If using oil and hobey in the same recepie , use your measuring cup for oil first and than put honey in the same cup, it will slid out effortlessly without leaving any 🍯left on walls.

Re: pancakebatter If you were to first measure out the oiive oil in the cup that you measure out the honey in, you will find that the honey then comes out in one go, rather than having to spoon it out. Oil is not a food, it is a lubricant, but if you are going to use it anyway, might as well be smart and help yourself 🙂

A Brownie squares pan works very well too then you don’t have to cut them and they are already individualized just turn them over and they all pop out similar to muffins but they are pancakes. 🥰❤️🇨🇦

Also make sure you have the proper power outlet. The large freeze dryers require a dedicated 20amp outlet - and i would recommend, especially if you're capable, to go ahead and run a dedicated line *anyway* even if you are only getting a small or a medium sized freeze dryer.

My sister put her freeze dryer on the tool bench which was nailed to the garage studs and they found out that allowed the vibration to reverberate in the rooms above (bedroom) and behind (family room) the garage. It was much quieter once it was placed on a heavy duty free standing table. We were both surprised on the amount of heat it produced. We had originally placed it in our large pantry but it made the room warmer than we wanted to keep the pantry.

Hello my wife recently found your channel and are loving your content. She is also a cook and really enjoys your preparation rituals while getting all of the other tasks done while also tending to your family. However while watching this episode, was alittle concerned while you were showing your Bee hives were still alive. What my concern was that you tapped on your hives. While the bees are very good about keeping warm during the winter months and cold temps, the action of tapping on them disturbs them greatly while in the cluster. It therefore, taking approximately 3 days for them to resettle and into the previous cluster and regulate the tempature inside the hive. This could effect the queens ability to continue brood rearing, resulting in chilled brood and the future of the hive. I am very glad that you have bees and take great care of them. Good Luck.

All sugars have what is called sweetening power or Brix. Honey is about 1.5x sweeter than regular sugar which is why you need less ☺️ a brix refractometer could be really handy for your jam and jelly canning.

I seen a recipe for cough drops that instructed makers to spread a 1" layer of powdered sugar onto a parchment lined cookie sheet, level it with a frosting spreader or knife. Using the back of a rounded teaspoon measure, create indentations to pour your cough drop mixture into. Either way seems fun!

My mom used to make me milk drink against coughing, even tho dairy is not recommended but it did help a lot at night. Hot milk with teaspoon of honey and butter. Also raspberry jam (preferably raw packed) helps to sweat and reduce fever. My grandma used to smash fresh raspberries with sugar and this was my favorite jam to eat even tho it was very limited and saved for sick days.

I always get sinus issues in the winter. we live in bc and our primary heat source is wood - so the cold air, dry air, plus wood heat makes for a perfect environment to dry out and inflame the sinuses and airways. What works like a hot damn for me is a regular ole sinus rinse. slightly warmed salty water a couple times a day fixes me right up. and it does feel soooo good.

I make tomato sauce from my garden to freeze dry. I can pack a whole pot full of tomato sauce into a couple of quart jars. It really depends on what you freeze dry, some items like banana bread takes up a lot of room but anything liquid will shrink a lot so it won’t take up room at all.... You also need to remember you need a place to put a bucket to catch the water when you defrost the freeze dryer...

I'm in Alberta, along HWY 16...I wrap my beehives with strips of alpaca duvet batting(I just cut up some of my duvets that didn't sell). Then typar to stop the wind...then put a box on top(not wrapped) the old "camp style" way...if you need an explanation of that I can explain better.. I've had good luck with that...and this year I'm testing one of Dr Leo's insulated layens hives(stuffed with alpaca batting for insulation). I'll let you know how that goes...it's much easier to manage that layens hive.

Hi, Chelsea. You may know this, BUT. Watching you measure out 12 teaspoons of anything is painful and time consuming for you. Three teaspoons = 1 Tablespoon. 4 Tablespoons =1/4 cup. So, 12 teaspoons = 4 Tablespoons = 1/4 cup. Just do the math and go to the cups! Thanks for the fun, as always. Oh, I am also sure you know that dogs and cats cannot digest cow's milk well--too much and they get tummy problems that you may not even know about. Much like lactose-intolerance. They love it tho, and they don't know to tell you to keep the quantities very small! That list of what is not good to feed to cats and dogs is very interesting! Happy Holidays!

I have often wondered about this as my cats drink fresh unpasteurized milk and don’t have any obvious issues (runs, constipation etc). I wonder if those studies are based on store bought milk. I respond badly to store-bought milk, too.
@leahwithheld783

No, store-bought, pasteurized, homogenized, etc. doesn’t matter. It's the lactose, or milk sugar, that they can't digest once weaned.

Hi Chelsea. I’m new to your channel and have been watching a lot of your videos. You have a great system on your homestead. If it’s not too personal, I’d like to ask about your children. Are all of them your biological kids? How many do you have at home? You all really work well together. Your gardens have been beautiful! Thanks

Thank you so much - I don't answer questions about my kids personal stories. It's something I learned through messing that up with my older kids - It's not my story to tell. I have 7 kids left at home now and they are amazing helpers - I'm grateful for them all. 😊

Hi Chelsea, thanks for another great video. Did you mention where you got that bulk order of all-purpose flour from? The one made from local BC wheat? I remember you mentioning a few episodes back that you would tell us who/where you got it from after you received the order and I've been excitedly waiting, but I did not hear it in this video. I recently renoed our basement cold room and am storing lots of my own garden produce this winter, and we are buying a lot more bulk since we finally have the space to store it now. I'd love to know where I could buy bulk, BC-grown, all-purpose flour myself. Many thanks if you are able to answer this question. Much love from a zone 4 gardener in Prince George, BC. 💚

The pigs look really fluffy and healthy, you must be eating really good pork out of them.
