Thanks ever so much for making this video, it's perfect for me in the second year of my teaching career. The work from Anna Epworth has been a revelation in part because it makes me value what I am instinctively doing and also because it provides clear down-to-earth examples of how to do things well. Having said that, I'm still expected to pre-plan, thankfully being sensitive to teachable moments has opened the doors to respond to children's interests and adapt those pre-planned learning requirements to their interests. It's been such a powerful influence on me that it makes me feel that at last there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Hi, we have been considering planning in the moment at our setting and I am sitting on the fence with it. From what I have seen, practitioners have to be very skilled and be knowledgeable on the eyfs to carry it out. Some practitioners are very creative and passionate and would have no problems doing this, other practitioners are lazy and would probably just do the minimal without much interaction. Do you need extra staff to observe the practitioners? My thoughts are that if you have a ratio of 1;8 children then how does 2 practitioners with 16 children have the time to observe and interact with all those children. How do you follow their development? Following development is important as that is how we identify communication problems, hearing problems, autism and I find pre-planned activities identifies this. It all sounds great but is it practical?

Hi there! All very valid questions. It has to work for your setting! I would say 'lazy' staff isn't a reason to not do in the moment planning... they need to improve! But that aside, there is a lot to unpack here which I can't really do in a comment - if you'd like to book a call with me we can discuss a bit more 🙂 You can book a call with me at littlelearners.setmore.com

@@LittleLearnersVideos Yes I will definitely book a call, it's great to be able to discuss face to face. I've been reading lots of information but none of it answers my question. I'm particularly interested in planning in the moment for babies under 2 and if we should be following a different panning for this age group. Thank you and speak soon

Can this be done alongside having put out activities say doing this every Tuesday and Thursday but the rest of the week the teacher puts things out but maybe over time the ammount of time doing this increases also do you still do things like phonics as teacher lead learning or is everything learnt this way. Sorry if you have answered this later kn the video i havent watched it all yet.

Hi thanks for sharing in the moment planning, it has been very useful. I will be sharing your video with my colleagues, and start doing in the moment planning, just one question? Do we not need to plan weekly in advance anymore .

Hi! You can certainly do this however you like. You can have your long-term plan and maybe medium but no short-term, or adjust it to however you see fit for your setting :)
