Once again, thank you for these great, informative videos. I appreciate your calm, gentle voice and the way you explain each technique in detail. And you make them easy to watch without the addition of loud, jarring music or non-essential dialogue to distract from the experience.

Ann, this was perfect for me. For a while now I've been drawing simple celtic designs on paper and transferring them onto bowl rims, they dont always fit, but im working on it, I just hadn't thought about the paper pattern the way you, and i did in school, or doing it using foam sheets or lino. My drawings are not to your beautiful skill but your ideas are always inspiring for me to try. Im using the time between terms of adult ed classes to draw some patterns to get in front of myself for decorating what i throw next. Paper, foam amd lino, here i come haha. Thankyou. ❤😊

Hey Denise. The good thing about these projects are that there is no drawing involved. You just need to be able to cut paper then trace. The only drawing I did was just straight lines and dots to accentuate and connect the various shapes. Give them a go! And thanks as always for watching and supporting our videos.

I love the bowls you made this time. Actually, I love all of the bowls you’ve made. I have never worked with porcelain, but I hear it’s like working with lightly sticky chewing gum. All of the work you do is so beautiful and so creative. Thank you for all of those wonderful ideas.

Hi Kathy, haha. I never heard that chewing gum thing comparing it to porcelain. That is funny. I think it is just like any other clay. You pick the one that best fits your style and then you just need to learn how to work with it. All clays have their own personalities and way they prefer that you handle them. Thanks for watching our videos. We really appreciate it.

Hello Ann, I'm following your work with interest and wish to see more. Is it possible to create a design or painting on a ceramic piece that has undergone a glazing process? In other words, can a design or painting be applied to a ceramic product that has been coated with glaze? Do you have any works like this, and thank you.
@annruel1982
@annruel1982 Жыл бұрын
Hi Akif. Thank you so much for watching. As far as your question goes, that is a tricky one. If you werent the person who make the original piece with glaze on it, then I would not try and put glaze over a piece that is already high fired. the only time I might try doing something like that is if I made the piece of pottery and perhaps there is a place on the piece that i forgot to put glaze on. Then I might go back and glaze it and refire it. There are special techniques where people do a third firing like to apply low fired lustre accents etc, but typically I would not try and refire a piece that has already been high fired to vitrification. Happy potting to you.

Thank you Ann for your informative videos. My problem lately is that any design I have made gets totally covered by the glaze and gets lost after firing. I tried painting oxides, underglazes & glaze inside the design and then wipe out, and still whether it’s a stamp, a leaf, etc. after glazing, pouf, the design has disappeared ! Help! And thank you wholeheartedly 🌸
@annruel1982
@annruel1982 Жыл бұрын
Hi Bokie. I hear you. What you need is a glaze that breaks over the texture so that when it is fired, it is much lighter over the highlighted areas and then darker where it pools in the crevices. My favorites and the ones I used on these pieces are the Amaco Celedon glazes which all break over the textures. Give them a try or look for recipes to make yourself that break over the texture....then test, test, test. Good luck!

Hi Ann: I made a linoleum cut from my madela but I do not know what to use to cut off the excess linoleum. What did you use. I started with an xacto knive but that is not enough to be exact. Please provide me (and possibly mention such a tool in future videos) so I know what I can use to cut the remaining linoleum (which is about one half inch ) beyond my circle pattern. Thank you for this information!! Also, thank you for all your wonderful videos and templates!! I watch your videos a good part of the week. Please keep making them! They give me great ideas to pursue!!

I just used the linoleum cutter that came with the linoleum kit, then an exacto (with a VERY sharp, new blade), and scissors to cut the larger chunks away. Goode luck!

I've always had a desire to create my own mandalas for pottery, and this vid has truly inspired me to do so. Thank you! I'm wondering why you are very purposeful while carefully rolling the pin from the middle, is that to prevent the template from moving? Thanks again for your instructional vids and helping to inspire many, especially me as a hand builder only.
