I'm so grateful for this video! My daughter is almost 15 months old. At 11 months old she seemed like she was ready for 1 nap but the doctor said it was just a sleep regression. Also I watched another KZbinr and she said to wait until 15 months. My gut told me she was ready. I should of just started I would have not lost so much sleep!

I wanted to say thank you for the tips! We shifted that first nap quickly but did phase it as suggested . We’re doing middle of the day at 12:00 as you said and it’s worked perfectly . To everyone else here . I know this transition is scary because it feels like you’re losing that second break in the day (at least it was for me) but we are absolutely thriving on this schedule now! My daughter adapted within less than a week and is now napping a solid 2.5 hours. She could go a little over but we don’t let her go much past that. She’s sleeping better over night than ever before meaning no more pre 6am wakeups. Today she slept until 6:40 which I never thought I’d see the day! (We do early bedtime at 7..so that’s great!). She clearly was so ready for this schedule and we’re all just feeling so rested and appreciating each other so much more because we’re all getting the rest we need! Woohoo for 1 nap!

Thank you for posting this video. Very clear and organized material! My little one is 13.5 months and consistently refused his second nap and was waking at 5 am so we have tried to transition him but its been rough. After watching your video, im thinking we transitioned his wake windows too soon. We were doing 6 hours and he has still been getring up around 5-6 somedays. Thinking we should try your tips and tricks to see if we can eventually get him back on a 7-7 schedule

The timing of this video is insane! My son will be 1 next week and his second nap has been affecting bed time for just about 2 weeks. And today he stayed up until 12ish, with some outside time and a dance party! Thanks for the tips. Now I just gotta make sure this schedule sticks before I go back to work next week. Grandma watches him and I have a feeling she is going to cling to his 2 nap schedule.

Gosh, this is exactly what my son needed back then, I wish I had known! He would take a great morning nap, then resist his afternoon nap. So I tried moving to one nap at noon. And he would sleep 1 hour and wake up cranky and exhausted! This would have been perfect. It took him until 18 months to make the transition because I just had no clue how to do it!

Becca, your videos have been absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for clearing up so many of the mysteries surrounding sleep! My son is between 9 and 10 months old and has been sleeping really well until fairly recently. He has been showing almost all the signs mentioned in this video for about 3 weeks now. My mommy senses are telling me he might be ready, but everything I read says he’s too young. Are there exceptions to the transition age? We did try 3 days with one nap and he was fine during the day, but he was restless during the night. He even had a few nights wakings and struggled to settle by himself, which he usually does quite easily. Is this a normal part of transitioning?

Becca you’ve been so helpful through the sleep naps and awake time schedules. The sleep regressions and fight on the second nap sometimes has been a struggle since 11 months. When he turned 1 I’ve watched him and slowly added more time to his wake up. He had 5:30 am or 6 am wake ups and would fight the second nap. It got aggravating to where we had to put him down early and when your hanging out with others it’s hard. I did have some days he’d have 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 of sleep for 1 nap and occasionally we got a 45 minute or 1 hour nap if he did pass out for a second nap. Of course when he was sick he’d sleep 2 naps no problem. I have a question though I have got him now waking up 7 am he has been able to stay awake at least to 11:30 am almost 12 pm and he yesterday he passed out about 11:48 am after I got him fed and changed he then napped to 2:48 pm 3 hour success. I then did 5 hours but I do feel like he was ready closer to 7 pm. We got home from shopping and had to feed him and bathe him so we laid him down 7:35 pm and he passed out in a little bit. He did great 👍 but then he had a night wake up about 3 am and I don’t know if it’s from transition or not getting him to bed earlier or was he getting cold from getting out of his blanket. He’s almost 14 months now but I don’t want to give up on the 1 nap because he’s come so far. Any tips on why he might of had a night wake up? I try to let him go back to sleep on his own but if he cries continuously then I soothe him with a quick bottle to help him sleep which is all I’ve seen work. He’s not on a bottle anymore and I’ve only done this if he has this happen and he doesn’t fall asleep on his own. I feel like he ate enough throughout the day too. Just curious if there’s a helpful tip why he had a wake up.

My son just transitioned a week ago on his own, at 16.5 months while we went on vacation. I wanted to do it now anyway, as previously he definitely wasn't ready, and from 4 Jan when he goes back to daycare, they're only allowed 1 nap. We basically just went cold turkey, as he just refused and second nap for 2 days and I didn't have the mental capacity or patience to try and stretch the first nap 😂 so I then just moved his nap to 5-6 hours after he woke up (which is 4.30-5.00am - and I'm really hoping this will change with time).. So his nap is around 10.00/11.00.. And he goes to bed between 6/6.30pm.. But he usually only sleeps 10-ish hours at night.. Has for many months now. He seems to do better with the longer wake window in the morning, which I didn't expect, because usually he was READY to nap after 3.5 hours.. He seems to be adjusting well now that we're back home. His nap is around 1.5 hours to 2 hours 15min..

Hi, my 13 month was waking up early in the morning but he used to wake up at 8:00 and sleep at 10:00 with 2 naps with wake windows 3, 4, 5h. I moved him to one nap after watching your video and now he wake up at 8:00 and sleeps at 8:40 with one 2.5h nap. First 2-3 nights he slept overnight but now there are split nights, he wakes up for 2-3h at night and if not he is unsettled and wants someone to be near to sleep. He was sleeping alone from 4 months of his age. Please help, he is not sleeping well at night at all. Shall I move him back to 2 naps for a while?

Soooo helpful! Our little one turns 1 next Sunday and he's not really showing signs of readiness yet. But we have one big question: He'll start going to daycare at 14 months, where there will be one midday nap around noon - but the daycare usually keeps it 1-1,5 hours. What do we do? I know you said we can incorporate a short cat nap to bridge until bedtime - but is it really a great solution to do this until he's 3 years old? 😄

Thank you so much for this! Very well done! One question. Is it common for them to have a split night during this transition and be awake for an hour or more during the night? My little one is 21 months old (late I know) and was doing two naps 90% of the time till recently. With the two naps she would go to bed at 8:30-9pm and sleep till 6:30-7am. But now with one nap we have been trying to figure out the sweet spot for bedtime around 7pm. I’m assuming she’s just trying to get used to consolidating her sleep to 12 hours at night instead of only 9-10. Should I just be patient?? lol Those middle of the night awake times are rough. Lol😅

Our 13.5 month old still sleeps well during both naps and falls asleep easily at night, but is up during night a fair amount. Not sure if this is due to teething, needing less day sleep (just one nap?), or something else :/ I did the course, but they don't teach you how to get rid of props? Or how to have a sleep plan if you use a floor bed instead of a crib?

My daughter is 19mo and still naps twice a day around 10am and 2:30pm. Each nap is between 1-1.5 hrs. Her bedtime is 7pm and she usually wakes between 6am - 7am. She has skipped a few second naps, but pushes through to her 7pm bedtime relatively well. Skipping naps hasn’t been a consistent pattern for two weeks yet. Being that she’s 19mo… should we move to one nap even though your three signs haven’t shown up consistently?

Thank you for the informative video! Something I didn't quite understand is do we remove the second nap rigth from the start as we are just adding 30 mins to the awake time in the morning. That will mean that falling asleep at 10am then waking up around 11:30 to 12 pm and then we have to wait until around 6:30-7pm which will be quite a lot 😅

Hey Victorya! On day 1 you will move the nap later by 1 hour. Then you will move it later by 30 minutes each day until you are at your target "midday" nap time! If your little one wakes early from their nap, you can offer a 30-60 early bedtime to help offset any over-tiredness.

Thank you for the insightful video! The issue with my 13mo (almost 14) is that even though she can stay awake with no problems, her nap sometimes is only 50min when I put her down around noon. In this situation, I have to put her down for a quick nap in the late afternoon. She doesn’t catnap in a car or stroller fiy. Sometimes her night sleep gets affected as well. If I give her 2 naps, she cries bloody murder when putting down but she does sleep between a range of 40 to 90m. Should I still offer her 2 naps or continue with 1 nap?

Hey there!!! At 14 months old the sleep totals are 11-12 hours at night and 1 midday nap that is 2-2.5 hours! My sons is 14 1/2 months old, been waking up between 5-5:30 am for over a month now, (he’s been more of a 11 hour/night rather then 12) started shifting his schedule slowly and transitioning to one nap. But he will not wake up later, whether I do the earlier bedtime which was necessary as he’d be up from his nap around noon at first, or try a later bedtime nothing is changing that early morning wake up which means he’s doing 5.5-6 or more hours of wake time before that one nap. Do I just keep going and one day he’ll adjust, do I try sticking to a later bedtime for a while and see if he adjusts to that, I feel so lost and not finding info about wake ups that are to early and not progressing

His night sleep has been very disturbed for last 2 months, especially the 2nd half. Also, no matter what I do, I can only extend his 1st nap is maximum 2 hrs, which is usually of 1.5 hrs. Please help.

Thank you so much for this amazing video! 2 questions: 1) how do I know if it’s a sleep regression vs it’s time to transition to 1 nap? I feel some of the signs overlap (ie night wakings, taking more time to sleep etc…) 2) My son is almost 15 months old and is currently taking 2 naps; the 1st nap is from 9:30am -10:15/10:30am and the 2nd nap is 1:00pm - 2:00/2:30pm. I think it’s about time to transition him to 1 nap but my question is if I push the 1st nap half an hour then what happens to the 2nd nap? He won’t be able to stay awake from 10:30 am - 7:00 pm on the first trial day… so do you suggest I keep the 2nd nap but make it shorter? If yes, then when is the best time to take the 2nd nap and for how long should it be? Also do you believe that the more I push the 1st nap by half an hour the more I need to push the 2nd nap in order to completely erase it? Thanks a million for all your help ❤️🙏🏻

My almost 13mo old isn’t showing any of those 3 signs, but my problem is there isn’t enough time in the day to get in 2 naps of 2.5-3 hrs. She can easily do 4 hours of wake windows so the last nap gets too close to bedtime if I let her sleep enough. Should I switch to one nap or do a normal morning nap and then a cat nap?

My main issue is that my 13 mo old will take her bedtime as her second nap and get up in the middle of the night. How do i handle that? I think my daughter has been ready for some time as she fights sleep off for her second nap, and no problem with the first nap. But how do i come around the fact that after "fighting" the whole evening, i put her down for her bedtime, she takes that as the second nap and gets up in the middle of the night? Please bear in mind that she is very stubborn 😢

Hey there, Maria! We recommend making the 2-1 nap transition between 12-14 months, so he's more than ready at 16 months! Early morning wakings can be caused by a couple of different factors, so if you would copy/paste this comment and email us at support@littlezsleep.com, my team and I would love to dive deeper into this with you!

Hi ! Can you PLEASE please help me! My son is 1 in 3 weeks and he has always been such a terrible sleeper! STILL does not sleep through the night, he’s done it a handful of times since he’s been born. He usually wakes up around 6:30, but refuses his second nap, he is already wanting around 2 hours of nap time with his first nap, I think maybe he’s ready to transition to 1 nap soon, but he gets tired before midday, so I will definitely try your recommendation of shifting it half an hour every 2 days. But in the meantime he constantly wakes up in the night due to over-tiredness from refusing his second nap, will this not affect him the next morning waiting hours until nap time?

My almost 11-month-old is in this phase! I don't want to admit that, but he actually has been experiencing the second sign (fighting the second nap) for two months already. We tried waking him from the first one to preserve the second. It occasionally worked earlier and did not work at all. We also tried giving him many, many activities to wear him down. But this guy doesn't show any sign of tiredness. If he can't sleep but can stay in the crib, that is fine for me. But he screamed the second when he was put in the crib if that was not the right nap for him. So around 10.5 months, I gave up and let him start the 1-nap life...I guess this is also normal, right?T_T

@@thendralnirmal He is sleeping very well at night. Routine, light off, night night, and 12 hours until the morning. He is also a kind of late-morning baby; sometimes he naturally wakes up past 8am. So I feel like he consolidates his night sleep very well, so daytime sleep is comparatively less important. But of course, it is still important, he is so young! We are still hanging there...outdoor, playdate...do everything we can to make him tired for naps..

My 10 month old (11 month old next week) is either sleeping 2-3 hours in a nap and I have to wake her up or shes napping a normal amount the first nap and refusing the second nap. Im so confused! Does she need to go to one nap? She regularly sleeps 11 hours at night. We thought she was catching up from when she was sick and tired more often but now im just clueless. When she refuses the second nap and needs to go for like 7 hours she still does fine. Shes not a cranky baby.

My LO is 19 months old and is still on a 2 nap schedule. She wakes at 7, naps from 10-11 and 3-4 then bedtime is 8. She does fall asleep for her naps after about a half hour and bed takes about the same. No early wakes. Yesterday she skipped first nap and slept for over 2 hours in the afternoon. I so badly want her on a 1 nap schedule. Is she ready???

I had purchased your newborn sleep course and lo started sleeping 12 hours a night at 11 weeks old 😁 question though… I had transitioned her to one nap at 13 months and her sleep deteriorated until I put her back on 2 naps at 17 months. I was consistent and she just never acclimated. So I’m just dreading this nap transition and want her to be really ready. Should I want until she’s consistently skipping naps to transition her?

How did you guys go? My almost 13mo old seems ready for 1 nap. She very consistently has been a 10h at night sleeper and 12h total in the day. Even as a little bub her wake windows always seemed to be on the longer in and overall sleep was on the shorter end. Never very cranky either, bright n hitting milestones quite early. Any tips on this transition for babies with lower sleep needs?

I'm still working on that transition to 1 nap with my daughter as she keeps juggling from 1 nap to 2 nap days inconsistently. She will wakeup and her first nap will be anywhere from 2.5 hours to 4 hours after she wakes up and will be a 2.5 hour nap total. But then she sometimes has a second nap that is a 30 minute one which ends up making it a loooonnnnng night before bedtime as she generally consistently needs 4 hours before bedtime. Ugh. Baby sleep is so complicated lol. My daughter is 8 months but she's always been ahead in the sleep department.... and I follow her sleep queues and put her in her crib awake but drowsy (eye rubs/couple yawns) , but man I can't wait until she's officially regulated herself to 1 nap so I can know how the day will go lol.
@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep Жыл бұрын
Hey Courtney! I actually don't teach drowsy but awake. The reason for this is drowsiness is the first stage of sleep, so that could be causing all your inconsistencies with napping. If you are looking to make a change, I would recommend formally sleep training and sticking with a set 2 nap schedule. If you are looking for a step by step plan to improve your daughter's sleep, check out my baby course! littlezsleep.com/baby

Hi! I think my 13mo old is ready for this! He has been waking up 4-4:30am for the past week, fighting his naps and taking much shorter naps, sometimes sitting up. He has always woken up on the early side, sometimes before 6, but never around 4. Because of his early wakings he has been drowsy at breakfast and falling asleep(around 7am). I am planning to give breakfast earlier, maybe 6:30 (he already has his milk like 20 min. after waking up). Question: Because he wakes so early, do I need to tweak anything? Struggling to get him to his first nap without being so drousy. Prior to these signs he had been sleeping 10 plus hours a night, two naps, 1:15 to 1:30 min each. We did Little Z sleep training around 10 months and it has been the best thing I ever did for him! Thank you!!

She’s always been a good sleeper but now is really fighting two naps, she will also wake up early for milk. Like an hour before her wake up time. But will still fall back asleep after having her milk. Can I move her to one nap?
