First of all I have to say I love the positive vibes you give. I went to Germany for the first time in October of 2022. I split the time between Berlin and Munich and let me just say Berlin was absolutely awesome. I’m debating going back this year and splitting the time with Hamburg.

Being a Berliner living abroad now I know the city from my heart. It makes it different when it's your home town and you go there to see family and friends and get to the touristy places just to get a quick glance. Nevertheless, it's always interesting to see how others perceive the city.

Hello Phoebe, we are glad that you had a wonderful time in Berlin. Harriet and I have been all over Germany including the east and west sides of Berlin. We have very close friends who live there. I first stayed at a hostel in Berlin when I was 18. I can remember one time going to Berlin alone. I took a tour on a hop on hop off bus, met a friend who we are still in touch with. Phoebe, this was a well-done video. You hit all the right notes with a calming musical theme. Giving us a brief history lesson that we should never forget. We think this video is a turning point in you truly turning the page to travel alone. Sending you much love from Richmond, Va.❤❤ Your dear friends Harriet, Jim and Yuki

Hello Fibi in Berlin! 😆 * Great intro to the City. I've been researching Germany, as we'll likely be taking a trip to Bavaria and Switzerland soon, so, yeah...Berlin appears to be a complicated city and I think you summed it up well. * Great info as always on how to get around. We so wish the US had public transportation like Europe and Australia. Sounds like getting a reserved seat is a really good idea. (As is the day ticket--"Dark Riding" as it's called will get you in a bit of trouble and co$t a lot, I'm told). * A hotel with a great breakfast is essential, imo. Reduces stress knowing you can get a good breakfast to start the day. * I'm a WWII history buff (my Grandfather served in Europe and I was always fascinated by his stories), so I can't tell you how incredible your video and narration are. They really struck home and reminded me of my Grandfather's tales, as he was in Berlin during the end. Fantastic job giving the history of this difficult time. You did as the Germans seem to do--address this very dark time directly and acknowledge the horror so that it can never occur again. The Memorial in Berlin looked powerful and we know it was--we can hear it in your voice. (The image of the flowers really got me for some reason--it was beautiful). Your other shots are powerful and your narration was done with elegance and grace. It's very very hard and you did it so well. You took us on this journey and made it feel like we were with you and ensured the the history and the Memorial were the focus of attention (unlike some other videos I've seen where the attention is always focused on the presenter). The music was perfect as well. Well done. Seriously. * If ever you are in other parts of Germany, you'll see Stolperstien--stepping stones--which are small brass cubes placed in the ground next to homes and other locations indicating the last known place of Jews who were murdered by the Nazis. Just as powerful, I would imagine. * Excellent advice on joining a walking tour to learn about about where you are visiting. * I think on any journey, a "break day" is essential. We used to tell our guests at Disney that they should set aside an hour or two during the day to take a break. And, for longer stays, take a day off. Some of the best days for us on our recent journey in NZ and Australia were our break days--just relax and exist in the moment and in the city. (I miss sitting by the Brisbane River so much). When I saw your pics on IG, I guessed that's what you were doing--taking a break with a great coffee! (Isn't it cool that you can just "stumble" upon great places like that sometimes!) * The market looked great. We were worried the foods you were showing were gonna catch up with you--glad you managed to find something that worked for you (wasn't sure you'd be able to in Germany, knowing how heavy and meat-centered German food can be!). * Always blend berry and chocolate...the "dream" is right, according to Erin. * Happy to hear you were at ease in Germany. I'm a bit nervous visiting, since they speak a different language (I know they speak English, but German is the main language, which is why I've started to learn it. Shoulda done this back when I was in school--so much harder now!). Was the language any kind of barrier to your visit? Enough signage in English to help out? Just curious. * Back to cool music and quick shots of the city, including the Berlin Wall. * Spoiler alert--the photo made IG and looked good. * Thanks for the advice on a great way to see a city--bus tours (or, in the case of Christchurch, the tram like you suggested). Perfect. * Great quick and beautiful shots of the city--glad the weather improved over what you had so far in Europe. * Location for a hotel is critical. Awesome to do a hostel; gotta admit I've never done one (we're a bit old, I expect 🤣). Although...a brewery and a museum to the Hoff! 🤔 Not to mention that great night you obviously had (sounds like you lost a bit of your voice to the fun! Hahaha!) Also, you found your smile and shine there. * We agree--find ways to experience your journey with new people. One of my favorite moments on our recent trip was spending 2 hours with a local Kiwi in Welly, just drinking mulled wines and sharing stories. That's a unique moment worth remembering...like you partying with complete strangers who become your friends. How cool is that?!? * They say "you can't go back." Rubbish. Of course you can--it's just gonna be a new and sometimes better experience. * You can only expand your comfort zone by getting out of it. * Hopefully, you've been able to get some rest on this whirlwind tour of Europe. We are so looking forward to where we're going with you next week! * Phoebe, this was a wonderfully constructed video. Excellent telling of your visit--serious morning exploring history, take a break for coffee and lunch, and then transition into bus tour before finishing with the partying with new friends at night. Your music reflected each moment (that's gotta be hard to find the right music each week!), and you shared with us your feelings during each of those phases of what had to have been a memorable day. Really well done! Rob&Erin PS: You asked in our prior review if we were still traveling. Sorry to say, we're back home from your wonderful (and much cooler!) country. Missing the Koalas, the River, and Southbank so much. We're just prepping for our first hurricane of the season in (edit-it stayed away from us, but was bad far north of us 😞) and working toward our next getaway (Fla Keys--but only once the weather cools off!). Keep providing great info on Germany and Europe...that's gonna be our next "big" trip!

Hi Phoebe, sorry for being late in watching this video, I was stuck in London because of an Air Traffic Control failure which made my flight being cancelled (I guess travel isn’t with me this year). However, I made the most of it and caught the ABBA concert at the time I was supposed to fly 😂 and KLM paid for dinner, hotel and breakfast, could’ve been worse. Berlin is a great city! I went there a few years for Lollapalooza festival, highly recommended! Public transport in Berlin is indeed very easy to use, however, nothing beats the TfL system in London. The memorials in Berlin are so impressive. It really is though to process what happened there. Caribbean food is always a good idea. I feel like summer when I eat it, it’s delicious, can’t wait to be in the Caribbean again. Thanks for sharing your way through Europe, it’s good to see so much recognition of all places I’ve been to. Have a good weekend 🤙

Funny you mentioned feeling completely relaxed in Berlin but not Paris. I've been to both many times, most recently the end of the year. Paris for a week just before Christmas (where we got sick… yeah, THAT), then my wife's sister in a cow town near Munich for a week over Christmas, and then Berlin for a week including New Year's Eve (which is absolutely INSANE). My wife has a niece who lives in Berlin, plus her much younger cousins and their four kids were there until very recently. So while I certainly know Berlin well, and it is more visiting family than being a tourist, I always tend to be a little on edge. Not that I'm afraid of crime or anything, or even getting lost, and yeah, I speak German enough to get around (and just about everyone in Berlin speaks English - I think literally more signs are in English than German), but I just always feel a little “off” for some reason. In Paris, though, I don’t. Like you said about you in Berlin, I feel completely relaxed in Paris. Perhaps it is because my French is a lot better than my German, but both are rusty. Berlin has a lot, but it is not a particularly beautiful city in my opinion. Paris, on the other hand, is probably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. As for your digestive issues, you're presumably lactose intolerant since you made a point of saying “dairy free” gelato (if you're ever in LA or NY or someplace else with an Eataly, try their non-dairy gelato because it is amazing). Another common one is gluten sensitivity or intolerance, which is different from true celiac disease (which is an actual allergy). But a lesser known issue is onion and garlic sensitivity (ask how I know). Supposedly, about 10% of the population has it to some degree, some with almost undetectable symptoms and others with severe reactions. Many follow a “FODMAP” diet which restricts certain types of foods, while others can get by just eliminating the garlic/onion family (which includes garlic, onions, green onions, chives, leeks, shallots, etc.). If you have seemingly random issues, keep a diary of what you eat and check for any commonalities of ingredients. I came across your videos randomly and have watched a few now. Love the videos and your seeming humanity and personality coming through, rather than trying to show some fake version of what a KZbinr “should” be.
