Excellent tip on using QE and empty box to check for queen on frame loaded with bees! I missed a queen the other week and now have a nice nuc with the old queen and the parent colony now in the process of making a new queen. Not my intent, but it will still work. Will use your technique the next time!

Mic sounds great. Can't wait to hear from you Joe. I have a nuc on order. First time having bees, kinda nervous.
@TheeInjun5 жыл бұрын
Now don't be nervous. Be excited! Also, make sure you get at least two hives going so you have a reference point to compare and see if something is wrong and don't get stuck losing the only hive you had to a problem you didn't even realize you have. 'Wishing you all the best, James!

Hi Joe I am fairly new to beekeeping. I like to hang out near the hives. Every time I spent any time near one particular hive, one bee was there to chase me off. So I settled in to my seat near that hive and was about to get stung, I decided to hold my ground, had to sting her before she got me. The yard was fine after that. I do think it was one hateful bee with a hate on for me. Problem solved. ☺

Hey Joe, great video as always, Mic is unreal, camera is awesome, out of curiosity, at 18:30 when you shake the frame, why is it that the queen doesn't get tossed off with all the others?
@showmebees94315 жыл бұрын
I thought she did. I think he picked her up from within the box. She might have been walking on top of the excluder.

Not over 4 days of open mated queens and not over 7 days for II queens

Explain if you will how if the breeder queen cannot lay out the hive that you have to add brood frames to support the hive,then how is that accomplishing what you are trying to do with a breeder queen
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you can get a breeder that is to pure (inbreed) and she will lay depoyld eggs the bees will eat them and not let them hatch. When you make queens out of her and they open mate they will be super queens.

Mike sounds great. Video quality not so much. Everything was grainy and blurry.

You said VSH comes from the drone. I thought I’d read recently that temperament comes from the drone and hygienic properties come from the queen. Is this not correct?

I don't know when I ai with vsh drone the vsh level comes up in my queen.

@@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay, thank you Joe, I have had bees for about 6 years this time around, I had bees back in the early 80s & things were a lot different then. So thank you again I will be putting holes in my boxes. I have several that I just built to change my existing hives come Spring. One more question while I have you online, when & if the bees Propolis covers the screen do I need to replace the screen next year? Do you use a screen or hardware cloth? I have both! Thanks & God Bless.
