do that to herself then. I am so proud of Amy's character, and of the Actress for portraying her so well!

I loved this story arc. Timothee’s lines are very big but the expressions he puts behind them make the viewer believe Laurie’s real desire for Amy. Florence is spectacular the entire movie and she is actually my favorite March sister. I know what it’s like to have an older sister you feel outshines you and gets the attention of the boy you like. 😅
