No other actor or actress has accomplished what Angela Lansbury has. Plenty of performers have appeared in more than one medium; only Angie has scored megahits on screen, on stage, and on television. Five Tony awards on Broadway, three Oscar nominations (it's a sin that she didn't win for her portrayal of absolute evil in "The Manchurian Candidate"), and a twelve-year run on "Murder, She Wrote". And, in her personal life, a decades-long marriage to her greatest love, a successful intervention to save her son and daughter from drugs, and a sterling reputation among her many friends and professional colleagues. One could say to Angie what a cockney laborer called out to Queen Victoria as she drove by in her coach on her Diamond Jubilee in 1897: "GO IT, OLD GIRL; YOU'VE DONE IT WELL!"
@Scottsteaux632 жыл бұрын
I think Rita Moreno has come close.
@tadimaggio2 жыл бұрын
@@Scottsteaux63 Absolutely; and Moreno, unlike Angie, had to face the idiocy of anti-Latino bigotry. When asked in an interview about her professional life after "West Side Story", Moreno -- appropriately steel-eyed -- replied "Nine out of ten roles I was offered could have been summed up in one sentence: 'Yankee peeg, you steal me people's money!' " Keeping in mind, of course, that this was the same era in which CBS was initially afraid to air "I Love Lucy", on the grounds that a marriage between Lucy and -- gasp! -- a Cuban qualified as "interracial". Apparently the audience never got the memo.

The snow was very plentiful, And crumbs were very few When a weather-beaten sparrow Through a mansion window flew. Her eye fell on a golden cage; A sweet love song she heard, Sung by a pet canary there, A handsome yellow bird. He said to her: "Miss Sparrow, I've been struck by Cupid's arrow. Would you share my cage with me?" She looked up at his castle, with its ribbon and its tassel, and in a plaintive tone said she: "Good-bye, little yellow bird. I'd rather brave the cold On a leafless tree Than a prisoner be In a cage of gold. The spoiled and petted yellow bird Could scarce believe it true That a common sparrow should refuse A bird with blood so blue. He told her the advantages Of riches and of gold. She answered that her liberties For gold could not be sold. She said "I must be going." But he cried "No, no, its snowing, And the wintry winds do blow. Stay with me, my little dearie, For without you 'twould be dreary." But she only sighed "Ah, no." "Good-bye, little yellow bird. I'd gladly mate with you - I love you, little yellow bird, But I love my freedom, too. So good-bye, little yellow bird. I'd rather brave the cold On a leafless tree Than a prisoner be In a cage of gold."
