Wow! Gotta say I respect that you called out the price and don't recommend for a hobbyist. A lot of review videos bend over backwards to justify the price and say everyone needs said product. Thanks for keeping it real.

Great video. Found you through your armory tray video while researching some CNC tips. I just took a cruise through Weavers website. I did not know such tools even existed. I live in the heartland of America where we raise the cowhide. You have developed some amazing skills my friend. Thank You for sharing.

Price is THE factor for me. I’m likely to buy a machine this year but will probably go with another manufacturer because of the price of this one.

It's super high for what you get. It took small for the price. For that price I need to be twice as wide so I can fit bigger pieces in.

Much respect for actually saying this is not for a hobbyist, or in my case as I'm just starting it is a bit out of my budget 😅 but it looks so nice tho 🔥

Congratulations, you buy the very best Maschine for Leathercraft!!! Yes, a bit expensive but highest quality & looks good too! & yes again really bad that gives only one blade but a good Black Smith can make one easy & cheap too! Love the clicker press too only want more tools for that from weaver but it’s not so difficult to make same or gives a lot company’s there make some really well & every figure you want! A big OH YHEA for this AWESOME tools!

Great video Ryan. As a hobbyist I wish I could just get one thick hide and do everything from it, so I'm with you on the size. If you're making bags, satchels and the like, these hand splitters just aren't big enough. The other issue I have is the tyranny of distance. I'm in Australia and the freight to get one here would probably be the same as the machine and there are no local alternatives.

The problem of wider blades is the force required to feed in.. so it’s already big. There are full hide splitters, but leave that for a pro.

For those doing a dozen a month but not a dozen weekly, what splitter tool would you recommend?
@C.Dungey Жыл бұрын
If you're looking to own a splitting machine, definitely check the used market. Also, look into Campbell Randall, they offer a great selection of machines and tools for leather work. That said unfortunately, owning a splitting machine is kind of all or nothing situation due to the price. If you don't have the volume of work to support the cost of buying one, the best option is likely to find someone who does. I believe Rocky Mountain Leather Supply offers the service, you could probably have Weaver do it, or find someone local to you. Either way, it's always good to try and plan ahead and design your product utilizing the leather at the stock weight it comes in at.

@bbrachman Жыл бұрын
I did not quite understand the thickness splitting your mentioned. You can or cannot split 5oz down to 4oz? I was under the impression that you had to split down in small increments. Not going from 8oz to 4oz. (That may be another machine, not Weaver's)
@LittleKingGoods Жыл бұрын
You can split in increments of 2 ounces. It will not do less than that.
@bbrachman Жыл бұрын
@@LittleKingGoods That is kind of what I heard. I don't do enough work to justify a very expensive splitter. I wish there was a less expensive one. I tried to modify a strap splitter to do bigger pieces. No dice.

A little bit high. I bought my brand new mustang in 1966 for 2800 dollars. Now a simple machine is 3600. Wow.
@cristiansantillan6861 Жыл бұрын
That’s why I like to shop at Rocky Mountain leather that gives free splitting on most purchases. Then if you need an additional split they charge like $3. But I would love to get a large automatic splitter so I could buy cheaper hides and then split them as I need. But these small splitters are very limited. Especially since on this one you can only split them 1 oz at a time. If it were about $200-270 I would consider purchasing.
@ethanresteiner6770 Жыл бұрын

I think he meant it couldn't skive a very wide piece well, like a panel for a wallet. I don't know personally, but I've only seen people use it to skive maybe 1" at a time, and doing multiple passes maybe just isn't as clean

I'm getting into leatherworking, and as a hobbiest maker I'm so stupid I look at this like "oh I can save money by splitting down a $300 hide with my $3500 machine!". It really looks like a work of art and a fine machine. I just don't think it's something designed to save us money. It's just designed to be an awesome splitter, and I want one haha.

Yup! The German made adlers are quite the pretty penny. This one’s around $3500 USD.
@greenpointstock6345 Жыл бұрын
@@LittleKingGoods Good news: The 669 ECO you have is $3055 USD if you buy from the US (+ about 800 shipping CAD iirc). The Canadian dealer (RIP) had very high prices. And also, I understand that a bunch of Adlers are now made in the Czech Republic (at a plant of a company Adler acquired and upgraded), I believe including the 669. I think the very high end Adlers are the ones made in Germany right now. This does not affect the quality, as you know, but just a note.

Cool video once again. If the price mentioned below is accurate and this machine helps you to make an extra $300 each month for a year… its paid for itself. If it’s doing things you just can’t do or saves a lot of your time doing things you can kind-of do it deserves strong consideration. It’s basically your determination about ROI - investment relating to time, money, etc.
