Chris3836 Buy this lathe for start. I use this lathe 2 years already. It is good for hobby. I reviewed many types of lathes. It is compact and accurate after alignment. It is clone of Chinese SC-2 which is clone of Swiss lathe. Of course this is China-made product. But it has metal gears instead of plastic gears in lathe, which is in price list of Harbor Freight Tool.

yasmaxi Great! That's all I need it for. Just regular hobby use. Are you still using the lathe and can this lathe really make threads and can it turn hard materials? I'm sorry for my stupid newb questions but this will be my first lathe I buy. Thank you for your time.

Chris3836 Your question is not stupid. You can use this lathe for making thread. Documentation contains the table off gear set for desired thread to cut by turning tool bit. But for small diameter you can use tap and/or die. I've made several custom made bolts which is hard to find in store.
