tbh this isnt much different from English. I once had to play this game in class, except it was to practice using vocab for the SATs, and we all know how those SAT words never really became useful later on in life lol. Just like how the chinese words here arnt that commonly used

You can do it! It's not like you need to know all of those words. The cool thing about Chinese is that most words are just rearrangements of the same ~3000 characters, so it's pretty easy to figure out new vocabulary.

Well, English has 52 different letters (the capital letters look very different). And the letters are more comparable to the components/radicals of Chinese characters, of which there are far fewer than 3000 (around 200 or so).

bbcmotd Thats because they are abusing the number of different meanings the given word can hold. Different meanings are converted into chinese, and they often continue by giving more and more synonyms. If they run out, they try to find the alternative meaning of the same word and convert that into chinese

There are several or many similar vocabularies to describe the basic meanning and in these vocabularies , they means different details or subjects for example : Date Date ( Eng ) -> 日期 = DD/MM/YYYY = 31st March , 2023 ( Chi 1 ) Date ( Eng ) -> 约会 = booking a meet time , and having meet with each other ( Chi 2a ) Date ( Eng ) -> 日历 = a calendar which is write with 12 months informations ( Chi 3 ) Date ( Eng ) -> 日程 = the activities which is planned to start to do in a time ( Chi 4 ) Date ( Eng ) -> 约会对象 = a guy who is dating with ( Chi 2b )

Prismaticist not true, if your parents teach you the language you can become pretty much fluent at it. I was born and raised in the west but I know my mother tongue pretty much perfectly.

sounds fair. but i can tell that luke's familiarity with the language is extremely high and it would be a rare and impressive case if his parents were able to teach him to this degree. not saying that it isn't possible, however. whatever the case may be, his vocabulary is excellent for any chinese person, nonetheless for someone who only lived in china until they were 8!

It all meant the same thing. You know how there's a word that appears for e.g. "change" then they have to use as many different Chinese phrases to say it as possible :)

They're all saying synonyms with only a very small difference in meaning that's hard to differentiate in english.

Yea, although they all translate to the same word in english, they do have some differences in meaning. For example when they had to translate the word "tip", they said a variety of words that could mean tipping something over, tipping a waiter, advice, or a sharp point. Maybe they could've added definitions at the bottom but for some words like "like," it was literally just a bunch of words that meant liking something or being happy
